I had a mistaken impression when I wrote the original 4.12 support patch, it's the number of page table levels supported by the kernel which matters and not the number of page table levels the arch actually uses. Seems I also forgot to test on i386, oops. Attaching an updated support patch for 4.12. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1625154] [NEW] [Dell XPS 13 9343] Sceen periodically scrambles then returns to normal
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to yakkety on this machine I see frequent instances of the screen "scrambling," for lack of a better work. What I mean is that for a split second things appear at the wrong location on the screeen, as though the video has lost sync temporarily. Then it returns to normal. It happens frequently but not on a regular interval - I'd estimate anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds between occurrences in general. I'm running a 4.8 kernel from the canonical-kernel-team ppa right now, but I don't think this is a kernel problem, or at least not wholly a kernel problem, because it also happens with 4.4 kernels (though it seems less frequent with 4.4). This didn't happen at all with xenial. This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed- xenial' to 'verification-done-xenial'. If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed. Norbert: see below. Also I should add that I switched this machine back to the non-xmir stack and the LED behaves as expected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968845] Re: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 on MacBookAir
The latest precise-propsed packages are an improvement. I'm no longer seeing single clicks behaving like double-clicks after initiating S3 by closing the lid. I am however seeing the following behavior: If I depress the clickpad with one finger and tap a second finger at other various locations on the touchpad, the pointer will jump large distances. I'm only getting this after an S3 initiated by closing the lid, not 100% of the time but most of the time. I'm not normally a user of tap-to-click on this machine, but I've confirmed that I can reproduce the behavior described by Luke, whereby a single tap behaves like a double tap. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968845 Title: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 on MacBookAir To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/968845/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936552] Re: MacBookAir 4, 1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver
It's not really a separate touchpad, it's a /dev/input/mouseX device registered by the mousedev driver for the same touchpad, kind of a legacy mouse device for applications that need that sort of thing. It's there in the good and bad case, and X seems to be (correctly) ignoring it. I think you may be onto something with the keyboard remove being related. I don't know what's going on, and I don't see it on my MBA 4,1, but dmesg does show usbhid devices disappearing and reappearing about 18 seconds after boot. Actually it looks like the usbhid module is unloaded and reloaded. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968845] Re: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3
This issue was discussed on irc the other day, and I'm going to attempt to summarize the findings here. The MBA has a magnet near the camera, and as the lid is closed this magnet induces touchpad activity. The resulting stream of input events from the driver show the start of a multitouch sequence that never completes. xf86-input-synaptics is left in a bad state, waiting for the completion of the multitouch sequence. There's also a possibility that the events will result in unintended actions being performed on the destkop (I've noticed from time to time that the dash is exposed after resume when it wasn't at the time the lid was closed, which may be evidence of this). The proposed fix is for xf86-input-synaptics to listen for the input event that indicates the lid has been closed and to stop listening to internal input devices at that time. There's still a chance that events caused by the magnet will be received before the lid-close event when the lid is closed very quickly, but that seems to be unavoidable. xf86-input-synaptics may also need to reset its internal state after the lid is opened to ensure that it's not left waiting for events it's never going to receive. Chase, does this correspond to your takeaway from the discussion? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968845 Title: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/968845/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Rohit: I played back your evemu-record capture, and it looks like the driver is working fine. I'm going to add a task for xserver-xorg-input- synaptics here. What I really suspect is that you have some sort of misconfiguration of your system causing the issue. Can you run the following to attach some additional information to the bug? Please do so while the touchpad is not working, i.e. without passing proto=exps to the psmouse driver. I'm seeing a similar hang sometimes when coming out of S3 as well. This just happened a few minutes ago. The compiz stacktrace this time was identical to the one above. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 938770] Re: Desktop becomes completely unresponsive
I've been trying some different things today, and I found that if I downgrade mesa to 7.11-0ubuntu4 I've so far been unable to reproduce the issue. The problem has been elusive at times before though, so it's not definite, but I've gone back and forth between mesa versions a number of times and I've been able to consistently reproduce the issue with the newer mesa but not the older. I'm going to go ahead and add a mesa task at this point to see if we can get anywhere. ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938770 Title: Desktop becomes completely unresponsive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/938770/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 938770] Re: Desktop becomes completely unresponsive
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu ** Description changed: I'm finding that occasionally as I'm using my desktop it becomes completely unresponsive. Often this seems to be random, and these random freezes are happening several times a day. The only reliable way I've been able to reproduce it is by closing and opening the lid (which isn't triggering a suspend due to bug 933710). When in this state the mouse pointer moves but otherwise the screen is not updated at all. If I switch to a VT and back the desktop isn't even redrawn, only the mouse pointer. I've looked through the logs and can't find any crash reports when this happens. X is still running when in this state. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933710] Re: Laptops with eDP panels do not suspend when lid closed
Upon further inquiry I've found out that the ConnectorType property that gnome_rr_output_is_laptop() just isn't implemented for most of the video drivers in X, and it isn't likely to be fixed in the near future. So for precise something along the lines of the patch I've attached is going to be required. Federico Mena-Quintero commented on the upstream bug report that the patch makes sense. Is that enough to move forward with it? This really ought to be fixed for precise, or else the code in g-s-d that using this function to leave the machine running when the lid is closed ought to be removed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933710 Title: Laptops with eDP panels do not suspend when lid closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-desktop/+bug/933710/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
