I upgraded to Impish a while ago.

I haven’t seen “retry page fault” messages in a long while (I don’t think
it’s related to the distro upgrade, but not sure) so I’d say this
particular bug is fixed at least for me (I have a Picasso GPU).

Which is not to say that things are rosy, unfortunately. But the other
issues I see don’t cause any message to appear in dmesg so it’s hard to
search for existing bug reports about them or open a new one.

The following is off-topic for this bug report, but I’ll mention anyway,
hope you’ll bear with me:

One thing I noticed is that things did get rosy when I did two things:

1. Switched from Xorg to Wayland.
2. Switched Firefox to use Wayland as well.

This led me to the conclusion that the bugs that plague my machine are
triggered by something that Firefox does when it uses X (both “natively” or
via XWayland). For some reason, when it uses Wayland it doesn’t trigger
these GPU bugs.

Another thing that might be relevant is that I have tons of tabs open
(probably more than 200) distributed in 27 open windows. Perhaps I’m
stressing some kind of resource limit in the driver or firmware?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1928393] Re: linux-firmware 1.197 causes kernel to report error "amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault"

2021-10-06 Thread Thiago Jung Bauermann
Hello,

I’d just like to report that I haven’t seen this problem in a while. The
last time I see the “retry page fault” messages in my log was on August 9.

I’ve been using the ‘amdgpu/picasso*‘ files from linux-firmware commit
c46b8c364b82 (“ice: update package file to 1.3.26.0”) so apparently this
particular problem was recently fixed.

Which isn’t to say that I’m having a trouble-free amdgpu experience,
unfortunately. Every week or so my laptop comes back from sleep with the
screen and keyboard frozen (I can still ssh into it), but now the error is:

kernel: [drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_flip_done [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR*
[CRTC:67:crtc-0] flip_done timed out

But it seems to be a separate problem from the one reported in this
particular launchpad issue. I’ll see if I can find a more appropriate
launchpad issue and post the details there.

Thank you all for your help and support with this issue.

2021-08-04 Thread Thiago Jung Bauermann
miliar “retry page fault” problem, which is what
made me look in dmesg.

The amdgpu/picasso* files are the same as in linux-firmware ‘main’ branch
as of today: commit 168452ee695b ("Merge tag 'iwlwifi-fw-2021-07-19' of
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/iwlwifi/linux-firmware into
main”). The kernel is Ubuntu’s 5.11.0-25-generic.

The full log is attached. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Thiago.

¹ I suggest trying to reproduce with the following steps:

1. Grab a laptop with a Picasso integrated GPU.
2. Install Kubuntu 21.04 on it.
3. Install and use Firefox from Flathub:
   https://www.flathub.org/apps/details/org.mozilla.firefox
4. Log into KDE and run the above Firefox.
5. With the laptop on battery power (I have the impression that the bug is
easier to trigger that way), suspend and restore the machine a few times.

I updated the picasso* files from commit:

d79c26779d45 amdgpu: update vcn firmware for green sardine for 21.20

And I still see the issue. It took a while to reproduce: I updated the
firmware (and ran `update-initramfs -u -k all` to get it into the
initramfs) on July 12 and had the laptop turned on since then (closing the
lid to put it to sleep), and today I saw the problem again.

The full dmesg is attached.

I just had this bug happen again spontaneously, while running with Mesa
from Mario’s PPA.

So this bug isn’t fixed by the patch mentioned by Alex.

I don’t think I can narrow down which firmware file causes the problem,
because I don’t have a last known good version. All firmware files that I
tested (Ubuntu versions 1.190.5, 1.197 and latest linux-firmware.git)
immediately trigger the bug when I try the only reliable reproducer I know
(i.e., running flatpak’s com.github.quaternion package).

Since it can take several days for the bug to happen if I just use the
machine normally, it would take weeks to narrow down which of the picasso_*
files is more stable relative to the others. And even then, I wouldn’t be
sure about it.

I’m running with the Mesa build from Mario’s PPA now. If I don’t see any
issue within two weeks, I think it will be possible to say that the bug is
gone, or at least much harder to hit.

I can’t use my reproducer in this case, because I can’t change the Mesa
version inside the flatpak image.

Ok, I will try.

Also, is it possible and/or worthwhile trying to bisect firmware versions from
the linux-firmware repo? How coupled is the firmware with the kernel
driver? E.g., can I try using firmware files from 1 year ago with current
kernel and Mesa?

One thing that’s a bit “fishy” about my machine is that it doesn’t seem to
have a good clock:

[0.580451] Unstable clock detected, switching default tracing clock to

If you want to keep using the local clock, then add:

   on the kernel command line

Could this bug be related to that?

I have similar problem.

imac 27" with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, 4.18.0-25-generic
Thunderbolt display
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK104M [GeForce GTX 775M Mac
Edition] (rev a1)

Sometimes, after logging in, both screens are on.
After shutdown, the second screen sometimes is off.
Then, I have to restart and it could or couldn't work.

Looks like random behavior.

It would be good to have the second screen on since the boot startup.

