[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873895] Re: Regression: block staircase display with side-by-side monitors of different pixel widths
It happened to me as well on my lenovo ideapad laptop when I upgraded from Xubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, and my 1366x768 resolution ended all garbled. Then, after a while googling for solutions (which there wew so few!), I came up with a weird but functional workaround: I opened the display window, selected the 1366x768 resolution, rotation: inverted and reflection: horizontal and vertical, then applied. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574732] Re: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable
First of all, thank you for your fast response! It is amazing! Yes, there was a question about secure boot, but - just as other users who experienced the same problem - I was not aware about the significant change in the handling of secure boot and the consequences thereof. Formerly Ubuntu worked with secure boot enabled, hence I saw no reason to disable it. There was some explanation about 3rd-Party-modules on that dialog, yes, but because I do not use any other sources other than those provided by Ubuntu, I didn't feel concerned. Maybe the German translation is even more misleading (however I do not recall the exact wording of the dialog on upgrade), because the section in the control panel is called "Zusätzlich Treiber" and it mentions "Proprietäre Treiber" in the text in the control panel, but not 3rd Party Software, what I think was the term used on the upgrade dialog (though I am not quite sure about that). And since everything worked when I selected the older Kernel 4.2.0-35 I did not think about this at all any longer :-( and it took quite a while to figure out the reason of the problem... If those modules get signed automatically in the future, this will help a lot... Maybe meanwhile the Dialog on Upgrade could be made a little bit more clear about the problems and that those using nvidia drivers will not be able to log in after upgrade? I uninstalled nvidia, booted with secure boot enabled and installed nvidia again (using the control panel -> "Zusätzliche Treiber" = "additional drivers"), but there was no message about secure boot there. After reboot I couldn't log in again as expected. For me it is ok now that I know the reason. But I think a lot of people might run into severe troubles... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574732 Title: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shim/+bug/1574732/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574732] Re: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable
Thank you for this description. But it seems to be rather complicated for a normal desktop user, who has been locked out from his system after the upgrade to 16.04 (unity refuses to start without 3D-Acceleration!). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574732] Re: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable
The problem seems to be due to uefi secure boot option now checking also the keys of modules, which the nvidia driver obviously does not provide. Disabling secure boot solved the problem for me, but completely disabling it just because there is no signature for the nvidia driver seems to be a really bad option! Shouldn't there be an option to install signatures for third party drivers, that are supported (nvidia, virtualbox etc)? I think this bug rather affects the package 'shim'... ** Also affects: shim Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574732 Title: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shim/+bug/1574732/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I just upgraded to 16.04 and can't log in any longer with the latest (default) kernel 4.4.0-21. If i select an older kernel (4.2.0-35) everything works fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534403] [NEW] mouse pointer
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse UBUNTU RELEASE Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release:10.04 PACKAGE VERSION xserver-xorg-input-mouse: Installed: 1:1.5.0-1 Candidate: 1:1.5.0-1 Version table: *** 1:1.5.0-1 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status PROBLEM The system automatically logs in. By the time the desktop opens I expected the mouse pointer to be there. There was no mouse pointer but I was able to track the mouse by using the Ctrl key. If I right clicked the menu would come up. In fact all mouse buttons were working. There was just no mouse pointer visible but the mouse was there. The first time this happened I updated the system and the mouse pointer became visible. When I turned off the system and turned it on again the mouse pointer was not visible. I tried going on appearance and selecting a different pointer - no change. I opened terminal sudo apt-get update and the mouse pointer became visible again. This happened the second time I restarted as well. The only way I can get the mouse pointer to become visible is by opening the terminal and running the sudo apt-get update command. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522996] [NEW] Keys get stuck on Dell Studio 1535
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have a Dell Studio 1535 and I have problems with the keyboard. I've used Jaunty and now using Karmic, but I'm still experiencing problems. Sometimes when I type, a key randomly gets stuck and repeats, until I press a key again (it doesn't matter if I press the same key or any other key). I've also used Kubuntu and experienced the same there too. It's very hard to reproduce because it's random. I've also tried Windows Vista and Windows 7, but there were no issues there. Typing seems to be jagged compared to typing in Windows. Someone else already reported this issue on the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1352624 I hope that we can hunt down this little irritating bug :) Release: Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 I suspect that it's an xorg bug, but I'm not sure. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478693] Re: hdmi not working sony vgn fw230j
I've also got this bug. Sony vaio VGN-FW340D: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) Ubunto 9.10 Karmic 2.6.31-15-generic-pae #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 10 16:12:10 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux It seems that whenver you plug an HDMI cable from TV to computer it completely locks up the computer. No keyboard response, not even the Magic Sysrequest keys work. If the computer is rebooted or started from shutdown with the HDMI cable already plugged in, it works fine. Even if you boot with HDMI cable plugged, after you're done with the HDMI, if you unplug, it will completely lock the computer. I've found the only work-around is placing the computer in standby first, then plug in the HDMI cable, then wake from standby. Works fine. Unplugging the HDMI cable will also completely lock the computer unless you suspend computer first, then unplug HDMI cable, then wake from suspend, again. If there's a fix, I'd appreciate it. -- hdmi not working sony vgn fw230j https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/478693 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
