[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037015] Re: Screen corruption of slides during install on Raspberry Pi

2024-04-22 Thread Steve Langasek
This is targeted to 24.04 and marked as 'in progress' but is definitely
not landing before 24.04 GA on Thursday. What is the overall plan here?
should this go to SRU? (It can, but in that case doesn't benefit users
wrt the corruption issue in the *installer* until 24.04.1.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037604] Re: Backport packages for 22.04.4 HWE stack

2023-11-26 Thread Steve Langasek
The directx-headers part of this is easy because it's just a build-
dependency of mesa, but mesa itself is a big delta to a library that
affects all users of the graphics stack: unlike the kernel, which has
both GA and HWE versions where the user can opt out of the rolling
kernel updates on the LTS, there is only one mesa package, so the impact
of any regressions is higher.

I see that the current bug description is in line with the previous
update, LP: #2019212; and of course, with respect to hardware
enablement, this is an SRU we're going to want to take; but I think it
would be best if there were a more explicit test case than just "Install
the new mesa on various hw". Do we expect this new mesa to be tested
on all certified hardware before it's released to -updates? Is there a
feedback mechanism for us to *know* if Certification finds regressions
on some of the certified platforms? Is any effort made to check for
regressions on non-certified hardware?

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/685039/x11-how-to-invert-axis-

there still have the vertical access reversed.

'xinput set-prop "UGTABLET 11.6 inch PenDisplay Pen (0)" "Coordinate

the tablet is configured as the top display.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2014957] [NEW] XP Pen 13 tablet has swapped axes for input

2023-04-01 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

On jammy, an XP Pen 13 tablet (shown in the hardware as "UGTABLET 11.6
inch PenDisplay") is unusable because the axes for the stylus are
swapped: moving the stylus up on the screen moves the cursor to the
left, moving it down moves it right, moving the stylus to the left moves
the cursor up, moving it to the right moves the cursor down.

I am reporting this bug initially against Xorg, but the problem is
present using either Xorg or Wayland.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1993621] Please test proposed package

2023-03-03 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Yao, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xorg-server into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-
server/2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.8 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2009085] [NEW] nvidia-libopencl1-384, nvidia-opencl-icd-384 binaries need dropping on i386

2023-03-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The set of binaries from nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 on i386 has been
reduced to:

 libnvidia-compute-390 | 390.157-0ubuntu3 | lunar-proposed/restricted | i386
 libnvidia-decode-390 | 390.157-0ubuntu3 | lunar-proposed/restricted | i386

 libnvidia-gl-390 | 390.157-0ubuntu3 | lunar-proposed/restricted | i386
 libnvidia-ifr1-390| 390.157-0ubuntu3 | lunar-proposed/restricted | i386

However, the *opencl*384 transitional packages are still being
generated:

 nvidia-libopencl1-384 | 390.157-0ubuntu3 | lunar-proposed/multiverse | i386
 nvidia-opencl-icd-384 | 390.157-0ubuntu3 | lunar-proposed/multiverse | i386

And these now become uninstallable because they depend on nvidia-
headless-390 that has been dropped on i386.

This is the last piece blocking us from having updated nvidia + lrm +
kernels in lunar so I have manually deleted the binaries from the
archive to allow it to migrate. They also need to be dropped from the
source.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1992996] Re: RM: obsolete intel opencl libraries (for llvm-11, -13)

2022-10-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Unfortunately, for the last one it hasn't been removed because despite
Debian saying it's no longer used, reverse-depends appears to disagree:

Reverse-Depends
* libllvmspirvlib-11-dev(for libllvmspirvlib11)
* libopencl-clang11 (for libllvmspirvlib11)
* libopencl-clang13 (for libllvmspirvlib13)
* llvm-spirv-11 (for libllvmspirvlib11)

Packages without architectures listed are reverse-dependencies in:
amd64, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, s390x

Reverse-Build-Depends
* llvm-toolchain-13 (for llvm-spirv)
* llvm-toolchain-14 (for llvm-spirv)

so I don't see that we can remove this from Ubuntu. If I'm missing some
reason this doesn't break the named reverse-dependencies, please clarify
here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1972133] [NEW] +/- geometry offsets don't work under Wayland

2022-05-08 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1969396] Re: Can't use Right Alt as compose key with English (Dvorak, alt. intl.) layout

xev also returns Multi_key for me here, but it doesn't actually *work* as a
compose key with the above values. The lv3:ralt_alt conflicts in some
fashion and only when I remove it from the settings do I get Compose key
functionality.

