[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1253068] Re: Constant GPU Lock-ups with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10
-- When installing Ubuntu Trusty from 5/Jan/2014 i386, the installation DVD booted and entered graphical screen however some texts were distorted, and the operation in progress mouse icon had garbage on it, but this didn't cause installation problems. -- After rebooting the login screen had a background pattern different from usual near username and password fields, when this happened in Ubuntu 13.10 it meant that the login operation would result in a GPU lock-up upon entering the X. However this time after login the screen became normal, using the nouveau driver. This was the first login. -- For next two uses in the following days the screen remained normal. -- Today I booted Ubuntu 13.10 and a GPU lock-up ocurred, then I rebooted the machine and started Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty daily build and the login screen had again that background pattern announcing a GPU lockup, and I couldn't enter text into the password field, so I choose guest and GPU lock-up ocurred, that resulted in the above report. -- I powered down the PC and started into Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty and I could login into X without further GPU lock-up. -- I'll keep tracking this issue the following days, namely see if a GPU lock-up appears a while after normal X usage, like in 13.10. In case further issues verify I'll be updating this Bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1253068 Title: Constant GPU Lock-ups with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1253068/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1253068] Re: Constant GPU Lock-ups with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10
-- Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty is already more stable (form GPU lock-up point of view) when compared to Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10. It is possible to use applications that normally trigger GPU lock-up quickly like Movies (Totem) and Firefox without observing such an issue although not extensively tested. -- I'll observe the system for a few more days to see if a GPU lock-up is triggered during normal use of 14.04, for now it only happened when rebooting from a GPU lock-up on 13.10 that also triggered a GPU lock-up on 14.04 across a reboot.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1253068] Re: Constant GPU Lock-ups with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10
Luis Mendes, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Thank you for your understanding.
