[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1706936] Re: Wrong version of libgles1-mesa in Xenial-updates

2017-07-29 Thread Fabio Ticconi
I don't have a VLC ppa. I don't really understand what the problem is
here, but if it's not Ubuntu-related I'll figure something out. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1706936] [NEW] Wrong version of libgles1-mesa in Xenial-updates

2017-07-27 Thread Fabio Ticconi
Public bug reported:

Xenial-updates has the following packages:

- libgles1-mesa (12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1)
- libglapi-mesa (17.0.7-0ubuntu0.16.04.1)

The first one depends on libglapi-mesa (= 12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1), but
libglapi-mesa has a higher version and so there's a conflict.

I've had to remove libgles1-mesa for now, to avoid the conflict.

I have Linux Mint 18.1 but I believe it affects anyone using xenial-
updates.

Source links I used to verify it's a xenial-updates problem:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/libs/libgles1-mesa
https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/libglapi-mesa

2016-07-25 Thread Fabio
I'm not sure I can use the nvidia card without the nvidia drivers as
it's an optimus card. With just nouveau installed it works fine,
anyaway.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1580472] Re: No visible cursor after logging in

2016-07-21 Thread Fabio
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 ubuntu

** Description changed:

After logging in, the cursor is not drawn on the screen.

I can see it's effects while moving the mouse or touchpad, as items on
the panel gets highlighted, or my unity panel becomes visible. I can
even click on them and everything else just works, but I have to figure
  the cursor position.

  Workaround:
Move to vt1 (CTRL + ALT + F1), log in, and restart the lightdm server:
sudo service lightdm restart. Now log in again trough lightdm and cross your
fingers, as it doesn't always work, but most of the times does.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1580472] [NEW] No visible cursor after logging in

2016-05-11 Thread Fabio
Public bug reported:

After logging in, the cursor is not drawn on the screen.

I can see it's effects while moving the mouse or touchpad, as items on
the panel gets highlighted, or my unity panel becomes visible. I can
even click on them and everything else just works, but I have to figure
the cursor position.

Workaround:
Move to vt1 (CTRL + ALT + F1), log in, and restart the lightdm server:
sudo service lightdm restart. Now log in again trough lightdm and cross your
fingers, as it doesn't always work, but most of the times does.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1540157] Re: Xenial: Mouse pointer disappears after release upgrade

2016-03-10 Thread Fabio Marconi
This is actually affecting Xenial not too frequently on real hardware
installation.
I remember it is present at the start of the session and it disappear (pointer
reappear) as soon as I click the Logout written.
Never seen the pointer converted into a cross, only not drawn (invisible but
presents and working).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543745] Re: Xorg crash prevents login

2016-02-16 Thread Fabio
Sorry, I didn't want to make mess.
I think it has been in the update of the *2016-02-08*, I remember in that
update there was the linux-image-4.4. This seems correct as in the following
day I intalled xfce to log in and send the bug report.
This is the dpkg log of those days. I'm sorry that's still a massive update..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543745] Re: Xorg crash prevents login

2016-02-14 Thread Fabio
The problem happens even without acpi_osi= option. I'm now updating this
bug from an XFCE session, with which the problem doesn't happen. It
always happens when logging in on Unity. This behavior started to happen
only recently (about last week), after an update. Before that day it
worked even with nvidia drivers installed.

** Description changed:

After a recent update, it's no more possible to log in to Ubuntu 16.04
  trough lightdm with Unity.

I'm attaching .xsession-errors hoping it can be useful.

- I'm reporting this from another partition with Trusty, because I did'n
- know how to report without any GUI. I'm willing to add details if anyone
- helps me on how to send them from the CLI.
+ ***
+ Workaround:
+ remove all the nvidia drivers.
+ You won't have graphics accelerated but at
+ least you can log in on Unity.
+
+ sudo apt purge nvidia*

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543745] Re: Xorg crash prevents login

2016-02-14 Thread Fabio
I can also log in to Unity purging all the nvidia drivers. Note that my
laptop uses nvidia optimus, which caused some headaches even in the
past, so it could be related to that. Let me know what else to test or
ask me any other information that could be useful.

2016-02-09 Thread Fabio
** Description changed:

After a recent update, it's no more possible to log in to Ubuntu 16.04
- trough lightdm with Unity.
+ when using lightdm to access to Unity.

- I'm attaching .xsession-errors hoping it can be useful.
+ If I try to login lightdm disappears as if it was loading Unity, but
+ after a few seconds the login prompt appears again.

- I'm reporting this from another partition with Trusty, because I did'n
- know how to report without any GUI. I'm willing to add details if anyone
- helps me on how to send them from the CLI.
+ ### Workaround ###
+
+ Current workaround has been to purge all nvidia drivers, as nvidia-352
+ was installed.
+
+
+ The same driver (nvidia-352) works correctly in trusty, and until recently it
used to work even on xenial.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1543458] Re: Xorg crash prevents login

2016-02-09 Thread Fabio
The "Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0"" message suggests
it's indeed a problem with the GPU. I found that it could be caused by
bugs with nvidia drivers. This could be the case, as mine it's an
optimus laptop with NVIDIA GTX 850m.

scroll.

After having installed xserver-xorg-input-libinput middle button works
for scrolling (with track button). But I don't have the ability to tap-
to-click (only regular click makes a click).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1487553] Re: [Quadro FX 370] Compiz freezes entire desktop on Wily

2015-09-21 Thread Fabio Marconi
Hallo Carla
I had a talk with a nouveau dev. that tells me that the fail set domain error
is a sort of OOM specific to video cards and in this case the memory of the
card is few so it run out, but on the other hand he admitted that nouveau would
have to better handle it.
Then we keep valid the report but the fix will not be the nexts...
Please update the report if you still having problems with nvidia drivers too.
Best regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1487553] Re: Compiz freezes entire desktop on Wily

2015-09-15 Thread Fabio Marconi
Hallo Carla
well, I suggest to give a try to the latest propretary nvidia drivers and see
how the kernel works with them.
Then we will be able to understand if it is a linux or nouveau problem.
So go on in this way, remove the three packages of the kernel 4.2.0-996 via
synaptic (searching for linux they will be listed), once done reboot in the
stock kernel.
Install the propretary drivers via software & updates or if you are familiar
follow this guide to install the lastests released by nvidia:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaManual.
Remember to backup important things
Marking as affecting nouveau as I cannot see anything related to compiz in my
system so it is likely something hardware related.

Best regards

Fabio

The value to set for AreaBottomEdge can be chosen running
less /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i range
and checking the y value.
For example, in my laptop the value on y is about 1600 and I have set
AreaBottomEdge to 1400.

2015-04-19 Thread Fabio
If you're using 14.04.2 (utopic enablement stack), I have solved on
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-lts-utopic:

### Build the deb
apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-lts-utopic
apt-get source xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-lts-utopic
cd xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-lts-utopic

# if it asks for a missing file, write: src/synaptics.c (without quotes) and
press enter to confirm
dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -nc
cd .. #here there should be your debs ready to be installed

### Configure trackpad
sudo mkdir -p /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
sudo wget -q -O /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=drJKRmW8
