I don't know, I might suspect that the problem is the intel driver.
I will now install everything except it.
Do you know if I'll be able to rollback the package versions?

I upgraded everything bug the intel driver.
It's still working, so it must be really caused by it

2009-08-29 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
I'm afraid I was wrong. It's suddenly in again, without installing the
new intel driver.
CPU is at 70% now (gnome-system-monitor 55%, xorg 10% + other processes)

I can't understand what I did to trigger the bug :(

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 420600] Re: xorg eats up all my CPU

2009-08-28 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Thanks for answering. My card is intel x4500hd and my xorg.conf is the
default one (I'm not on linux now)

What's interesting is that even the live session from the daily live
cd has the same problem, while alpha 4 has not.
Another interesting thing is that xorg is not the only process which
eats cpu, but almost every process (with a non trivial logic of
course) are using lots of cpu.

What I'm doing now is this: test yesterday daily live cd and see if it
works, then I will post the packages that ubuntu wants to upgrade.

2009-08-28 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
I'm trying to hisolate more the problem. I installed those packages
which I was not suspicious about.
And now I left those to upgrade. The problem has not yet been come up,
so it might be in one of those upgrades:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  smartdimmer
The following packages will be upgraded:
  apparmor apparmor-utils hal libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx
libglu1-mesa libhal-storage1 libhal1 mesa-utils nvidia-185-modaliases
xserver-common xserver-xorg-core
  xserver-xorg-video-intel
13 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