2019-03-29 Thread Thiago Martins
So, there is a need to rebuild xrdp against HWE 18.04.

Maybe Ubuntu should provide a new binary package, let's say "xrdp-
hwe-18.04"

For now, I've recompiled the same xrdp from Ubuntu 18.04, on Ubuntu
18.04.2 and uploaded to my "XRP PPA", here:

https://launchpad.net/~martinx/+archive/ubuntu/xrdp-hwe-18.04

To enjoy xrdp on Ubuntu 18.04 with HWE, just do:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:martinx/xrdp-hwe-18.04
sudo apt install xrdp xorgxrdp

;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1251873] Re: X crashes back to login screen when running firefox, chrome, etc.

2013-11-30 Thread Thiago Martins
I have the same error at intel_set_mode+0x25/0x30 [i915]. X won't always
come back to login screen, but screen turns black and every X client
dies.

I can reproduce it consistently by triggering resolution changes.
Important information: I am using kde with kwin as window manager (this
appears to be OP's case as well, since his InstallationMedia is listed
as Kubuntu 12.04).

2012-10-29 Thread Thiago Martins
It seem to be an intel+mesa9 specific problem. And what about KDE? Can
anyone confirm the rendering problems on Unity? And what about other
distros? Who else is fielding mesa9 right now? It seems that both fedora
and opensuse remain on 8.0.4. Heck, even Debian friggin' unstable is on
8.0.4.! Gentoo perhaps?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-10-23 Thread Thiago Martins
@Rob: Ok, so I'm back from rebooting after bumblebee install and I
report no corruption nor frame rate reduction. optirun glxspheres is
working flawlessly on my NVidia 650M at 220 fps (jpg transport)...

However...

I did install it through aptitude, which pointed that the recommended
virtualgl-libs-ia32 (i386) was incompatible with the available versions
of libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 (only version 9.0-0ubuntu1 is available here).
As such, aptitude (rightfully) ignored this recommendation. Muon, on the
other hand, *will* try to install virtualgl-libs-ia32, which I suppose
will break the downgrade to mesa 8.0.4.

Now, what do I make of this? Well, for start, I fear my bumblebee
install won't work with my wine games. I haven't tried it yet, but the
lack of a 32 bits virtualgl lib is not looking promising. I will report
on that soon.

Then, again, aptitude won't install the 32bits version of virtualgl for
the lack of a 32bits version of libgl1-mesa-glx. Well, there's one build
of such version on the very same repository pointed by the OP, under
i386 builds! My next steps are:

- Find out if the lack of virtualgl-libs-ia32 is really problematic (i.e. wine
gaming).
- Find out if I can install virtualgl-libs-32 using the i386 builds of mesa
8.0.4 from the repository of the OP.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-10-23 Thread Thiago Martins
@Rob: Ok, as I guessed, wine wouldn't even install without virtualgl-
libs-ia32 (on a unrelated note: aren't all *-ia32 libs deprecated in
favor of multiarch?).

Fair enough, I downloaded the i386 versions of libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1
-mesa-glx, libglapi-mesa and libglu1-mesa packages and installed them
with dpkg -i. Unsurprisingly, libgl1-mesa-* remained unconfigured due to
unsatisfied dependencies. I ten fired aptitude, who promptly suggested
the removal of the 3 libs. The very next suggestion was the installation
of the missing dependencies. I installed them and now I have a working
wine+bublebee combo. My packages are a bit of a mess now, though...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 971179] [NEW] ATI fglrx/xorg need to be reconfigured at every boot

2012-04-01 Thread Thiago Belem
Public bug reported:

First of all, i'm not sure if this bug is on xorg, fglrx or another
package.. i'm goin with xorg because the workaround create a new xorg
config.

After upgrading to Precise my Ubuntu didn't booted: After the Ubuntu
11.10 loading screen, no login screen was shown... Only a black screen
and a blinking terminal cursor.

The only solution I found to sucessfully login into my computer is:

1. Reboot and choose recovery mode on GRUB menu
2. Enable network (so you can leave the read-only mode)
3. Go to the terminal as root
4. Run aticonfig --initial -f (so it generate a new Xorg config)
5. Reboot

But I have to do this again on the next boot... this isn't a permanent
'fix'.

Feel free to tell me which command I need to run so I can provide more
details on this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597476] Re: nVidia C67 GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M uses an unusable resolution by default

2011-05-13 Thread Thiago Motta
I am on Natty final on a HP Pavilion DV2840se with a geforce 7150 630m
video card and the same issue is present. The card detect the TV OUT as
connected so it keep the resolution below the default for my laptop.

I configured nouveau.tv_disable=1 in my kernel not ir start in the
correct resolution but it is unusable as mentioned in this bug.

I tryied with out of the box drivers, latest updates and xorg-edgers
packages and all of them has the same bahaviers.

It would be great to have nouvau working in the correct resolution for
my laptop.

Does anyone know a fix for this, even if it's just a temporary hack?

2010-04-07 Thread Thiago Figueiro
Hi, Alberto.

