Title:
usx2yloader fails - wrong path to firmware

Status in alsa-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I'm having trouble with a tascam US-122. In raring, it worked fine,
but on upgrading to saucy, I ran into problems. First of all, the
firmware is no longer available, since medibuntu no longer exists. I
installed the package from alsa-project.org manually though, and made
  a symlink from /usr/local/share/alsa/firmware/ to
/usr/share/alsa/firmware/, since that's where the old package
  installed the files.

Then when I plug the device in, it seems to load the initial firmware
just fine - the syslog shows that it detected the 2nd device and ran
the tascam_fpga script. However, the usx2yloader program fails.

When I run it manually, (usx2yloader -c 1) I get the following error
message: usx2yloader: cannot open the index file
  /lib/firmware/usx2yloader/us122.conf

Of course, that's not where the us122.conf file is located, but that
path seems hardcoded in usx2yloader. When I made a symlink from sudo
  ln -s /usr/local/share/alsa/firmware/usx2yloader/ to /lib/firmware/,
it seems to load the firmware just fine.

I think the issue is with the path hardcoded into the utility. it
  should be changed to
  /usr/local/share/alsa/firmware/usx2yloader/us122.conf, since that's
where the old package expected the file to be.

In 0.91 the z-order information in svg is used to create multipage
PDF+LaTeX documents as per bug 771957. However, for the SVGs I have
been converting to PDF+LaTeX in this way, the TeX-file instructs to
load more pages than the PDF has, for example the PDF has only three
pages and the TeX file also includes page=4. This basically breaks the
PDF+LaTeX export for me and I have to use EPS+LaTeX + epstopdf
  package.

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1710270] Re: New release 0.26.3

2017-09-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package shotwell - 0.26.3-1ubuntu1

---
shotwell (0.26.3-1ubuntu1) artful; urgency=medium

  * Sync with Debian git packaging (LP: #1710270). Remaining changes:
- debian/control, debian/rules:
  + Build-depend on and run dh-translations
  + Build with Unity support.
  + Build-Depends on libunity-dev.
+ Build with scour for SVG optimization.
  + Build-Depends on python-scour.
- clean out thumbnailer hacks, that's not user friendly and not
something that should be recommended doing
- Don't clutter up debian/ with old, disabled patches
  * Drop Ubuntu's autopkgtest since the required umockdev data hasn't been
updated for 5 months.
  * Fix Breaks/Replaces for file move
  * Add 0001-appstream.patch and modify shotwell.install:
- Fix install of appstream metadata

shotwell (0.26.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release (Closes: #855681, Closes: #841859).
- debian/control: Add new appstream-util, libappstream-glib-dev and
  libgdata-dev to Build-Depends.
- debian/shotwell.install: Drop now empty directory usr/share/appdata.
  * New README.source to explain the branching model used.
  * Use the automatic debug symbol packages:
- Remove shotwell-dbg section from debian/control.
- Remove override_dh_strip, override_dh_compress and some lines
  on dh_install from debian/rules.
- Remove debian/shotwell-dbg.README.Debian.
  * Use the upstream ChangeLog as changelog and add NEWS to docs.
  * Remove debian/shotwell.1 to use the upstream man page.
  * Don't install man page at shotwell-common.
  * Remove unnecessary debian/menu.
  * Some packaging improvements (Closes:# 856708):
- Move .desktop and appstream metadata from shotwell-common to shotwell.
- debian/rules:
  + Use dh_auto_configure instead of ./configure.
+ Update rm paths for multiarch.
  + Don't install the .a file either.
- Remove build-depend m4 since debhelper version 10 use autoconf.
- Thanks to Jeremy Bicha
  * debian/watch:
Rewrite to find only stable releases.
  * Declare compliance with Debian Policy 4.0.0. (No changes needed).

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1722076] [NEW] DejaVu Oblique variants not installed by default

2017-10-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, new install (well, as of a few months ago),
italic/oblique variants just weren't installed by default. In some
programs this resulted in text not showing, in others it resulted in
those square boxes that indicate no font installed showing. The issue is
in fonts-dejavu-extra which apparently doesn't exist in Ubuntu, so I've
selected I don't know, even though I have a damn good idea.

