[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1287341] [NEW] Touchscreen controls both screens in dual-monitor setup
Public bug reported: My laptop has a touchscreen. It works fine in 14.04 until I plug in an external monitor. When using an external monitor, input from the touchscreen is remapped so that the touchscreen provides input to both monitors. The result is that there is no longer a 1:1 correspondence between moving your finger and the cursor. This is confusing and difficult to use. A touchscreen is a direct input device (vs an indirect one like a mouse/touchpad); input from the touchscreen should be bound to the physical display that it's attached to. To reproduce: 1) On a computer with a touchscreen, use the touchscreen to move a window around, including to the edges of the screen. Note that the window moves exactly with your finger. 2) Plug in an external monitor 3) Try the same actions as in step 1 Expected results: The touchscreen continues to operate as in step 1, allowing you to manipulate items on the display that contains the touchscreen. The touchscreen does not interact with windows, etc on the external monitor Actual results: The touchscreen is remapped across both displays. The result is that touch events no longer happen 'under the finger'. Assuming the two displays are the same size and resolution, moving your finger 1cm will cause the window or other objects to move 2cm onscreen. It becomes impossible to use the touchscreen to interact with widgets (menus, buttons, etc). This is described in couple places: http://askubuntu.com/questions/51445/how-do-i-calibrate-a-touchscreen-on-a-dual-monitor-system http://askubuntu.com/questions/71768/touchscreen-and-additional-external-monitor ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xinput 1.6.1-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-14.34-generic 3.13.5 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-14-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.13.2-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, commands, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon Mar 3 14:41:14 2014 DistUpgraded: 2014-02-12 13:40:42,704 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistributionChannelDescriptor: # This is a distribution channel descriptor # For more information see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DistributionChannelDescriptor canonical-oem-somerville-precise-amd64-20130203-1 DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: oem-audio-hda-daily-lts-quantal, 0.201308192259~precise1, 3.5.0-45-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.3.6, 3.13.0-12-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.3.6, 3.13.0-14-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 4.3.6, 3.13.0-8-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0a16] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:060a] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-12-02 (90 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 Precise - Build amd64 LIVE Binary 20130203-13:50 MachineType: Dell Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1180004] [NEW] bundled vdpau creates blue tint on youtube movies
Public bug reported: Youtube and other movies play back with a blueish tint when using the nvidia-310-updates drivers on my MacbookPro3,1 with 8600M GT. It looks like a colorspace conversion issue. This is always reproducible on my system. To reproduce: 1) Watch a video in the browser, such as this one (UDS 13.05 intro): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embeddedv=fExfA0i2yEE Expected results: Colors, especially skin tones, look normal; there is no blue cast Actual results: Colors have a bluish tint. Jono looks like an extra from the movie 'Avatar'. The problem can be eliminated by reinstalling the libvdpau1 package after the nvidia-310-updates package is installed: sudo apt-get install --reinstall libvdpau1 nvidia-310-updates provides a different implementation of livdpau that looks like it overwrites the implementation provided by libvdpau1. Seems like there is a bug in the libvdpau libraries provided by NVIDIA. This problem also affects Google hangouts. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 950194] [NEW] nvidia-settings forgets primary display setting
Public bug reported: When using an external monitor on my laptop in twinview mode, nvidia- settings routinely forgets the 'primary display' setting. My laptop's screen is 1440x900, and I want it to be the primary display. My external display is 1280x1024, and I don't want it to be set as the primary display (n.b. it's not clear that the primary display setting actually does anything useful from the user's point of view). To reproduce: 1) Boot with no external display attached 2) Plug in an external display 3) Launch nvidia-settings; detect displays and use the 'Configuration' popup to enable the external display in twinview mode. Ensure that the checkbox, Make this the primary display for the X screen is checked for the internal display and not the external display 4) Press 'Apply' in nvidia-settings. The external display should now be enabled 5) Quit nvidia-settings 6) Relaunch nvidia-settings and navigate to the X Server Display Configuration section Expected results: The laptop's internal display is set as the primary display for the X screen Actual results: The external display is set as the primary display for the X screen. This is reliably reproducible on my system. If you set the internal display to be the primary again (after step 6) and quit/relaunch nvidia-settings, the primary display setting is retained properly. It only seems to be broken the first time you launch nvidia-settings after adding an external display. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934281] [NEW] Enabling external monitor doesn't work; have to press 'apply' twice
