[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1957181] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: When having more than one window open, e.g. Firefox and a terminal and then to swap between the two. The clicking with the mouse stops working but it still moves. For instance when I hover over text or not the cursor does not change. Sometimes I can still click or select text in the original window but the coordinates of the mouse are not where the cursor is displayed. Sometimes the keyboard dies too e.g. Alt+F2 does not work. There is a probable solution here too if you want to use your bluetooth too. I didn't try it though. In summary: blacklisting nouveau, installing nvidia driver and disabling bluetooth solved the overheat problem for me. I feel this is a workaround though, and linux shouldn't overheat in any case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768976 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 is overheating after upgrade from 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1768976/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1768976] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 is overheating after upgrade from 16.04
Ubuntu offered me a security update. It was offering it for a long time and I didn't want to take it, because I didn't wanted to mess it up. But installed all, and it messed it up with kernel 4.15: it couldn't install the 340 nvidia driver I need into the new kernel. It became an endless loop when ran the new kernel version (4.15). I read somewhere that this might be because of video driver. I started the last working linux kernel and activated nouveau. 4.15 kernel started this way, but overheated in a minute and shutted down. What I did is: started linux in command line mode and blacklisted nouveau, downloaded 340 nvidia from nvidia website and installed it manually (without DKMS, because it didn't work). Now there is no overheat. Nouveau is the one to blame imo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1795135] Re: XFCE window buttons are not clickable at the top of the screen
Not sure it's helpful to add all panel-like applications that are affected by this problem to the bugreport - unless of course you want to track which applications implemented the same workaround (which seems to be the only known workaround anyway - if you don't want to intercept X11's signals manually). Let me formulate the bug more generally: All windows with coordinates of 0x0 have issues with xorg believing the cursor leaves the window because the lower boundaries are not clamped to integers. Instead the subpixel rendering of xinput2 results in those negative coordinates I mentioned before. I'm convinced *all* applications have this problem and I've discussed about the topic with the Gtk+ developers as well. One of the upstream bugreports even contains a small reproducer that is not a panel at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1795135 Title: XFCE window buttons are not clickable at the top of the screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/plank/+bug/1795135/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1760411] Re: I don know
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Finally found what changed. I updated /etc/fstab to have /proc mounted with hidepid=2,gid=sudo for added security. This works perfectly on 16.04 but totally breaks on 17.10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753884] Re: session logout after suspend
Hey Christopher, 1) When I report the crash files with: $ ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash I get a pop saying Ubuntu has experienced an error and asks me to continue to report it. I'm going to assume that this is part of the process of reporting it and it's working correctly, and not ubuntu-bug experiencing a bug while I'm reporting it (it's a bit confusing to me). But it's not clear to me what the next steps are here (even from that documentation). 2) The crash created after the crash are: ls -la /var/crash/ total 50516 drwxrwsrwt 2 root whoopsie 4096 Mar 9 11:12 . drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Aug 1 2017 .. -rw-r- 1 root whoopsie 560003 Mar 7 13:16 _lib_systemd_systemd-udevd.0.crash -rwxrwxrwx 1 root whoopsie0 Mar 9 11:11 .lock -rw-r- 1 simon whoopsie 1585974 Mar 9 11:12 _opt_atom_atom.1000.crash -rw-r- 1 simon whoopsie 49568222 Mar 9 11:12 _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash The Mar 9 ones are the ones that appeared after I closed my lid, let the laptop suspend, and start things up again. I don't think the atom crash file is always there. 3) I'll try upgrading to 17.10 for now, and then 18.04 when it becomes the new LTS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753884 Title: session logout after suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1753884/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753884] Re: session logout after suspend
Christopher, thanks for responding so quickly! It took me a while to download the newest ISO. I've been able to narrow it down a bit more as well: the log out only happens if I have my second monitor plugged in. Sometimes (but not always) the second monitor will flash the "logged out" screen for a second or two before going dim. If I unplug the second monitor and close the lid of my computer I log in and it's still the same session. I have "Suspend even if external monitor is plugged in" toggled in Tweak Tools. 1) No, my session is not logged out if I suspend via the GUI with the lid open. 2) There are! Is it safe to upload that file? I can do so. 3) I'm fairly sure it's happened since I initially installed 16.04 4) With the live USB I don't think I can set up a user account that will get logged out? When I close the lid of my laptop without the external monitor plugged in there is no log in screen and I just see the desktop (even when I toggle that the user is not logged in automatically). With the external monitor plugged in the desktop just switches. I couldn't find a toggle for the "Suspend even if external monitor is plugged in" option. I'm happy to actually try upgrading my machine to 18.04 or 17.10, but that would lose you your test scenario if it ends up working?
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753884] [NEW] session logout after suspend
Public bug reported: This is a new bug report for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/362075 I am running Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS 64-bit + gnome, the standard installation as downloaded from the Ubuntu website, on a Lenovo ThinkPad T440s. When I close the lid of my laptop, my session gets logged out, where I would expect the lock screen simply to come up. The workaround suggested in the original bug report (which was for kubuntu 9.04) suggests to disable the lock screen on resume option, but I can't find this option on 16.04. It's also not a super desirable work-around. I want to still have to log in if I close the lid of my laptop.
