[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1585884] Re: xrandr unable to activate displays after docking
This happens to me when I undock a Lenovo laptop (Intel graphics card) and dock it again, in a docking station with two attached monitors. Rebooting is not necessary; simply logging out works around the issue. I assume that this is because the X.org server restarts.
