[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 520546] Re: [SRU]Alt+KEY incorrectly behaves like Ctrl+Alt+KEY, and/or unwanted VT switch from Alt+Left/Right
It seems I have to insist again: patch https://launchpadlibrarian.net/405256420/patch should definitely really really be applied. As explained in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- shell/+bug/1508146/comments/73 that script should really *not* pass --force to setupcon. There is no reason for that except that it was copy/pasted from the Debian installer, where it is needed due to the use of bterm. On Ubuntu it should really not be used. Can somebody at last apply that patch that has been waiting for 2 years? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520546 Title: [SRU]Alt+KEY incorrectly behaves like Ctrl+Alt+KEY, and/or unwanted VT switch from Alt+Left/Right To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/console-setup/+bug/520546/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

+ 10 for the implementation of this UNICODE-FEATURE. At the moment I'm coding on a Keyboard-Firmware (ErgoDox). Problem is that I can send UNICODE-Chars easy and nice with the GNOME-Method : CTRL+Shift+digits, but there is no way to send them to QT-Based Programms. So keep calm and implement the Shortcut which is still implemented in Gnome (and please, please, please don't choose another one like CTRL+ META or such different Stuff...) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 221112]
I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while not breaking the 99% usual usage. Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess mostly only people who would want the extra 5th level did realize that it would steal the right control key. If a discussion happened on are people fine with making the right control key the 5th level modifier by *default*, the result would be quite different, I believe. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221112 Title: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libgnomekbd/+bug/221112/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while not breaking the 99% usual usage. Hello, Until a solution is to be found, could 518c769d be reverted for now? Breaking the very standard behavior of right control in all applications (e.g. xterminals!!) is really not acceptable, compared to the few issues that the behavior has without it. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159615] Re: Screen corruption
I had the latest supported version of xserver-xorg-video-intel for Precise which is 2:2.17. Tried ppa:xorg-swat first which installed 2:2.19. That didn't help. Then tried xorg-edgers which installed 2:2.21.5+ That seems to have worked. Has not seen the issue again till now. Thanks for your help. Wondering whether I should stay on with xorg-edgers or should purge it some time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 832624] Re: cursor jumping to screen border
It's not just Xfce, it's the same behaviour in Gnome (Classic/Fallback, gfx chip of the embedded computer used is too weak for Unity) and Openbox with any program (no matter whether desktop, Firefox, Chromium, xev…). However, I just noticed that the bug *only* occurs if the evdev axes swap is enabled (via xinput property 253 or xorg.conf-option SwapAxes). Without swapping, the behaviour is the same as in Arch (with swapping). Looks like a bug in that function? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/832624 Title: cursor jumping to screen border To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-foundations/+bug/832624/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 832624] Re: cursor jumping to screen border
The evdev swap axes property has been deprecated since Natty. I'd suggest putting that warning into the Xorg log (if the option is detected) and the manpage, I'm pretty sure that other users will have similar problems. There is a much more robust solution in the form of the Input Transformation Matrix property. I'm already using the ITF for dual screen scaling, so I'm pretty sure that won't be a problem – will try tomorrow. Yes I do, see my comments: I believe Xorg just gets started too early, before the console is setup, and that's gdm/xdm/kdm's responsibility. -- [karmic] Xorg 100% CPU utilization -- only after first login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439138 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Bryce: please also add a dependency on the console configuration scripts, as while waiting for acpi probably helps to wait for the console configuration, it'd be better to really make sure gdm doesn't start before it.

Hi Samuel, would mind proposing a patch? I'm a bit of a novice with upstart scripting, and fairly distracted by mesa at the moment. It's precisely in scope: as I said, Xorg gets EIO because the tty gets a hung up after Xorg is started, most probably because the console initialization scripts may get started after Xorg is started.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 439138] Re: [karmic] Xorg 100% CPU utilization -- only after first login
Tom Jaeger, did you actually notice switching VT not working? Could you get an strace of that happening? Could people getting the error check /proc/`pidof X`/status? Here I have SigIgn: 10301000 The important part is the 3. If the 3 is not there it's normal that tcflush() return EIO for the console: because X starts its own session alone, it is an orphaned group. A good fix could be to just re-enable the TIOCNOTTY part from xserver/hw/xfree86/os-support/linux/lnx_init.c which got dropped for no apparent good reason, while here we have a good reason to ignore all the controlling terminal semantic.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 439138] Re: [karmic] Xorg 100% CPU utilization -- only after first login
Mmm, ok, this can only happen when the ioctl handler is hung_up_tty_ioctl, i.e. the tty got hung up after Xorg opened it, most probably because with the parallel start in upstart the console may get tinkered with after Xorg gets started. After an Xorg restart (or equivalently, login/logout), no problem since no hung-up.

SigIgn: 00301000 It seems that I can reproduce the issue again, let me know if I should run some more tests. Ok, so the issue is really not tcflush() itself only, but a tty hungup, with no other real solution than just making Xorg depend on the console setup.
