[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1623339] Re: The system is running in low-graphics mode (Ubuntu 16.04, ARM64 platform, AST2400 VGA chip)
The FAE of ASPEED Co. had checked this issue. They found the "modesetting" (drm) driver loaded and the xorg-server running will cause segmentation fault which is logged in Xorg.0.log. But they have no idea for this segmentation fault. They provide me a xorg.conf file and I put xorg.conf file into /etc/X11 and reboot and then I can see the X-window running properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1623339 Title: The system is running in low-graphics mode (Ubuntu 16.04, ARM64 platform, AST2400 VGA chip) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1623339/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi madbiologist, Thank you very much for your reply. I have put the ast_dp501_fw.bin into "/lib/firmware" and reboot Ubuntu but I still see "The system is running in low-graphics mode". Also still see 'Failed to load module "ast" (module does not exist, 0)' in Xorg.o.log It seems a VGA driver issue. We will request FAE of ASPEED Co. to check the VGA driver issue.

To add more to my comment above: Greg suggested doing a particular keypress combination ( cntl- AppleCommand-T) while Plymouth was loading. That put us into a CLI of sorts, and eventually the live disk desktop loaded cleanly. All the problems reported above went away. Did an install to my main internal hard drive from there. The result was an install that worked, but is still not clean. There are still distorted background colours on the toolbars. Doesn't seem to matter what app is tried, the toolbar shows up with horizontal multi- coloured stripes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041625] Re: X not starting after install [openchrome]
I'm a newbie here, and most of this is going way over my head. However I've been having trouble with Lubuntu 12.10 (PPC desktop) for the past few days, right up to today's build (Sept 5). 1) wireless network applet on the lower task bar appears to be dead. When I click on it, nothing happens. 2) If I click on the Install Lubuntu CD icon, top left hand corner, the header of a window appears. It's entitled Install:, but all I see is the header and the outline of where the dialogue box is supposed to be. 3) If I open PCManFM, the colour scheme is completely seems distorted in places particularly at the top left just under the tool bar, where the forward/back buttons are. Horizontally striped colours that make the buttons almost unreadable. 4) If I try to Quit the Installation, there is another blank dialogue box with only a red circled exclamation point at the left top and the words Quit the installation? in the centre, and the usual - + X buttons at the right. All of this with today's build running an an eMac G4 PPC running at 1.2 Ghz - 4 Gig Ram - 80 Gig hard drive. Should I be filing bug reports, or are these issues already known? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver
Daniel, no luck with smooth windows after disabling Detect Refresh Rate. In fact, they became jerky again. Also, it turns out that disabling Bailer didn't work well either. What does seem to work is disabling all Window Management options except Move Window and Resize Window. Lastly, as another bit of info: the OpenGL game Extreme Tux Racer performs well, but the screen is corrupted upon exit. Attached is a screenprint demonstrating the problem. Actually *doing* the screen print refreshed the screen. ** Attachment added: Corrupted display after exiting Tux Racer https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20/+bug/92599/+attachment/2523403/+files/Corrupted_display.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92599 Title: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/92599/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver
Since #760814 is deemed a duplicate, I've bounced overhere. Just installed 11.04 w/ Classic (i.e., GNOME 2.32). GeForce 210 and binary driver 270.41.06-0ubuntu1. Window movement was stunningly jerky. Went into CCSM and disabled Bailer. Now, window movement is acceptable, but glxgers is still horrible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92599 Title: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/92599/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 663463] Re: Blank screen on boot unless nouveau was disabled.
Nvidia apparently made some bad chips... http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/affectedmodels.html http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1013947/why-nvidia-duff-chips-shoddy-engineering Even if your Dell isn't on the Official List, it might still have the affected GPU. I solved the problem by replacing an old-but-just-purchased G86 GeForce 8400GS with a new-and-just-purchased G98 8400GS. The key is to look for an 8400GS with 512MB RAM. The 128MB cards are definitely old and the 256MB cards *might* be old. Another indicator is that only the G98 cards are PCIe v2 x16, whereas the older ones are v1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_PureVideo#Table_of_PureVideo_.28HD.29_GPUs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663463 Title: Blank screen on boot unless nouveau was disabled. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638137] Re: XDM elides whitespace in passwords
Kamus wrote: Have you tried to reproduce this issue using latest release included in Ubuntu Maverick? ** Package changed: ubuntu = xdm (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xdm (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete No (but I will, and will report back). Instead, I installed Xubuntu (using the XFCE desktop GDM). But that has it's own set of (known) problems wrt to remote graphical login using VNC, namely that GDM doesn't fully support XDMCP, so no desktop is created after trying to login remotely (I had the same problem when I upgraded from Debian Etch to Lenny). I'll install Maverick in a VM to check, but I'm installing a new hard drive in the machine that contains all my VMs and since I'm a belt suspenders kind of guy, I use the -cc option to mkfs, so creating 500 MB partitions takes almost 40 hours each. I expect that it'll be about a week before I can report back. ron -- Ron Widell| Disclaimer, dat-claimer... r_wid...@bwig.net | if she's mine, I'll claim 'er. -- XDM elides whitespace in passwords https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638137 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdm in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638168] [NEW] Random freeze/lockup of system console