The only way to fix this that I quickly found is to install the
"transitional dummy package" that "can be safely removed" ttf-dejavu-
extra. With this package installed, all the variants of DejaVu are
installed. With it removed, the problem occurs.

This package installs the extra font DejaVuSans-Oblique.ttf: "DejaVu
Sans" "Oblique".

I present the output of some commands to demonstrate the issue:

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 16.04 Noto Sans CJK is the default font for rendering
Chinese. After having struggled with a few issues, I believe that we
finally achieved the desired improvement of the rendering experience.

So now I ask: Is there an interest from Japanese and Korean users to
consider a switch to Noto Sans? (The fonts are already installed for
  all users on Ubuntu 16.04.)

(Two targets, one continuously reachable under host:port, one went offline

Returning to the PC I found 4 sftp.so processes consuming 50% of a CPU core
each.
They continued to do so after the folders in Dolphin were closed, and even
after Dolphin itself was closed.
  They responded to SIGTERM.

This is strace output from 1 of the processes, the same which apport
  was used on:

  ppoll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}], 1, {tv_sec=0, tv_nsec=100}, NULL, 8) = 0

4 sftp.so processes using 200% CPU of my quad core, consuming energy and
shortening the lifespan of my system.

Feel free to contact me with questions, I can try to reproduces the problem.
Also I will leave one of the processes suspended for 1-3 days after filing
this report, so I can send a SIGCONT and give further information on it if
requested.

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1773561] [NEW] Xenial/16.04: GIMP needs a security update - unfixed issues (CVE-2017-*).

2018-05-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello.

GIMP package ('Universe/Security' section), available in "Xenial"/16.04
LTS Release, contains unfixed security issues and is vulnerable to, for
example, heap-buffer over-read, out of bounds read and stack-based
buffer over-read etc. The whole this is pretty strange, because Ubuntu
Releases released before and after "Xenial", contains updated GIMP
version!

Anyway, it looks this way: in "Trusty" the available version is:
'2.8.10-0ubuntu1.2' (please see [1]). "Bionic" has '2.8.20-1.1' version
(please see [2]). Both Releases contains fixes for mentioned security
issues: CVE-2017-* etc. However, GIMP version in "Xenial" is
'2.8.16-1ubuntu1.1' and does not contain any security updates from 2017.
(The last one is from Thu, 30 Jun 2016.; please see [3]).

Security updates with fixes for mentioned CVE's (please compare changes
in 1. and 2. with 3.) were released on Thu., 18 Jan 2018 - for "Trusty"
and Tue., 26 Dec 2017 - for "Bionic". In "Xenial", the last security
update is from Thu., 30 Jun 2016 (fix for CVE-2016-4994) and there is no
further updates!

Here is a CVE list, which are not fixed in "Xenial", but in "Trusty" and
"Bionic" only:

1/ CVE-2017-17786: Out of bounds read
2/ CVE-2017-17789: Heap-based buffer overflow in read_channel_data
3/ CVE-2017-17784: Heap-buffer over-read in load_image file-gbr.c
4/ CVE-2017-17787: Heap-based buffer over-read in read_creator_block
5/ CVE-2017-17785: Heap-based buffer overflow in fli_read_brun function
6/ CVE-2017-17788: Stack-based buffer over-read in xcf_load_stream

I wanted to send an email an email to Mr Marc Deslauriers, because he
made the last security update for GIMP in "Xenial" (fix for
CVE-2016-4994). But I decided to report a bug on Launchpad. I hope that
it's an acceptable way. If not, I'm sorry.

By the way: similar problems with unfixed security issues, can be found
e.g. in Audacious and Parole packages. But that's a different story,
completely different story...

Thanks, best regards.

  Inkscape freezes when selecting font

Status in Inkscape:
  Incomplete
Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
If you perform the following steps, Inkscape freezes. It's a
showstopper of using Inkscape at all with fonts.