So if your assertion is that the gsettings values are correct and it's a bug
in how xkeyboard-config interprets/applies those settings, then it's not a
bug in gnome-control-center. However if this is a wrong setting to be set
in gsettings, it's a gnome-control-center bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1969396] Re: Can't use Right Alt as compose key with English (Dvorak, alt. intl.) layout

2022-04-19 Thread Steve Langasek
> And AFAICT gnome-control-center sets the expected XKB options,
> so it's not a g-c-c bug. Maybe an xkeyboard-config bug.

>From my initial bug report:

Setting Alternate Characters Key to None, and moving the Compose Key
setting around between different options (and then back to Right Alt),
the behavior of the Right Alt key is still AltGr and not Compose.

So no, gnome-control-center was not setting the expected XKB options
either.

** Also affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1964674] Re: FFe: Sync libvdpau 1.5-1 (main) from Debian sid (main)

2022-03-25 Thread Steve Langasek
This looks incomplete from the perspective of an FFe. Is this actually
a complete description of the new features present in this new upstream
version? An FFe should address the full scope of new features in order
to assess the risk of taking it as a late change, not just the feature
you're interested in that you believe justifies the inclusion.

Timo, these appear not to have been removed yet in Debian, despite
Buster being out. Will you file for removals in Debian, or should we
carry these into another Ubuntu LTS?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1856414] [NEW] installing linux-modules-nvidia does not remove nvidia-dkms, and the kernel prioritizes the wrong version of the module from disk

2019-12-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Installing nvidia-driver-430 pulls in nvidia-dkms-430 as a dependency.
Installing linux-modules-nvidia-430-generic does not satisfy this
dependency in its place; so nvidia-dkms-430 can't be removed without
also removing nvidia-driver-430, and then a bunch of other packages also
want to be removed as unused:

$ sudo apt purge nvidia-dkms-430
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  dkms libatomic1:i386 libbsd0:i386 libdrm-amdgpu1:i386 libdrm-intel1:i386
  libdrm-nouveau2:i386 libdrm-radeon1:i386 libdrm2:i386 libedit2:i386
  libelf1:i386 libexpat1:i386 libffi6:i386 libgl1:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
  libglapi-mesa:i386 libglvnd0:i386 libglx-mesa0:i386 libglx0:i386
  libllvm9:i386 libnvidia-cfg1-430 libnvidia-common-430 libnvidia-compute-430
  libnvidia-compute-430:i386 libnvidia-decode-430 libnvidia-decode-430:i386
  libnvidia-encode-430 libnvidia-encode-430:i386 libnvidia-fbc1-430
  libnvidia-fbc1-430:i386 libnvidia-gl-430 libnvidia-gl-430:i386
  libnvidia-ifr1-430 libnvidia-ifr1-430:i386 libpciaccess0:i386
  libsensors5:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libx11-6:i386 libx11-xcb1:i386 libxau6:i386
  libxcb-dri2-0:i386 libxcb-dri3-0:i386 libxcb-glx0:i386 libxcb-present0:i386
  libxcb-sync1:i386 libxcb1:i386 libxdamage1:i386 libxdmcp6:i386 libxext6:i386
  libxfixes3:i386 libxnvctrl0 libxshmfence1:i386 libxxf86vm1:i386
  nvidia-compute-utils-430 nvidia-kernel-source-430 nvidia-prime
  nvidia-settings nvidia-utils-430 screen-resolution-extra
  xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-430
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  nvidia-dkms-430* nvidia-driver-430*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 1,269 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
Abort.
$

And it's not sufficient to leave both linux-modules-nvidia and nvidia-
dkms installed, because when both are present, the kernel erroneously
picks up the modules from nvidia-dkms first, and fails to load them if
SecureBoot is on and the local MOK is not enrolled.

linux-modules-nvidia-430-generic probably needs a versioned Provides: so
that it can be installed in place of nvidia-dkms-430.
