[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436578] [NEW] X doesn't start automatically any more after installing restricted nvidia drivers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Ubuntu Karmic amd64 (daily-live 20090925 + updates) Gnome edition. device: HP HDX 18-1080EG notebook (nvidia graphics) After installing the recommended Hardware Drivers on my system, X does not start automatically any more. Steps to reproduce: - install restricted driver (v185 recomended) - reboot: --grub starts --usplash starts (white ubuntu-logo appears) --screen black (blinking cursor on topleft) --after 5 sec screen completely black... forever! Workaround: - press a (any) key - login shell tty1 appears - press CRL+ALT+F7 - X starts, Ubuntu writing progressbar appears - loginscreen - session successfully started I recognized this problem last week. And I found 1 other karmicuser on IRC having exactly the same bug (workaround helped). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 436578] Re: X doesn't start automatically any more after installing restricted nvidia drivers
@NaNo: I found another workaround: Can you please try to boot Karmic without the quiet splash boot options? (Hold SHIFT at startup to get in GRUB, press E, delete the only the words quiet and splash, and press CTL+X) This worked for me. Adding the package usplash, because when Its turned off, it works. ** Also affects: usplash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- X doesn't start automatically any more after installing restricted nvidia drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/436578 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381570] Re: compiz.real: segfault in libGLcore.so.180.53
I added the PPA and updated jaunty. After ~6h of testing, I think ___this___ Bug is fixed. (nvidia-glx-180 185.18.14-0ubuntu1~xup~1~jaunty) But now there are some new problems: During playing games e.g. UrbanTerror or AssaultCube or Phun, the System randomly hangs up completely (sometimes with and without flashing keyboard LED) No log files. I want back to jauntys default nvidia driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381570] Re: compiz.real: segfault in libGLcore.so.180.53
This bug appears only in combination with the nvidia driver 185.18.14-0ubuntu1 from the ubuntu-x-swat PPA. (I tried the latest driver version because I had some refresh problems. (Bug #269904)) Now I found a workaround for this problem for the jaunty default nvidia driver (180.44-0ubuntu1) and downgraded to 180.44. The crashes are over. ;-) -- compiz.real: segfault in libGLcore.so.180.53 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
