And there's more random crashes. (xiccd being the next one to go kaput) All of this in a pure QEMU VM. Interesting. For me, the problem is easily reproducible on an Acer Chromebook C720 with a 2nd gen Intel Celeron with an Intel iGPU. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1981582] [NEW] After waking up 2 screens in an extended desktop, they are overlayed on top of one another
Public bug reported: Specific behavior: When I "wake up" my computer (it is not in "Suspend", just "sleeping"), and both screens awaken, they are _effectively_ mirrored. I log in (see all display and inputs identically on both screens), open `nvidia- settings`, and go to "X Server Display Configuration". It appears to only display one screen. However, if I grab that screen and drag it to the right, it is revealed that the second display has just been set to sit atop the first display. Once I re-place the second screen to the right of the first, and click "Apply", things are fine until next time. My screens are "Dell Display 24"s (DELL P2419HC) and are identical. One is connected via Display Port and the other is connected via HDMI. They are set to 1920x1080. I'm running NVidia drivers 470.129.06 on an NVidia GeForce GTX 960. If I merely lock the screen (Super + L), it _does_ lock the screen and shut the screens off, and I have to sign back in, but this does _not_ reproduce the bug. The buggy behavior consistently happens when the screens shut off on their own after a period of time (presumably from power saving or an idle timeout). The displays are shut off at the OS level, and then the screens themselves (getting no signal) go to sleep. ** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "nvidia-settings showing one display sitting atop the other" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1981582/+attachment/5602886/+files/Screenshot%20from%202022-07-13%2009-37-40.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1981582 Title: After waking up 2 screens in an extended desktop, they are overlayed on top of one another To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/1981582/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The power light is still on when this happens, so the computer is on. I've had to resort to holding the power button to restart every time. The behavior only changed (and got even weirder) when I plugged my monitor into my laptop. Things worked normally until my laptop went into standby. This time the monitor woke up as normal, and my laptop screen became filled with colorful static. I'm able to use the computer as normal on the monitor, which is how I'm filing this report. I should note that I installed routine updates yesterday through Software Updater, which is likely what triggered these issues. I also had a possibly related bug yesterday (after updating) where my laptop's fan stopped working. I restarted once and the fan still wouldn't turn on. I switched to my Windows partition and the fan started working. Then when I switched back to my Ubuntu partition the fan was working normally. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1938867] [NEW] Keyboard not entering text into input fields
Public bug reported: I am running Hirsuite on a Raspberry Pi 4. My main keyboard for this (TV) machine is a wireless Logitech K400r combined keyboard/trackpad. When I first installed, I do not think there were any issues with the keyboard. When I did updates, my keyboard half-stopped working. It is very odd -- the keyboard is obviously working, as I can enter in my password on the lock screen or press Ctrl+Alt t for a terminal, but then I cannot enter anything into the terminal, Firefox input fields or anything else. Even more strangely, when I attach a second USB keyboard, both that new keyboard and my K400r work perfectly. When I unplug the USB keyboard, it stops working again. I have been experiencing a similar problem with a GeForce 7300 GT on a Mac Pro 1,1. I also have visual artifacts in 18.04 and 20.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1850635] [NEW] Some applications don't redraw their windows correctly
Public bug reported: After updating from 19.04 to 19.10 I noted that some apps don't redraw their window(s) correctly. Affected apps include (it seems) all Qt- based apps (including KDE and VirtualBox), as well as firefox/thunderbird. Unaffected apps include emacs, chrome, xterm. The symptom is that an affected app will only redraw its window when another X window redraws its window. If there is no other window, then the app's window is not redrawn at all. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1813423] Re: System freezing or flickering with i915 error [drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1806242 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1806242 https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/intel-microcode-atomic-update.html TLDR ` Apparently, hardware-based panel refresh supports automatic entry and exit from self-refresh. It is also an atomic operation, which means the processor will wait for it to complete until it finishes. Instinctively, we can assume there is some kind of an issue here, because if it takes to long for the screen to refresh, it may appear frozen. Perhaps the driver misses buffers, or something else in the driver blocks the self-refresh functionality. This is not a guaranteed reason for the problem, but it a decent rule of thumb for what we are facing. And now, we can, with some confidence, attempt to apply a workaround that may help mitigate the freeze issues until a complete solution is provided with a driver update as part of normal distro update cycle. Hopefully. ` Work arounds Install Intel's proprietary firmware (Intel microcode) Under /etc/modprobe.d/, you will need to create a configuration file i915.conf, if it does not already exist. Then, inside this file, you will need to add the following line: options i915 enable_psr=0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813423 Title: System freezing or flickering with i915 error [drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1813423/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1769270] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo T430. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled
Jonathan, Given the latest version of xfce-settings (4.12.1) was easy to install and fixed all of my issues (see comment #130 above), it would be interesting to know whether this also fixed your problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled
I have an ASUS Z170M-Plus Mobo with an Intel Core i3-6100T, Intel HD 530 graphics and a Samsung TV connected through HDMI, running Mythbuntu 16.04. I had the issue that when I turned the TV off and then back on again, the TV would say "No Signal" and I would have to run $ sudo service lightdm restart to get it to work again. Based on Alexandre's comment #128, I installed xfce-settings 4.12.1 from here: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/amd64/xfce4-settings/download http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/pool/main/x/xfce4-settings/xfce4-settings_4.12.1-1_amd64.deb and installed it on my Mythbuntu 16.04 installation. To my surprise, I didn't have any dependency issues, it all applied without problems and now the problem seems fixed! I can turn the TV off and on again and the picture comes back as expected. Great work all in getting this sorted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105 Title: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/1308105/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

However, selecting text by line with a triple-click/4-tap drag works fine. This bug does not appear when Ubuntu 16.04.1 is run in a VM in VirtualBox. [1] and now Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to Linux kernel 4.4.0-34-generic (the same as for 16.04) Steps to reproduce: 1) On a 1st-generation Toshiba Chromebook (and possibly other machines, too), run Ubuntu 16.04.1 from a boot disk (http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso). 2) Open a terminal window and type several words. 3) Double-click/triple-touchpad-tap and then drag the mouse to attempt to select multiple words. 4) Compare this to the same boot disk run in VirtualBox, where it works properly. - 5) Compare this to Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to Linux kernel 4.4.0-34-generic, where it doesn't work. + 5) Compare this to Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to Linux kernel 4.4.0-34-generic (see comment #23 & http://wiki.ubuntu.com/1404_HWE_EOL), where it doesn't work. 6) Compare this to the hardware-specific update but with Linux kernel 4.4.0-34-generic removed (downgraded to 3.16.0-77-generic), where it also doesn't work (and is therefore not a kernel problem, but rather relates to other files in the hardware-specific update). Expected results: Multiple words are selected. Actual result: Only the first word is selected. Reproducibility: Double-click drag-select will work occasionally, but most of the time it doesn't. Workaround: In applications other than Terminal, can use Ctrl+Shift+Right-Arrow to select by word (significantly slower for large text blocks). No known workaround for Terminal. Impact: Recommend not upgrading to 16.04 if you have a computer where double-click drag-select doesn't work in it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics
flocculant has determined (and I can confirm) that setting the Intel drivers to uxa acceleration mode instead of the default sna mode, fixes this issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics
I have a external monitor attached to my laptop and the mouse comes back if you move it on to the second monitor. At that point it is fixed until you lock Xubuntu again. Not sure if this is useful information to developers working on the fix but there you go. What is the status on this bug?
