srinivas gowda, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . Affects me too for a years (!), upgrades and reinstallations doesn't help. Recently, I have changed my hard disk and it helps me, but after a few months bug was reproduced again. Ubuntu freezes after first log in and works good after hard restart. It's really annoying :( Maybe Ubuntu just crashes our HDDs? I have a similar problem: black screen directly after first boot, but then at the second, a puple screen appears and tells me that Ubuntu could not mount my harddrive. (Ubuntu is installed on a SSD). I then proceed without having it mounted and the harddrive then appears one minute later. This happens on every boot . Also, every time the computer enter sleep/idle mode (whatever it is called) it freezes. I have to force it to shut down, turn on it again, turn it off again (remeber: never succeed at first time), turn it on again, chooses to not mount harddrive, wait one minute and then I just have to open all projects. Another issue is that I can't turn off my computer from Ubuntu, but that might be another bug. I installed Ubuntu 7 days ago on a completely new computer (amd64) and I have reinstalled it 7 times already. (Yes I count). Goodbye Ubuntu, welcome Windows. Same problem here: black screen freeze after boot right before the login screen. Ctrl-Alt-F1... do not work. I am on 12.10 64-bit with Nvidia proprietary drivers, all recent updates installed. The problem started to appear a few days ago. The workaround is to login through ssh and do 'sudo killall plymouth'. When I switch the PC on it takes from 10 to 120 seconds until the complete system freezes. Nothing excepts the reset button works anymore, but after that everything works fine. If any other information or log files are needed please mention.