  1. Launch Inkscape.
  2. On the new document, click the A on the left toolbar to create a new
textbox.
  3. Drag a marquee in your document for the size of your textbox.
  4. Type the text "This is a test" and then choose Select All to select it all.
  5. Click the T in the top toolbar to open the Text and Font control panel.
  6. Choose DejaVu Sans.
  7. Put another window on top of the current window, such as switch to a web
browser.
  8. Come back to Inkscape -- it won't repaint the window because it's frozen.

Alternatively, you can also recreate the bug this way too:

  7. Set the font size to 48 from the Font Size: selector on that control
panel. You'll notice that the dropdown occurs, when you select it, Inkscape
freezes.

Note that I'm running Inkscape 0.91 on Lubuntu Desktop 16.04 inside
Oracle Virtualbox version 5.0.26 r108824 on a Mac Air 13" running OSX
10.12 (Sierra) and have loaded the Virtualbox extensions. Note that I
also tried the following things to see if they fixed the problem:

  - full apt-get update; apt-get upgrade; apt-get dist-upgrade, reboot,
  and tried that again

  - apt purge fonts-noto-cjk

  - tried briefly the latest stable PPA of Inkscape from Inkscape.org in
my apt, and upgrade to the latest Inkscape -- that failed, so I did a
purge remove of that version of inkscape, removed the PPA, redid my
apt-get update, and installed the version that comes with Ubuntu 16.04
  (Inkscape 0.91).

  - unset GTK_IM_MODULE && inkscape

All failed to show any fix.

All failed to show any different result.

Bug description:
When Liberation font is selected in Firefox 59 and Chromium 65, the
highlight does not cover the top part of the text. On Chromium it
affects the first line of a paragraph, on Firefox it affects every
  line.

This is a regression in 1:1.07.4-5, rolling back to the previous
version (1:1.07.4-2) restores the correct behavior.

The same font in gedit, libreoffice and terminal does not have this
problem, however since both browsers are affected and other fonts
highlight normally it suggests the fault lies with the font.

Text tool is counterintuitive beyond unusability

Status in Inkscape:

Status in inkscape package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I click on the "A" on the left panel in order to create text.
I click on the "T" on the right panel so that text properties such as font
face, size, alignment and the like show up.
I select "Dejavu Sans Mono", "bold" and centered.
I draw a rectangle in the document to create the area for writing text.

At this point all the text properties I had set are forgotten, and go
back to Sans, normal, and left-aligned. Plus black is now selected as
the fill color despite I had selected white like a dozen times before.
  So I select white again.

So, while the text rectangle is there and the cursor is blinking, I go
to the "Text and Font" window which is still open, and I select Dejavu
Sans Mono, bold and centered AGAIN.

  I click Apply.

Now finally I can write my text and it preserves the properties.

Now I draw another text rectangle somwhere else. Fuck, it has again
all the default values for everything. I set them right. NOTE that you
must remember to do this AFTER you have drawn the text area rectangle
and while it is selected, not before, otherwise it will be useless.

Now I want to move and resize a little bit the former text area. So I click
within it, that selects it. Fine. But I only see a small diamond on the lower
right corner, not on the top-left, so i can only resize from that end. I can't
seem to be able to move the textbox.
After trying clicking here and there, I find out that by clicking on the
diamond on the bottom right corner, a square appears on the top-left too, so I
do can move it and resize it as expected; took a while to figure out, though.

All this process is painful. Compare this to doing the same task in GIMP, for
example, that's waay easier and more intuitive. And note that GIMP is far
from being a brilliant example of usability.

jump to song window is in the 'window buttons' panel in the workspace that
audacious is in but NOT in the workspace that the 'jump to song' window is
actually in.

so for example if you have a few dozen windows open in your current
workspace, and alt-tab away from the 'jump to window' you have to
minimize all of your other windows to see it since you can't easily
'alt tab' back to it (and it's not obvious which workspace you would
have to go to find it)

What sometimes happens is that it *does* show up in the list, but alt
tabbing between it and the other windows that are open on that
workspace makes it disappear from that list within a couple of alt-
  tabs.

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1725418] [NEW] libpoppler64 uninstallable on Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark)

2017-10-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I try to install Inkscape (v0.92) on my Ubuntu 17.10 OS, it fails
as libpoppler64 is not available for this Ubuntu version.

