[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936132] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in __fork()

2012-03-04 Thread tankdriver
The gdm as session manager workaround does not work for me in precise.
It still crashes when searching something.

Maybe Bug #943596 could be a Duplicate?

Here is a workaround to set the Brightness via shell:
~$ sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=75

be careful with low values, 00 is completely black.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 288913] Re: Intrepid RC: Nvidia 9500 GT selected settings wont work (wrong line in .nvidia-settings-rc )

2010-02-22 Thread tankdriver
I think this problem has something to do with my external display device.
(Samsung LCD TV)
If i connect my TV via HDMI to my Laptop (Nvidia) the same problem appears.
When I change the displaydevice, everything ok.
I will change the affected Package to nvida-glx-185 because I believe that the
driver does not detect the TV correctly.
My current Workaround is:
Disable Force Full GPU Scaling
Then all settings work as expected.

Update:
This bug is in karmic too ( nvidia 185.18.36-0ubuntu9 )
and i can reproduce this bug with a 9600M GT and the same montior too.

I think this could be a more or less monitor-specific problem.
(Samsung LCD TV)

I'll attach lspci -vvnn and the default .nvidia-settings-rc file from the
second affected Computer.
(workaround works)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436578] [NEW] X doesn't start automatically any more after installing restricted nvidia drivers

2009-09-25 Thread tankdriver
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu Karmic amd64 (daily-live 20090925 + updates) Gnome edition.
device: HP HDX 18-1080EG notebook (nvidia graphics)

After installing the recommended Hardware Drivers on my system, X does
not start automatically any more.

Steps to reproduce:
- install restricted driver (v185 recomended)
- reboot:
--grub starts
--usplash starts (white ubuntu-logo appears)
--screen black (blinking cursor on topleft)
--after 5 sec screen completely black... forever!

Workaround:
- press a (any) key
- login shell tty1 appears
- press CRL+ALT+F7
- X starts, Ubuntu writing progressbar appears
- loginscreen
- session successfully started

I recognized this problem last week.
And I found 1 other karmicuser on IRC having exactly the same bug (workaround
helped).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436578] Re: X doesn't start automatically any more after installing restricted nvidia drivers

2009-09-25 Thread tankdriver
@NaNo:
I found another workaround:
Can you please try to boot Karmic without the quiet splash boot options?
(Hold SHIFT at startup to get in GRUB, press E, delete the only the words
quiet and splash, and press CTL+X)
This worked for me.

Adding the package usplash, because when Its turned off, it works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381570] Re: compiz.real: segfault in libGLcore.so.180.53

2009-06-26 Thread tankdriver
I added the PPA and updated jaunty.
After ~6h of testing, I think ___this___ Bug is fixed. (nvidia-glx-180
185.18.14-0ubuntu1~xup~1~jaunty)
But now there are some new problems:
During playing games e.g. UrbanTerror or AssaultCube or Phun, the System
randomly hangs up completely (sometimes with and without flashing keyboard LED)
No log files.

I want back to jauntys default nvidia driver.
Is there a proper way to revert (downgrade) every changes caused by adding a
PPA __without__ force version on every single package???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381570] Re: compiz.real: segfault in libGLcore.so.180.53

2009-06-17 Thread tankdriver
This bug appears only in combination with the nvidia driver 185.18.14-0ubuntu1
from the ubuntu-x-swat PPA.
(I tried the latest driver version because I had some refresh problems. (Bug
#269904))
Now I found a workaround for this problem for the jaunty default nvidia
driver (180.44-0ubuntu1) and downgraded to 180.44.
The crashes are over. ;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

2009-06-14 Thread tankdriver
@hkais:
try the latest stable drivers from the ubuntu-x-swat team:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates
It should be better.
But be careful, the drivers are not as well tested as the default ones.
(I came across some crashes with this PPA and HP-HDX Notebook)
