[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rytis, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2012-06-10 Thread Rybec Thalin Arethdar
This bug also affects 11.10 (Oneiric). Specifically, I get crashes
randomly during OpenGL screen savers, when Firefox is opened after a
manual logout from KDE (I am running Kubuntu), and occasionally at other
times. When this happens, my compositing is disabled automatically, and
the crashes become more frequent until I re-enable it. The screen saver
crashes tend to happen more often when compositing is enabled. The
Firefox crashes seem to happen less often when compositing is enabled
(actually, I don't recall Firefox causing crashes at all when
compositing is enabled).

I believe this install was clean.

The Firefox crash is identical to this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1882522, when compositing is disabled.

I've attached kdm.log. If any other log files would be useful, let me know and
I will include them as well.

 I notice the package drops a file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/skype.conf -

I wouldn't know what to check from here but maybe someone with the right

I dont think mine is a duplicate either as I dont thimk firefox is running

I went through a stage of thinking it was processor heat/overheating
graphics or similar, but it happened a couple of times quite quickly after

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2010-06-10 Thread James Sams
I don't think it is a duplicate. I've never had the crash occur while
browsing (though firefox is always open) and don't see a firefox core
dump or anything like that. I have intel hardware, not ATI. However, I
also cannot find a specific trigger, and it does look like it may be
caused by erroneous handling of a null pointer. Uploading the full
logfiles from each crash is kinda hopeless as they grow to be rather
large. I collect several files after each crash to examine, and the
folder of those files is about 700MiB per crash. Unfortunately, I cannot
trigger the crash, so getting a full gdb backtrace is going to be
difficult.

The backtrace I am finding in my Xorg.failsafe.log is:

 I don't think it is a duplicate [of 539772].

You are right, the Intel driver uses UXA and the 539772 was caused by a
null pointer in EXA code.

I have got KDE installed now (thanks to umbrello). But when I had this problem

It seems my problem is diffrent from yours though, since I see in the logs that
the wrong password has been entered on TTY2. That made my X-server reset or
something.

ok cheers Prophet.

Anybody else?

It seems my problem is diffrent from yours though, since I see in the logs
that the wrong password has been entered on TTY2. That made my X-server
 reset or something.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2010-06-05 Thread bigbrovar
I get X crashing on me now everyday. I have lost lots of works because
of this. Lucid is suppose to be an LTS(Support/Stable) or am I missing
something? The fact that such a critical bug is completely ignored (no
one is here to even guide us on how to better debug it, or confirm it,
or even asked for more information) does not inspire confidence at all.
I feel lots of people having this issue but not many people would think
of searching for a bug report for the problem. Its really frustrating
when one faces issues like this X randomly crashing without warning. I
could be giving a presentation and BOOM! all my works are lost.
Seriously Ubuntu can not be taken seriously when critical issues like
this are completely ignored. I am not even pissed because the issue is
not resolved. I am pissed because from the look of things no one seem to
give a heck.

2010-05-31 Thread Marsh
OK. I thought this was a KDM problem, but it's also when running GDM.
Had it hppen constantly - even if I restarted the machine - just wouldn't get
to that final working desktop before running a loop trying to start the xserver
(presumably)

ripped out the ~/.kde folder and was fine... for a while...

I just posted a thread at ubuntuforums.org (before I saw this) in case
anyone wants to follow whatever discussion results there:
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9300254 (that thread also
complains about the hundreds of thousands of lines of output from

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2010-05-17 Thread James Sams
I completely failed to look at kdm.log, there seems to be useful
information there, for someone who is familiar with what looks to be
kernel code, specifically an intel driver of some kind. I'm attaching my
kdm.log from a crash.

P.S. For future reference, is it preferred for me to post the whole log
like this or try to trim out some of the seemingly redundant
information?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2010-05-15 Thread Marsh
this is the output from .xsession-errors .xsession-errors.1 --- a clean
startup and one that shutdown. Dont know if that will help any. Sorry - am
just a user so am at a bit of an anxious loss until someone can hold my hand
a little :/

On 14 May 2010 21:54, James Sams sams.ja...@gmail.com wrote:

I'm getting a similar error in an upgraded kubuntu (from 9.10 to 10.04)

 remaining.
kxkb: Fatal IO error: client killed

kdeinit4: Fatal IO error: client killed
 kdeinit4: sending SIGHUP to children.

(followed by 150+ lines of application crashes, see attached
 xsession-errors for the full output).

I just posted a thread at ubuntuforums.org (before I saw this) in case
anyone wants to follow whatever discussion results there:
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9300254 (that thread also
complains about the hundreds of thousands of lines of output from
kmail/kontact and amarok that are needlessly being thrown into
xsession-errors, which is probably not relevant to the crashing).

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xorg

After upgrade to Lucid, the X server started to crash, however I fail to
detect any pattern. It can occur only after hours of use or quite soon after
logging in, thus I guess it's pretty random.

After the crash, the screen blinks (with black screen and terminal output)
for a few times and then GDM restarts and I'm able to log back in.

Please note that I'm not using a standard Ubuntu kernel due to a problem
I've had since Karmic: in that case, X wouldn't even start. However, even
with a modified kernel, I experienced no problems while using Karmic.

A sample output of .xsession following the crash :

 (gnome-terminal:1799): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_accel_map_unlock_path:
 assertion `entry != NULL  entry-lock_count  0' failed
gnome-session[965]: WARNING: Detected that screensaver has left the bus
gnome-settings-daemon: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable)
 on X server :0.0.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly

2010-05-13 Thread Amorphous
Think I have the same bug. Difference is I'm running Kubuntu.
clean install.
this is the tail end of Xorg.0.log after i've been logged out (xorg crashed)
After that I get a text prompt until i restart the machine.
startx will try to start but flashes a few times and fails with the Error
setting CPU to domain 3 error shown in 'startx output'
both logs tend to point to Xorg so I will also inform them.
I'm a user, so apologise if my info isn't up to much yet, but am hopefull i can
learn as much as poss through my experiences here ;)

thanks,
Martin
