[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245662] Re: Sticky Keys not released after mouse action.

2014-08-09 Thread dotancohen
I am concerned that Xorg 1.16 has not made it into 14.10 yet. Can this
be prioritized? The current 14.04 LTS version does not contain the fix,
therefore disabled users are still on 12.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245662] Re: Sticky Keys not released after mouse action.

2014-04-03 Thread dotancohen
Is it too late to get this fix into the 14.04 LTS release? I hate to see
an LTS release without this critical accessibility fix. In fact, it is
only because the previous LTS release (12.04) had proper accessibility
that I was able to revert to that version when this issue cropped up.

If an LTS release gets out the door without this accessibility fix, any
other accessibility issues that crop up in any of the next few Ubuntu
versions will be absolute showstoppers. Telling people to Just use that
latest LTS release until your issue is resolved won't be valid due to
accessibility issues in the LTS version itself!

Is it reasonable to expect that accessibility issues would be a priority
in an LTS release?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245662] Re: Sticky Keys not released after mouse action.

2014-01-09 Thread dotancohen
I'll not update the BIOS on this machine for unrelated reasons. For one
thing, this is obviously not a BIOS issue, so I suspect that comment #28
was an automated reply and not a real attempt at resolving this issue.

Additionally, I can verify the issue on all six computers that I've
tested on (home computer, work computer, mother-in-law's computer, a
neighbour who uses Kubuntu, and two co-workers who use Kubuntu and
Ubuntu). These are all different systems. Furthermore, Rob Rosenbaum has
confirmed the issue in this bug and others have confirmed the issue in
other forums.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245662] Re: Sticky Keys not released after mouse action.

2014-01-08 Thread dotancohen
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 regression reproducible
trusty ubuntu

** Description changed:

The accessibility option Sticky Keys in it's default state releases the
'stuck' modifier key after any HID input (mouse click, keyboard non-
modifier button pressed). Additionally, Sticky Keys has a Lock feature
which does not automatically release the 'stuck modifier', but rather
waits until the user presses the modifier key again to release it.

In Kubuntu 13.10 the 'Lock' feature is broken. It is _always_enabled_
for the mouse, and _always_disabled_ for the keyboard, regardless of
whether or not the checkbox is checked. Actually, Kubuntu 13.04 had this
problem as well, but I though that it was a configuration issue on my
part and simply avoided updating to 13.04. However, I can no longer
avoid updating and I cannot use current Kubuntu with the Accessibility
  issue in this state.

What are the conditions for considering an issue high priority? Users
with Accessibility issues can no longer use the current KDE, does that
  quality for high priority?

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Enable Sticky Keys (System Settings - Accessibility - Modifier Keys)
  2. Enable Use sticky keys and disable Lock sticky keys.
  3. In Kate, click Ctrl then click a mail in the Message List Pane to select
it. Now click on a second mail and notice that it too is selected. Now a third.
Actual Results: All the mails are added to the selection.
Expected Results: One would expect that with the Lock sticky keys checkbox
disabled that the Ctrl button would be released after clicking a single mail.
With Lock sticky keys disabled the expected workflow to select multiple mails
is to either press the Ctrl button after each mail or to hold it down.

Note that this issue affects all modifier keys in all applications. This
is most annoying when using Shift- or Ctrl- MouseScroll i.e. in Firefox
as the modifier is not release when expected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1245662] Re: Sticky Keys not released after mouse action.

2013-12-30 Thread dotancohen
Upstream bug report:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73155

Harald, Rob, please comment on that bug to confirm the issue and its
severity for disabled users. (K)ubutnu 12.10 will soon no longer be
viable and disabled users will not have a supportable upgrade path.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531208] Re: Need way to insert arbitrary unicode characters in Kubuntu

2010-07-21 Thread dotancohen
While it sounds like a legitimate issue, it seems to be kubuntu specific so
not something we're likely to fix as part of the Ubuntu xorg work. Perhaps
you should speak to the kubuntu folks if it needs implemented at the
 distro level.

That is quite the reason for this bug report. Please change the xorg
(Ubuntu) assignment to xorg (Kubuntu) as I do not seem to have
permissions for that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 571771] Re: ATI graphics driver has trouble with 3D apps: Celestia, Google Earth, Stellarium

2010-05-03 Thread dotancohen
This seems to be related to this Xorg driver bug:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8732

Apparently, enabling dri2 and uxa is a workaround, but end users neither
know that they must do this nor do they know how to. Ubuntu can work
around this bug by enabling dri2 and uxa in the distro.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531208] Re: Need way to insert arbitrary unicode characters in Kubuntu

2010-03-03 Thread dotancohen
I don't really see anything in the Xorg report
pushing this back down to the distro.

In private mail, an Xorg developer let me know that it won't be fixed in
Xorg. Just as Gnome managed to implement a fix, so must either Qt or
KDE. He suggested that I file the issue at my distro if KDE / Qt won't
take it. So here I am :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-15 Thread dotancohen
  You are not a developer

I don't know where you get your information from, but your
source doesn't seem to be reliable in any way.

If you are a dev then I take my harsh statements back. It looked to me
like you were getting on Thomas's case. If it's in-fighting between
equals then I won't get involved, go at it!

According your comment #35 the bug was fixed for you.

On my personal machine. But I've got a bunch of other users who have
various related corruption issues and I'd like to see it resolved. I'm
not even installing 9.04 on any more machines, and 8.10 couldn't be
installed either. Kubuntu 8.04 was not LTS so I won't install that soon-
to-be-outdated version, I have nothing to install.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-15 Thread dotancohen
If you actually want to get this bug fixed, then get someone to
figure out why the QPainter could become not active.

I requested on the KDE list that someone come over and take a look.

If you want to do something on your own, deinstall KDE4 python
bindings and check whether this fixes the corruptions or not

I can't at the moment, but lets see what the KDE folk say.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-14 Thread dotancohen
Maybe Jonathan Thomas could do something useful for a change and provide some
insight into how these things could be debugged?

Are you trying to piss him off by any way that you can? You are not a
developer, and you go around confirming and invalidating components, and
playing ping pong confirmed/invalid with a dev. Then you make a remark
like that?!? I personally am angry at you right now. I need this bug
fixed, and you are going to piss off the developer so that he leaves us
_both_ here to rot.

Go away. File a different bug, you have every right to as the dev
implies that your issue is not the same as the OP (yes, that's me). Piss
the devs off there. But let them do their work here and help those of us
who appreciate it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-13 Thread dotancohen
Actually, none of the panel elements survive corruption on my system.
Not even the Kmenu itself is safe, nor the desktop plasmoids.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-13 Thread dotancohen
Actually, with the KDE 4.2.4 PPA enabled the corruption went away. Now
that I've moved to KDE 4.3b2 the corruption has not returned. I think
that implies that this is a kde4libs issue indeed. I intend on checking
a Karmic alpha or early beta before closing, however.

I will, however, gladly check with your configuration. Tell me exactly
which plasmoids to configure.

2009-06-13 Thread dotancohen
There, fix released. It certainly seems to be a kde libs issue, and it
has been fixed.

@RK: Please upgrade to the 4.2.4 PPA as described here:
http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2.4

** Changed in: kde4libs (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Fix Released

@StephenKing:
Is your sidux install on KDE = 4.2.3? If so then please post a link to the
sidux bug, either here or directly to me in private mail, so that I can forward
this upstream to KDE. Thanks.

If this is a driver issue than why are Nvidia folks confirming, while I
(I am the OP) have an ATI card?
