I upgraded from Bionic to Cosmic by editing /etc/apt/sources.list replacing all occurences of bionic by cosmic and then running sudo apt update sudo apt dist-upgrade After some time the error occured and I cleaned up with sudo apt install -f and completed the upgrade with another sudo apt dist-upgrade which this time completed without errors. In the end I did sudo apt autoremove to finish up. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1228570] Re: Login often fails
I am also logging into my Thinkpad Twist via SSH (with -X option to be able to use X apps) and indeed this influences whether I can log in. If I am able to log in directly on my laptop's screen, I am able to log in again and again as long as I do not log in via SSH. If I log in via SSH from another machine while I am logged in on the laptop's own screen and then log out on the laptop's screen I cannot log in again on the laptop's screen. To be able to log in again, I have to log out of the SSH session and log in again via SSH, after that I can log in again on the laptop's screen. My .Xauthority file is most probably the culprit. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1231376] [NEW] Let touch screens be used under the Wacom driver
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist which is a convertible with touch screen. In tablet mode it should be possible to easily rotate the screen oprientation so that it can be used in both landscape and portrait mode and even without needing to care which edge is at the bottom and which at the top. See bug 1216065 for further information. To be able to easily rotate the touch screen coordinate system to match the screen content, the touch screen should be run under the wacom driver. In addition, the Wacom driver adds some more gestures to the touch screen. At least on my Thinkpad Twist the switchover is easy. One only needs to add |Atmel to the MatchProduct line in the InputClass section with Identifier Wacom class in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf. See also the attached file. For a quick test (which survives updates and can easily be undone), copy /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf and edit this file. Restart X by rebooting or restarting lightdm. What gets added: - Touch coordinate system rotation (bug 1216065) - Right-click emulation by holding a finger on the place where the right click should happen and then tapping anywhere else with a second finger, after that sliding the held down first finger to the desired entry of the context menu and releasing there. What gets lost: - The three-and four-finger gestures described on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Multitouch. Bug 1227214 needs to get fixed. ** Affects: xf86-input-wacom (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Attachment added: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1231376/+attachment/3842054/+files/50-wacom.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1231376 Title: Let touch screens be used under the Wacom driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1231376/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yes, the right-click gesture of comment #7 comes from the Wacom driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212736] Re: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android
The right click on the touch-operated Ubuntu Desktop is not completely unimplemented. Besides the possibility of using the right-click emulation of Onboard one can right-click by holding one finger on the place where one wants to right click, and while holding the finger down tapping with another finger on an arbitrary place of the touch screen and after that sliding the held down first finger through the context menu to the desired item and releasing there, which leads to the item being selected. It works on the standard (in my case Unity) desktop and even in XBMC. This gesture is rather awkward and far from intuitive to find without any instructions (see the time between this comment and my creation of the touch screen/convertible Blueprint to which this bug is linked), especially also where Android and Windows 8 use a long press as right click, and the Ubuntu Desktop is usually installed as an alternative operating system on machines which are originally supplied with Windows or Android and so conserving operation schemes from these systems makes switching over to Ubuntu much easier. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1212736 Title: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mousetweaks/+bug/1212736/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212736] Re: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Android
Also note that the right-click emulation of Universal Access only reveals the right-click menu after releasing the button, whereas under Android or Windows 8 the menu already pops up while long pressing. The latter gives the user the feedback that he has pressed long enough, and as it is also established as standard (two other operating systems use it) we should do it this way. ** Summary changed: - Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Android + Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android ** Description changed: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist convertible ultrabook (Intel Core i7). - The tablet mode (touchscreen-only operation, keyboard folded away) get + The tablet mode (touchscreen-only operation, keyboard folded away) gets continuously working better. One important missing feature is an easy-to-do right click. The right- click emulation button in Onboard is a rather awkward solution, as Onboard only shows up when selecting a text input field. I suggest to emulate the right-click by a long press on the screen. It is done in Android this way, too, and works very well for me. Note that the long-press right-click functionality in Universal Access in the Control Center only works with a mouse and not with the touch screen (another bug). Yes, I have found out already that in the mainline I have to check 3.8 as newest good and 3.8.1 as oldest bad kernel release. Currently I am doing a doing a GIT bisect between these two. According to the estimates by git bisect I am currently building for the third-last stage, finishing in 20 minutes from now (18:00 CEST), after that I have to do more two steps of 40 minutes build time each, arriving at the result at ~19:30 CEST. The final result of my bisect is actually what I guessed in the previous comment (see output below). The patch (also below) is simple and one can easily see that undoing it would solve the problem. It seems that some monitors (including my monitor) report that they are non-continuous frequency but in reality they are. The simplest way to fix this bug is simply to undo the patch to support such buggy monitors, the correct fix would be an exception list with the monitors which support resolutions which they do not report. There should perhaps be a possibility to override this manually by a run-time configuration bit so that for all monitors the non-reported resolutions get listed. till@till-twist:~/kernel/linux-stable$ git bisect good 740922ee575f8ee4daa2bfd3db5f69dd7573fc76 is the first bad commit commit 740922ee575f8ee4daa2bfd3db5f69dd7573fc76 Author: Paulo Zanoni paulo.r.zan...@intel.com Date: Fri Feb 15 13:36:27 2013 -0200 drm: don't add inferred modes for monitors that don't support them commit 196e077dc165a307efbd9e7569f81bbdbcf18f65 upstream. The last good kernel was 3.8.0-8.17 and the first bad kernel was 3.8.0-9.18. The changelog between the two releases is rather small but I do not really have an idea which change could be the culprit. See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/3.8.0-9.18 I tried to bisect commits with git, but the two tags Ubuntu-3.8.0-9.18 and Ubuntu-3.8.0-8.17 are non-linear, so git bisect does not find the path between them. Perhaps the debdiff or the changes described by the changelog items need to get investigated. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1167301 Title: 8086:0166 [ThinkPad Twist S230u 3347] REGRESSION: Mirroring display works only with 1024x768 (4:3) whereas my laptop has 1366x768 (16:9) external monitor 1920x1080 (16:9) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1167301/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212736] [NEW] Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Android
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist convertible ultrabook (Intel Core i7). The tablet mode (touchscreen-only operation, keyboard folded away) get continuously working better. Peter, I have tested your new branch on the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist now. I do not get any crashes and left clicking by tapping is absolutely reliable for me.
