[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1920665] Re: Ubiquity KDE crash on try/install and from live session with "malloc(): unaligned tcache chunk detected"
@Bob Your crash log confirms it is the same issue. It crashes the installer at the try/install stage (what you are reporting, and what results in the message you see) AND when the installer is manually launched from a live session. At the moment all anyone can do is wait for the result of the mesa uploaders git bisect, to find the commit/cause in the new mesa that landed in the release pocket @ around the 17th of March. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1920665 Title: Ubiquity KDE crash on try/install and from live session with "malloc(): unaligned tcache chunk detected" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1920665/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1920665] Re: Ubiquity crash on try/install and from live session with "malloc(): unaligned tcache chunk detected"
Some diagnosis as follows: - Loaded a previous snapshot of a Kubuntu 21.04 VM from before 16th March 2021. - Installed ubiquity. - Tested whether ubiquity launches. - Ubiquity launches. - Then looked at what was upgradable in the release pocket. - Sequentially upgraded likely culprits, rebooted, and tried to launch ubiquity after each small update. Result: Found that upgrading Mesa packages from 20.3.4-1 to 21.0.0-1 is all that is required to trigger the crash. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1749472] [NEW] mesa 18.0.0 will cause rendering errors in Qt applications
Public bug reported: From: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-66348 ** extract ** The `QOpenGLShaderProgram` class in Qt can be used to compile and link OpenGL shaders. If the `GL_ARB_get_program_binary` OpenGL extension is available, it can cache those shaders on disk (~/.cache/qtshadercache). The i965 driver in Mesa supports this extension since version 18.0.0. When the shader is loaded using the `glProgramBinary` function, OpenGL can refuse it if for example some hardware or software component changed. Mesa refuses binaries that were created by any other build of Mesa (using among other things the build_id of the library). If the shader is refused, Qt should fallback to compiling it from sources, but it incorrectly calls glLinkProgram first. The glLinkProgram succeeds, because it actually links 0 shaders together. That is allowed in OpenGL compatibility profile and the resulting program works as a fixed pipeline. Which of course does not render as expected. This causes rendering errors in Qt applications every time Mesa is updated since version 18.0.0. For example white screen in sddm. This issue was originally reported in openSUSE (https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1080578). ** end extract ** As this potentially effects Qt applications, and could even render display manager login unusable, this should be a blocking bug in mesa and Qt until Qt mitigations patches pass codereview and can be included in Qtbase for 18.04. ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: block-proposed ** Also affects: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags added: block-proposed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1749472 Title: mesa 18.0.0 will cause rendering errors in Qt applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1749472/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 979748] Re: VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no signal when “hot plugging”)
@penalvch I added the edgers PPA, performed a dist-upgrade, rebooted, and still have the same results: "hot plugging" the monitor after already booted without it has it show correctly in "Displays" but there is *no* signal sent to the monitor. Only upon reboot does it receive the signal correctly. Should the laptop boot with the monitor plugged in, then disconnect the monitor, then later re-connect the monitor, it will behave correctly. So, it is only when booting without the monitor connected that it will not receive the signal after later being connected. Again, I am happy to perform any debugging or provide any requested logs should you advise on what steps to take for you to get the information you need. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/979748 Title: VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no signal when “hot plugging”) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/979748/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 979748] Re: [expected] VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no “hot plugging”, no EDID)
I have downloaded and installed trusty 64 daily build (2013-01-07) on a real partition on the Toshiba Tecra M10 machine used to originally report this problem (so no variable to it being a VM or running from a LiveCD). When connecting an external monitor via VGA (after machine already running), "Displays" in System Settings now shows proper monitor identification, with the option to set correct resolution. From "Displays" it appears as if the monitor is "Active". However, no signal is detected by the external monitor, and it is "black". If I then restart (so machine boots with the monitor already connected), then all works as expected. Resolution is correct, and both the laptop display and the external monitor are "active". So, the external monitor seems to be identified corrrectly, but when "hot plugged" no signal is sent to the external monitor until a reboot. So, this main component of the original bug report remains unsolved. Please let me know what tests I can perform to provide any more information. ** Summary changed: - [expected] VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no “hot plugging”, no EDID) + [expected] VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no signal when “hot plugging”) ** Summary changed: - [expected] VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no signal when “hot plugging”) + VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no signal when “hot plugging”) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/979748 Title: VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no signal when “hot plugging”) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/979748/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173967] Re: fglrx and fglrx-updates not working (Ubuntu 13.04)
Same problem here. Xserver-xorg-video-intel is definitly the troublemaker for me. In discrete mode i can do whatever I want and even install the latet version of xserver-xorg-video-intel. Switching to high performance graphics kills the install (message about only low graphics mode available). Degrading the xserver-xorg-video-intel gets ubuntu back in the run. Naturally the system wants to re-install latest driver. I can't seem to fix that by using the lock driver functionality in synaptic like some blogs suggest. So when the system breaks again after an update i do have to demote the driver version. Now i have kicked out some ppa's out of my list and it seems to be pretty stable. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Let's say you have some windows open: 1 firefox, 1 Open Office, etc. After "empty trash" action, where the mouse move the window got focus with a sort of auto-focus on mouse hover. That can be stopped only clicking something. So, if one don't take care of this, while writing down a password or something else, can ends written elsewhere because of an involuntary mouse movement.