Thanks for that and right you are. I've removed all traces of the
proprietary driver and reinstalled the open-source driver. Running
glxinfo no longer dumps a core:

Still doesn't work as it did on 9.10. Should this be handled on a different
bug entry?

xorg.conf is pretty standard:

Section Module
Loadglx
EndSection

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver radeon
EndSection

Cheers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494167] [NEW] Karmic going into low graphics mode after latest updates

2009-12-08 Thread Thiago Galesi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After applying the latest updates to my Kubuntu installation, Xorg
stopped working

It would complain about going into low graphics mode but then going
into low graphics mode would not work

It would also show this message: (EE) Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000:
failed to initialise for
relative axes. but this is a false indication, no error is actually shown in
the logs if the keyboard is umplugged but Xorg malfunctions in the same way

If I edit xorg.conf to use the vesa driver, it will complain about going
into low graphics mode but then going into rescue mode works. (with
vesa graphics as expected)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-11-22 Thread Thiago
I upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic (on my T400), bug still present, like
you already know. Installed xorg with backclear patch from ppa (#291)
and everything seems to work again (after installing fglrx again from
ATI binary).

On a side note, I have OpenSuse 11.2 on the same machine, and it has the
same problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286028] Re: wacomcpl doesn't work when the stylus is configured by HAL (.fdi method)

2009-11-19 Thread Thiago Melo
Wait, looks like sending this patch to upstream isn't needed. They
already fixed this bug (in dev).

I compiled linuxwacom-dev in my system and I noticed that xsetwacom
returns and accepts device names with underscores instead of white
spaces and wacomcpl just works well alongside it. The only minor bug in
wacomcpl is how it deals with some special characters in device names,
like / , \ and . So, for upstream, the only useful part of my
patch is the one that fix it.

2009-11-18 Thread Thiago Melo
No problem. :)

And, no, I didn't. I'll give it a try. It's also a good opportunity to
break some long lines of code in my patch that I left as is (shame on
me).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286028] Re: wacomcpl doesn't work when the stylus is configured by HAL (.fdi method)

2009-11-16 Thread Thiago Melo
Hi Ubuntu people.
I'm using the stable version of linuxwacom (0.8.4-3) compiled with
src/util/wacomcfg.c from linuxwacom-dev and it's working fine for xsetwacom.
However, wacomcpl still doesn't deal with spaced names, so I wrote a patch for
wacomcpl-exec to fix it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397617] Re: brightness no more working on karmic (KMS)

2009-10-11 Thread Thiago Camargo Martins Cordeiro
Guys,

The screen of my Macbook Air 1,1 is totally black, I mean, the
brightness is 0% by default and I can't adjust it with the F1/F2 keys.

The Karmic that I'm using was upgraded right now.

The boot option nomodeset solves the problem but now, the boot
process have a lot of flickers...

Nevertheless, the Desktop Effects is still working!

Thanks!

Suspend to RAM is working fine with my T400 (configuration details on
my previous post). Haven't tried suspend to disk yet.

 [updated]
Since the new version of ubuntu/kubuntu (9.04 jaunty) a new bug occurs with
ATI cards and desktop effects enabled.
With fglrx driver, the unminimizing of windows is really slow ... it can take
 from 1 to 3 seconds.
Also, the maximizing, unmaximizing and Alt+Tab present the same problem.
The opening of a window present the same bug, freezing the system for 1sec.
This bug is under both gnome and kde (4.2.1)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 350548] Re: gdm crashed (fatal x error) on Jaunty Beta

2009-06-26 Thread Thiago Figueiro
I have previously downloaded and installed nVidia's driver version 185
and I haven't had xorg crash after that.

When I get to work on Monday I'll give your packaged driver a go.

Cheers,

2009/6/26 Bryce Harrington br...@bryceharrington.org:

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
 resolves this bug?

 Get nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14 here:

Robert, this looks like something I can live with.

I would really like to use the -generic kernel or x64 but this is my
work machine :(

I'll test the x-retro driver then.

No crashes since I installed the updated nVidia driver:

My machine was crashing several times a day. I have re-enabled the
OpenGL screensavers and so far so good.

2009-06-09 Thread Thiago Figueiro
No crashes since I changed XScreensaver to Blank Screen.

I have now removed the Ubuntu nvidia driver (v 180) and manually
installed nVidia's latest (v 185).

I have also re-enabled the OpenGL screensavers. Will post the results
after a few days.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 350548] Re: gdm crashed (fatal x error) on Jaunty Beta

2009-06-04 Thread Thiago Figueiro
Since my last comment I have disabled XScreensaver.

While I don't think XScreensaver is at fault it has many OpenGL
intensive applications. I suspect one of them is triggering the bug.
Unfortunately I can't say which one yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 368083] Re: [i965q] Kubuntu jaunty xorg intel driver crashes

2009-05-13 Thread Thiago Galesi
OK, I tested this:

ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1

With the standart xorg.conf , xorg doesn't crash, but I get a black
screen on kdm (only with a functioning mouse cursor)

On reverting to the 'good' Xorg.conf and restarting kdm, the machine
crashed. But then it worked with the good Xorg. (some of the problem
seem to be with initialization)
