I'm getting this error as well. I'm trying to run a game on DOSBOX and if I switch it to fullscreen the X hangs, leaving me the only option to force a reboot via tty (ctrl+alt+f1), because even a kill -9 on the dosbox process doesn't restore the screen. Dosbox wasn't upgraded when I upgraded from Maverick to Natty and I never had this problem in Maverick. To get this problem, Dosbox must be started in windowed mode. That is, you must not use the -fullscreen flag and the fullscreen setting in the sdl part of dosbox.conf must be set to false. If Dosbox is started in windowed mode, I am able to change between windowed and fullscreen modes whenever I want. If Dosbox is started in windowed mode, the resolution is set to the one used by Dosbox, but instead of seeing Dosbox, I see the upper left part of what I used to see. Pressing Alt-Enter to go back to windowed mode does change the resultion, but the image is frozen. When I move the mouse, the mouse cursor moves, but nothing else happens regardless of what I do. Ctrl-Alt-Enter does not restart X. Ctrl-Alt-F1 works, so I can reboot from TTY.