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The console will randomly freeze/ lockup. I initially thought this was a screensaver issue as I first noticed it when stepping away from the machine for a while and coming back to a frozen screensaver display. The screensaver was set to random and a search for probable causes led me to believe that using a non-openGL screensaver might stop the problem. However, I've also had situations where the keyboard and mouse (Synaptic touchpad) will stop responding while actively using the machine. The keyboard becomes completely unresponsive. I can move the cursor with the mouse, but the machine will not respond to mouse clicks, nor will the cursor change as expected when moving across a document with embedded hyperlinks. The only way to recover is to power down and reboot, or to remote login via ssh and issue a sudo shutdown -r now command. I've tried to do some investigative work via the ssh remote login console, but the keyboard stops responding after just a few minutes and I have to sever the connection, wait a few minutes, then open a new connection to get another couple minutes of normal keyboard response. This problem started immediately after upgrading to 9.10 from 9.04 (which was rock solid), but I noticed that it also seems to be prevalent in 10.04 (per the Release Notes), so I though that this additional data point may be useful. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 638180] [NEW] xserver-xorg generates blank screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS x86 on a Gateway MX6027 (see Bug #638168 for a reasonably complete synopsis of the hardware involved). I've tried both the Alternate Installer and the LiveCD. Neither one present any graphical output after the boot splash screen. When using the Alternate Installer I'm able to get into a text-only console by using Ctl-Alt-F1. That doesn't work with the LiveCD. It just sits there until I powerdown. It won't respond to the keyboard at all (Ctl-Alt-BS and Ctl-Alt-Del are ignored). I've tried to do a dpkg-reconfigure from the text console when using the Alternate Installer CD, but I get a command prompt back and nothing else. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xserver-xorg generates blank screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638180 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614176] Re: [855gm] 2.6.35-14: Invisible Cursor
I have a similar problem running Ubuntu Meerkat on an old Dell Latitude D500 that uses Intel GMA 855 graphics hardware. This problem began for me after doing an update a few days ago, and persists after this morning's kernel update. Everything works normally as before, except that I cannot draw a mouse cursor to save my life if the system boots normally. I tried playing with xorg.conf, using vesa driver instead of the default, explicitly turning on the SWCursor, etc. The only thing I found that restores the cursor is choosing Recovery in the Grub menu and then coming up using failsafeX. However, if I copy xorg.conf.failsafe over to xorg.conf and then come up normally - that still does not work. Strangely when booting normally, even splash works! Just ... no cursor. I also tried the sudo lshw -c display trick suggested in bug #601172, but that hung my system like a horse. -- [855gm] 2.6.35-14: Invisible Cursor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/614176 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 509439] [NEW] Xorg Multi Display - App Crashes due to improper mouse handling
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have discovered a serious bug with X.org and handling of Multiple Displays (verified on 2 and 3 screens/displays.) No Xinerama, No TwinView; these are separated X Displays (:0.0, :0.1, :0.2, etc..) The issue seems to mostly affect applications with a common process/presence shared across multiple Displays. Steps to Reproduce a Full App-Crash (with Nautilus, or Thunar): 1 - Ensure nautilus is NOT already running by command: ps -afx | grep nautilus 2 - Launch Nautilus from Primary Display ( :0.0 ) 2a - Ensure Pathbar Style is in use: Click View - Location Selector - CHECK: Pathbar Style 3 - Navigate into sub-folders, until 3 or more Folders are shown in the Pathbar, as clickable buttons. 3a - You should be able to click among any of these folders/buttons without issue 4 - Launch Nautilus in Second (or third Display, :0.1 / :0.2) 4a - Pathbar Sytle should automatically be in use. 5 - Navigate into sub-folders, until 3 or more Folders are shown in the Pathbar 6 - You should be able to select one Location from the Pathbar, without moving your mouse out of the window, click on a different Pathbar location. Your mouse will also not cause auto-highlight, or trigger a change when clicking a selection. 6a - IMPORTANT: If you continue pressing these seeming in-active Pathbar folder buttons, you will eventually crash your Nautilus/Thunar app!! It will crash from both displays. You are also able to reproduce this bug in-reverse, by initially launching nautilus/thunar from an xterm in the :0.1 display. This will bind Nautilus/Thunar main process to Display: :0.1, and cause the un- desired behaviour and app-crash to manifest even in the Primary display :0.0. Simply launching nautilus Panel on :0.1 will not duplicate as panel's main/parent process is still in Display :0.0 Other related oddities and symptoms. * Gnome-Terminal: in secondary display, if you click a top-menu-bar item, then without mouse exiting menu-bar area, mouse-over other menu items, the context will NOT follow your mouse (as it does on the Primary Display.) If you simply move the mouse out of the window-area, then back in, menu-bar tracking resumes normal behaviour. * Gnome-Panel: in secondary display, if you click Applications, Places, or System at top of screen, then without moving mouse from TOP-panel, move mouse-over other the other options (Applications, Places, or System), the mouse-over focus will not change menu items. If you move mouse out of top-panel, mouse will resume normal behaviour. * Also in Gnome-Panel, you can go into Properties from Second display, change between General/Background tabs. Withouse moving moues out of this window, clicking on Help or Close buttons will have NO effect. * XFCE4 window manager and applications also behave the exact same! Since this issue affects multiple applications, window managers, and the crash-reports list X Libraries first; I have assigned the report to xserver-xorg;. I have discovered this in a system upgraded from 8.04 (hardy) to 9.10 (karmic); and also verified on a separate computer with a fresh install of 9.10 (karmic). Both systems have all current updates installed.
