[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484941] Re: nvidia-glx-185 graphics corruption whilst using compiz and other gl-based apps
I must admit that I haven't seen this in quite some time, suggesting that it is fixed in the current release -- but probably just by virtue of the current release not using the 185 drivers... ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/484941 Title: nvidia-glx-185 graphics corruption whilst using compiz and other gl- based apps ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484941] [NEW] nvidia-glx-185 graphics corruption whilst using compiz and other gl-based apps
Public bug reported: hardware: XFX gtx260 nvidia-glx-180 used to work just fine under 9.04. Upgrade to 9.10 (and finally, out of sheer frustration, re-install to 9.10) saw the introduction of this bug. An application which makes use of GL under Compiz causes graphics corruption and instability with Compiz. Certain textures (read: most icons as well as some window internals, eg Firefox page display) are replaced with corrupted messes instead of their correct contents. Originally, I figured this was a Compiz issue, but IT'S NOT. Upgrading my nvidia drivers to to version 190.42-0ubuntu1~karmic~nvidiavdpauppa2 by using the ppa at: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu karmic main causes the problem to cease. I've been running these drivers for a little under a week and the corruption issue which would show up from a GL-based screensaver within a day of a X restart is no more. So I'm quite confident that the 185 drivers in 9.10 at the moment (185.18.36-0ubuntu9) are the problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 438873] Re: Compiz crashes after leaving a fullscreen application
Ok, so I can't install the 173 drivers -- which would explain why jocky only gives me the option of the 185 drivers... But the 190 drivers from the ppa mentioned at: http://www.ubuntugeek.com /howto-install-nvidia-190-25-beta-drivers-in-ubuntu- jauntyintrepidhardy.html are giving me more joy -- I left my machine for the day and came back to *no* graphics corruption (something new for my Karmic system). So perhaps the problem isn't compiz -- *perhaps* the problem is just simply badly QA'd proprietary drivers with no backup to previously known good drivers (ie, the 180 series). -- Compiz crashes after leaving a fullscreen application https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438873 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 438873] Re: Compiz crashes after leaving a fullscreen application
I would imagine that my problem is related here: the OpenGL screensaver BlinkBox has, on numerous occasions, appeared to cause Compiz to freak out and die after a period of usage (ie, not immediately when the screensaver starts up, but after a while, when I come back to my machine, it appears to be locked up). Sometimes I can get my machine back into a decent state by turning off compiz and turning it back on again. Sometimes X is so unresponsive that I have to restart gdm. Once, the whole machine appeared to be completely locked up and I had to reboot. I didn't have this issue with Jaunty -- but it may be related rather to the drivers? I've noticed some people having issues with the nvidia 185 drivers (and we can't install the previously working 180 drivers because it's just a dummy package ): ). I'm about to try installing the 173 drivers to see if that fixes the problem. Alternatively, I'll try the nvidia ppa with the latest beta drivers (at my own risk, of course (: ) -- Compiz crashes after leaving a fullscreen application https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438873 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
