[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 918791] Re: qemu-kvm dies when using vmvga driver and unity in the guest
This bug still exists with Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS as host and Ubuntu Mate 14.04.01 in the VM. Using Mate in the VM with cirrus as video driver does work, but the screen resolution is limited to 1290x104 - insufficient for some graphics work. For vga it is even worse. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-vmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/918791 Title: qemu-kvm dies when using vmvga driver and unity in the guest To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/918791/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538275] Re: Nouveau not working with Modeline resolution in xorg.conf
I am actually having a similar problem, and judging from some forum discussions there seem to be a lot more people with that problem. Under Lucid with kernel 2.6.32-25-generic #43-Ubuntu I can successfully change the desired mode on my monitor to 1152x864 75Hz by having a modeline setting in my xorg.conf file (see at end). But as this kernel does not support my webcam, I tried 2.6.35-020635rc1-generic from the kernel mainline. While this one does support the webcam, my modeline setting is now ignored, and a resolution of 1280x1024 is set, but at only 60Hz. The flicker is not acceptable, The same 1280x1024 @60Hz setting comes up when I boot non-modified Maverick beta from a USB stick. xorg.conf file: Section Monitor Identifier Configured Monitor Vendorname ViewSonic Modelname ViewSonic G771 Horizsync 60-68 Vertrefresh 70-80 modeline 1152x...@75 108.0 1152 1216 1344 1600 864 865 868 900 +hsync +vsync Option PreferredMode 1152x...@75 Option DPMS EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor Device Configured Video Device DefaultDepth24 EndSection -- Nouveau not working with Modeline resolution in xorg.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533312] [NEW] [ubuntu karmic and lucid] unstable screen with intel video
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel The displayed screen on my monitor is typically shifted down by some 16pixels : e.g. on the desktop the bottom panel disappears by about half, and a black area of the same height appears at the top of the screen. This appears to be related to the intel video graphic, as the picture is unstable on two computers each using intel graphic and running different versions of ubuntu, while the picture is rockstable for days when the same monitor is used on computers with Nvidia card or AMD onboard graphic . The monitor is an IBM 14 (type 9514-B23) flat screen with native resolution of 1024x768. One of the problematic computers has the motherboard Intel D945GCLF2 (w. atom330). It is booted with either Karmic (default install) or Lucid (default install) as well as an install with the latest DRM as suggested by #13 in Bug #372575 (using https://edge.launchpad.net/~apw/+archive/red ). The other computer is a netbook Acer Aspire One 110L, running karmic (default install). The picture can be restored by switching the monitor off and on. It jumps back to the shifted screen after a time period ranging from 1 second to several minutes. It tends (but is not always so) to jump sooner when a faster refresh rate is selected ( 75Hz faster than 70Hz, faster than 60Hz). The monitor provides info about the video signal by its OSD; it says: @1024x768 and 75Hz H-Frequency: 60.18 kHz C-Frequency 75.23 Hz Sync Polarity H:+ V:+ The signal is the same before and after the jump. This identical signal is reported when the nvidia card is connected, but I never observed the jump with the nividia card. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [ubuntu karmic and lucid] unstable screen with intel video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413788] Re: [ubuntu karmic] intel-video finds correct screen size but sets it incorrectly
Geir, with your comment I realized that indeed there was a connection on TV1 to a TV, which was not only switched off but also unplugged from power for at least a month. I kind of dismissed the connection statement of xrandr as just another bug ... However, playing with the connect led to the discovery that VGA settings depend on TV connect status and sequence of steps, which I don't think is the intended behaviour. Also, there is a severe, reproducible crash of the xserver. I did various cold boots with two scenarios: either only VGA connected, or also the TV (via the s-video outlet of the motherboard), and attach camera-screenshots and dmesg and Xorg.0.log files. I did not do most of the things you had asked for, as I believe the sitation has changed, but if you need more/other please tell me. When booting, only the vga - even if the tv is connected - gets a signal, which seemingly at random fluctuates between 800x600, 720x400, 640x480, 640x400 settings, too fast to follow. At the point where the ubuntu logo with the progress bar appears, the signal switches to 1024x768. Up to here all is independent of whether only vga or also tv is connected. If tv is connected the same picture is visible also on the tv (see pic