Public bug reported: On my Macbook Pro 3,1 w/ 8600M GT in 12.04, enabling an external monitor with the nvidia-settings control panel has regressed from 11.10. I have to press the 'apply' button twice in order to get anything on the second monitor. This is reliably reproducible on my system. To reproduce: 1) Boot with no external monitor attached 2) Plug an external monitor into the DVI port 3) Launch nvidia-settings 4) IN the X Server Display Configuration screen, use 'detect displays' to find the external monitor. The second monitor should appear (in this case, it's a Dell 1704FPT - 1280x1024 max resolution 5) Select the image of the external monitor in the control panel 6) From the Configuration popup menu, select Twinview 7) Press Apply to enable the external monitor Expected results: The external monitor is turned on and I see a launcher, panel, and desktop background on both monitors. There should be a dialog asking if I want to accept the changes. Actual results: The laptop screen goes black for a couple seconds, then the desktop returns to the laptop display. The display on the external monitor remains dark and the power light on the external monitor stays amber (indicating that the display is powered on but not being driven). Workaround: After pressing 'Apply' once, wait until the laptop screen returns to its normal state. Press 'Apply' again. This time the laptop screen gets corrupted, the corruption is displayed on the external monitor. Both screens might go black with just a mouse cursor for up to 15 seconds. Once compiz+unity are done with their histrionics I have a dual-screen desktop working normally, with a dialog asking if I want to accept the changes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 915265] [NEW] Unity launcher corruption on resume from suspend
Public bug reported: The unity launcher is reliably corrupted upon resume from suspend with some (all?) NVidia hardware with the proprietary NVidia driver. All other visual elements seem to draw correctly, it's just the unity launcher that has this problem. The launcher looks fine after it redraws (for example, if you mouse over it). The problem is not reproducible on Intel or AMD graphics hardware, and I'm told (by Ted Gould) that it doesn't affect the nouveau driver. I have not tested the nouveau driver myself. This problem been reported several times in the comments of bug 676166, I'm filing this separate bug for clarity since 676166 is overloaded. To reproduce: 1) Suspend 2) Resume 2a) login, if necessary. Note that the login screen (lightdm) displays properly 3) Notice the corrupted launcher 4) Mouse over the launcher; the launcher redraws and the corruption goes away The problem affects 11.10, and is not fixed by upgrading to more recent unity, compiz, or nvidia drivers from oneiric-updates or even the most recent SRU candidates not yet in oneiric-proposed. Currently I have the following installed and the problem still exists: ii nvidia-common 1:0.2.35.1 Find obsolete NVIDIA drivers ii nvidia-current280.13-0ubuntu6 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-current-updates285.05.09-0ubuntu0.1 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-settings 280.13-0ubuntu2.1 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver ii nvidia-settings-updates 285.05.09-0ubuntu0.1 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver Unity SRU candidate (not yet in -proposed): ii unity 4.28.0-0ubuntu1~ppa1 Interface designed for efficiency of space and interaction. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 845857] [NEW] Disable Display Device dialog shown on the unplugged monitor
Public bug reported: I have a dual-monitor setup (laptop + external monitor). Unplugging the external monitor then running 'detect displays' in NVidia Settings results in the Disable Display Device dialog being displayed on the just-unplugged monitor. This is not helpful. To reproduce: 1) Boot Ubuntu w/ an external monitor hooked up. The system comes up and drives both screens 2) Launch nvidia-settings; select X Server Display Configuration. Note that the 2 screens are shown in in TwinView mode. The laptop's internal monitor (DFP-0 on GPU 0) is set as the primary display according to the Make this the primary display for the X screen checkbox in NVidia Settings 3) Unplug the external monitor 4) Press the Detect Displays button At this point the nvidia-settings app appears to hang - the buttons (including 'Quit') don't respond. The Layout widget continues to show the external monitor as being connected. The device tree in the left pane of NVida Settings does show the external display as being removed from GPU 0. 5) Plug the external monitor back in. Note the Disable Display Device dialog is displayed on the external monitor. The dialog should not be displayed on the monitor that was just unplugged. It should be displayed on the monitor that was not unplugged, so that it is actually usable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 692755] [NEW] Corrupt graphics on resume from S4
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I'm unable to resume from S4 on a Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 w/ ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 (1002:9553). Upon entering S4, the graphics become corrupt - it looks a bit like an X11 stipple or that checkerboard that used to be the X background (though it's not just BW, there is some R/G/B in the pattern. The pattern is not as random as static; it appears tiled, as if we're displaying tiles populated with corrupt video memory. On resume from hibernate, the BIOS logo is not corrupt and the (not- corrupted) plymouth logo flashes for an instant. There are several seconds of a flashing white cursor at the top left of the screen too. Once X comes back I see the stipple pattern/corruption again. Both the X and console sessions are corrupted. There is a separate corrupt tile surrounding the mouse cursor (the cursor itself is not visible). Moving the mouse cursor results in the mouse-tile moving around. The machine is otherwise functional - I can (blindly) login to a console on a VT and execute commands. Syslog from the failed resume session shows errors from drm:radeon, starting with: Dec 19 14:36:49 ubuntu-ThinkPad-SL510 kernel: [ 1026.671568] [drm:r600_ring_test] *ERROR* radeon: ring test failed (scratch(0x8504)=0xCAFEDEAD) Dec 19 14:36:49 ubuntu-ThinkPad-SL510 kernel: [ 1026.671570] [drm:rv770_resume] *ERROR* r600 startup failed on resume If I disable the radeon driver by adding, e.g., the made-up 'radeon.nofailboat=1' kernel parameter, the machine enters and resumes from S4 normally, with no corruption upon either entering or resuming from S4. I've reproduced in both the stock 10.10 kernel and the daily natty kernel (2.6.37-999-generic #201012200905). kern.log from a test w/ patch from the fdo bug. The patch didn't cause any change in behavior.
