[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 290727] Re: sisfb is not automatically loaded with a SiS display adapter
More information, it's possible to load the module with these instructions: http://askubuntu.com/questions/705878/can-i-fix-my-corrupted-lubuntu-splash-screen-having-disabled-the-graphical-term Looking at /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf there is this comment: # Framebuffer drivers are generally buggy and poorly-supported, and cause # suspend failures, kernel panics and general mayhem. For this reason we # never load them automatically. So it seems that the reason this module does not load automatically is intentional. Now that the X.org driver for this chip has been removed and it relies completely on the framebuffer module, maybe it would make sense to look into slightly better support for the framebuffer modules? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-sis in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290727 Title: sisfb is not automatically loaded with a SiS display adapter To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-sis/+bug/290727/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 290727] Re: sisfb is not automatically loaded with a SiS display adapter
I still have this problem on Ubuntu 15.10. Note that this version does not contain the xserver-xorg-video-sis anymore, but it does contain the sisfb module. Now the vesafb driver is loaded now, but it does not seem to be a module. I tried to use the instructions from this thread to load sisfb instead plus updating the initramfs files, but it didn't work: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1423381 I think that the in-kernel vesafb prevents sisfb from loading or it's not properly added to the initramfs. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
That's the beauty with GNU/Linux distros, you have the power to choose my friend. As for me I'm still satisfied with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Maybe when 10.04.1 will be released I hope that most of the major bugs are already polished. It is easy to install, works flawlessly, and is based on later packages than Ubuntu. It appears that Ubuntu devs do not give a c**p about a critical bug in their distribution. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Guys, i just found a solution on how to end the random freezing problem in Ubuntu 10.04. I have tried disabling the Visual Effects a.k.a. Compiz by going to Preference - Appearance - Visual Effects, then check the None button. Thats how I did with my system and there are no more random freeze. The bad thing is that there are no more visual effects but I can live with the Metacity features in Gnome.