imgp2060.jpg). When the xserver starts the signals depend on what is connected. With both connected the resolution becomes 1152x900 (imgp2065.jpg), when only vga connected it remains 1024x768 (imgp2069.jg). This is kept into the desktop, whereby in the dual connect case xrandr pretends it is connected with 1024x768, while the monitor osd says otherwise (imgp2066.jpg). In the single connect case the two agree (imgp2071.jpg). Only the vertical refresh rates are correctly stated in both cases as 60Hz, or 75Hz, resp. When, in the dual case, I unplug the tv cable from the mb, nothing happens. But after a xrandr command the signals change and the vga now receives a 1024x768 signal (imgp2067.jpg). Note, however, that both the signal frequency and the polarities are different from the other 1024x768 signals! When I then re-insert the tv cable into the mb (nothing happens) and issue xrandr, then the xserver crashes. keyboard (PS/2 connected) and mouse (USB connected) are dead. I can ssh into the computer from another machines, and see xrandr and Xorg running. From remote I can kill xrandr, but Xorg resists all kill attempts. (Frame buffer allocation issue? see last line in Xorg.0.log-commented). The attached Xorg.0.log_commented is for the dual-screen scenario. I inserted comments (search for ullix) between the steps described above. The dmesg_commented is the matching dmesg file (no changes though due to the steps). Dmesg_vga-only and Xorg.0.log_vga-only are from the other scenario. Booting with only vga attached is unfortunately no solution. Beyond the xserver crashing, the desktop is shifted downwards by about half the height of the lower panel and makes it illegible, and a black space is inserted at the top (compare picture imgp2071 with 2066 or 2067). I can press the monitor OSD button, and it jumps up, only to jump down again after 5-50 sec. This IBM monitor worked perfectly well with older versions of Ubuntu. I noticed in both Xorg.0.log files that the xserver does 8 (!) rounds of determining the connected monitor hardware, every time with the same result as far as I can see. That can't be intended behaviour??? ** Attachment added: booting. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 413788] Re: [ubuntu karmic] intel-video finds correct screen size but sets it incorrectly
one more thing: I cold booted with both the VGA monitor (as before) plus now also a US TV-set are attached. The TV shows a clone of the vga in color (but in a horrible quality) and does seem to show the full desktop. During booting the vga monitor receives a 1024x768 signal, which is switching to 1152x900 probably with the start of the xserver. When switching to a terminal with CTRL-ALT-F1 the signal also changes to the correct 1024x768, and goes back to the wrong 1152x900 when switching back to the desktop. xrandr --verbose and Xorg.0.log attached. ** Attachment added: xrandr--verbose_w_ntsctv.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30965869/xrandr--verbose_w_ntsctv.txt -- [ubuntu karmic] intel-video finds correct screen size but sets it incorrectly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413788 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372575] Re: [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video
Hi Bryce, it has become a bit more complicated: after activation of a ppa repository, the blue screen is fixed on both systems, but a black screen showed up on one of them. The activated repository - the same on both - is : http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main The xorg.conf is also the same empty default - except that the zap option is enabled - on both. The system 2 (atom330) works flawlessly with both mythtv-frontend showing TV and totem playing an mpg videofile, even simultaneously. The lspci is attached as atom330_lspci_-vvnn.txt. The system 1 (aa1) also allows playing mpg with totem and mythtv- frontend does show a proper TV picture, but after a while (~ 5 to 20 min) the screen turns black while the sound continues. Restarting X via Ctrl-Alt-Backspace works as noticed by the login jingle, but no screen picture whatsoever. I can change to a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-F1 and text is shown. I can kill and restart X via commands, but then still the X-screen remains black. I tried reproducing the blue screen by forcing the original jaunty driver xserver-xorg-video-intel, but no blue screen while the same black screen. (maybe the libdrm* and libgl* files are actually the culprits?) Attached next are the lspci -vvnn output and the Xorg.0.log.old (with the black screen crash) and Xorg.0.log (after reboot) all from the aa1. By the way: on the aa1 everything is fine when running EasyPeasy 1.1 (~intrepid) and also when running karmic from an installation on a USB stick. On the latter I successfully ran two separate mythtv frontends simultaneously each showing a separate TV channel for several hours, and all via wlan! (but it can't find the mpg2 drivers for totem) ** Attachment added: atom330_lspci_-vvnn.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26946568/atom330_lspci_-vvnn.txt -- [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
