[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400920] Re: [i945] Displacement between Blender render window and content.

2009-07-28 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
The original issue - displaced render window is still present in
Karmic, but will be fixed once xorg-server is upgraded to 1.6.2 (which I
guess will happen soon).

Too many different problems are being itemized in this bug, some in one
version of the driver, some only in another.

I gather the original reported issue - displaced render window has
gone away, so I'm closing this bug as fixed. The subsequent bugs really
need their own bug reports.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400920] Re: [i945] Displacement between Blender render window and content.

2009-07-24 Thread eibriel
On Xorg-edgers LiveCD Blender have the same behavior you describe.
Menus don't render, but work (are invisibles).

Some artifacts appear on loading cursor, Vertical lines around them on a
little box (I asume the refresh area of cursor). Like when I set
i915.modeset=1 on Karmic boot.

I don't think that are a %100 blender problem. Others programs have
problems refreshing (Supertuxkart on Jaunty).

PD: An easy way I found to make blender usable on Intel graphics is runing:
LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 ./blender

Running Karmic Alpha2 LiveCD:

I upgrade xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-core-dbg, xserver-common,
xserver-xorg-video-intel Log out, Log in:
-No change.

I upgrade xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-core-dbg and xserver-common to the
version on the xorg-edgers PPA, Log out, Log in:
- Pressing F12 Blender locate properly the render on window.
- The menus work properly.
But:
- The interface become too slow (I make focus on a button, 2 seconds after the
button lightning.)
- The 3d window is freezed.

Then I upgrade xserver-xorg-video-intel to the version on the xorg-edgers PPA,
Log out, Log in:
- No changes on Blender, except 3d windows: the program only refresh the
avatars, don't the cube and background grid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400920] Re: [i945] Displacement between Blender render window and content.

2009-07-23 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
When you use the xorg-edgers PPA, it's usually best get all the packages
since there may be dependencies. For example, some fixes may need
updated libdrm2 and libdrm-intel1. Before, the way to test this with a
LiveCD was to use the script that automatically upgrades all packages
(see Testing with a live CD/media on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge). However, now it is even easier
as there is a LiveCD image with the packages already installed:
http://sarvatt.com/downloads/xorg-edgers-0.16-i386.iso (it is currently
a little behind, being updated July 7th).

I also checked the blender website, and it seems they don't care too much about
intel graphics. On the downloads page
(http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/) it says:
Users with Intel on-board graphics: some graphics operations (menus or border
select) don't show due to driver bug.
Also, all developers have Nvidia or ATI graphics.

2009-07-20 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
I upgraded xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-core-dbg and xserver-common
to the version on the xorg-edgers PPA. When pressing F12, the figure
rendered in its window instead of in the upper left corner of the
monitor. I guess it will do the same for you and the bug as originally
described should thereby be fixed when the updated xserver hits Karmic.

However, the menus didn't render at all, so blender is far from usable
with the updated packages. I also added the xorg-edgers PPA and apt-get
dist-upgrade'd so that I would have the latest version of all the
packages. The menus still didn't render. The interface also seemed quite
a bit slower.

Running LiveCD (Karmic alpha2), booting, adding Option DRI false to
the Device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf, Logging Out and Logging In
Blender works properly. :)

Setting i915.modeset=1 on boot command line return an error Unknown
command but apparently works (the fonts on prompt are small) , but
don't fix the problem. :( Actually some artifacts appear on cursor
(hiding and showing quickly).

Thank you for reporting this bug in the development version of ubuntu.
Could you run `apport-collect 400920` which will upload a bunch of
information about your system? If that fails, at least upload the output
of `lspci -vvnn`, `glxinfo` and the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log (do not
paste then into a comment, rather attath it as files).

Also, since blender 2.49a has not made it into official Karmic yet (it
will), which package are you using (there are at least two in PPAs and a
few different builds on the blender web page).

Btw, I'm also seeing this on a Thinkpad X61 Tablet with 965GM and fully

i.e. when I click them, the menu itself is renered relative to the
screen rather than relative to the window. Do you have this problem as

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400920] Re: [i945] Displacement between Blender render window and content.

2009-07-18 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
This seems to be related to the Direct Rendering Infrastructure (DRI). By
adding the line
  Option DRI false
to the Device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf this went away when KMS was
disabled (i.e running UMS). Alpha-2 has UMS by default, but the default has
later been changed to KMS (see
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-x/2009-June/000578.html). With KMS it
happens no matter what (but AFAIK KMS is part of DRI, so it doesn't make sense
to disable DRI with KMS enabled). Could you try the above line in xorg.conf and
verify that the problem goes away then? You may also try KMS by either adding
i915.modeset=1 at the LiveCD boot command line (F6 IIRC), or by trying a newer
daily-live from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ , but that may not be
necessary.

I wanted to test with the VESA driver as well, but it didn't work at all
with KMS (reported as bug 401214), but with UMS and VESA it went away.
