[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543808] Re: [gm45] blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg
Confirmed: The problem does not exist with 2.6.32-19-generic from the Beta 2 install image. gnome-settings-daemon is running and there is no flicker. So I suppose this issue can be closed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543808] Re: [gm45] blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg
OK, here we go: I hit ctrl-alt-F1 to switch to a virtual terminal and the heavy flickering immediately returned. With some difficulty I opened gterm, ran ps -aux and noticed: ubuntu 16416 0.5 0.6 104924 13208 ?Ss 00:41 0:01 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon ... which I previously had killed. $ killall -9 gnome-settings-daemon ... and I'm back to a flicker-free desktop. So it looks like that's the problem. ** Also affects: gnome-settings-daemon Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [gm45] blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/543808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543808] Re: blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg
I'll try this again tonight and see if I can find a UI process that's at fault. To clarify, this is not an installed system, but rather the live CD (actually the live USB stick) system installation image of Lucid Lynx beta 1. It continues to be a problem in the nightly build I grabbed last week. It is occurs on my Acer 1410 laptop with Intel video but not on an older desktop (don't recall the video, but it was not Intel). The problem occurs immediately upon bootup of the live installation image, when the select a language dialog appears, before you even get to the desktop. If you manage to select a language and proceed, it continues as the desktop is drawn. -- blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/543808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 543808] Re: blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg
This is a Lucid Lynx Beta-1 bug report. I had to reboot into Karmic Koala to provide the following details after posting the bug files, because I couldn't even type in Lucid Lynx -- the system missed most of my keystrokes. Here are the symptoms: * CPU utilization by Xorg of 65-75 percent on a dual-core Intel Celeron SU2300 * Heavy blinking/flashing effect is seen as soon as the Lucid Lynx chooser comes up (install or try without installing) * Mouse is sluggish * Keystrokes are dropped * Turning off enhanced desktop effects doesn't help, and may make it worse * Switching/lowering resolution does not help, and sets off a series of errors: Could not switch the monitor configuration / Could not set the configuration for CRCT64 * Ubiquity crashes when the desktop comes up * Upon shutdown, after the desktop disappears but while the mouse pointer is still on screen, the flashing/blinking effect suddenly stops and the mouse becomes very responsive. -- blinking display, high CPU utilization by xorg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/543808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