$ sudo apt install inkscape
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
inkscape : Depends: libpoppler64 (>= 0.48.0) but it is not installable
Recommends: libwmf-bin
Recommends: perlmagick
Recommends: python-lxml but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: python-numpy but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: python-scour but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: python-uniconvertor but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

The libpoppler64 package has been replaced by the libpoppler68 package
(https://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/libpoppler68) on Ubuntu 17.10.

A suggested fix would be to install libpoppler68, and if that is
unavailable, use libpoppler64.

Lyx chokes on all bibtex bibliography insertions

Status in lyx package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: lyx

I found after inserting a bibliography file into an IEEE template,
that my document was unable to export to PDF any longer.

I discovered that the same error existed regardless of the actual
bibliography entry. My edits have all been done through the LyX menus,
and in particular the edit which breaks the document export is
  inserted through Insert=>List/Doc=>BibTex Bibliography

I have tried removing each entry from my bibliography file in turn to
see what the problem was. I ended up with an empty bibliography file.
I tried using the 'test' bibliography file provided with LyX. They all
  lead to the same error.

  TeX reports...

  LaTeX Error: Something's wrong--perhaps a missing \item.
  LaTeX Error: Something's wrong--perhaps a missing \item.
TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=150].

...against apparently this line according to the two error reports...

   \begin{thebibliography}{}

  Try typingto proceed.
If that doesn't work, type X to quit.

   \begin{thebibliography}{}

If you really absolutely need more capacity,
you can ask a wizard to enlarge me.

function(including the desktop) and hover text still appears. The main
problem is that click events cease to register on the toolbar.

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1757659] [NEW] Please port your package away from Qt 4

2018-07-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Currently Qt 4 has been dead upstream and we are starting to have
problems maintaining it, like for example in the OpenSSL 1.1 support
case.

Following in the footsteps of Debian[1], all packages directly or
indirectly depending on qt4-x11 (like this one) must either get ported
to Qt 5 and uploaded to the development release or get removed (by means
of demotion to -proposed or removal of the package) before the 19.04
release. If it is possible to port your package by the 18.10 release,
please do so.

If you have any questions about porting or this transition, please ask
in #ubuntu-qt (preferred) or directly ping me

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1630342] [NEW] Tidy up the installed themes?

2018-08-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

For Yakkety we have added a dependency on the Numix theme and set the
Numix Blue as default. It seems that the Greybird theme (part of murrine
themes?) is still seeded by ubuntustudio-look. There may also be other
themes pulled in by our syncing of Xubuntu changes.

As users can install any theme they wish instead of our chosen default,
do we need to install (seed) these other themes? Should we drop them?

Rationale: In Oneiric we want to introduce ICC-based color management
on the operating system level, using the same architecture as Fedora
does. argyll (support for color calibration) and libicc2 (ICC handling
library) are part of this architecture. Therefore we need them in
Main. This MIR is a work item of the following Blueprint:

  https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-icc-color-
  management

According to the Blueprint additional demand on CD space for the whole
introduction of color management is around 300K only.

Security: No security vulnerabilities known at CVE and Secunia for the
current version (1.3.3), vulnerabilities of older versions are all
fixed, no SUID components, no daemons.

Quality assurance: Installs without debconf questions. The package is
maintained upstream as new releases occur regularly and they get
packaged for Debian by Roland Mas (see debian/changelog).

UI standards: The package are a library and command line utilities.
The complete upstream documentation is available in
/usr/share/doc/argyll/. Each command shows a help page by calling it
  without parameters.

Dependencies: Depends only on standard libraries for X and images.
  They are all in Main.

  Maintenance: See "Quality assurance".

Blender 3D Modeler is missing 2/3 the "System tab" panel options
regarding to OpenGL, localization, font overrides, translations, lamp
directions and options to use custom colors for bone weights.

Since 18.04 beta 1 and 2, I have been comparing the blender 2.79b
present at the 18.04LTS obtained via apt-get to the one downloaded
directly from Blender Foundation. If you install Blender from apt-get
first, and then download and extract Blender from Blender Foundation
in any folder, running the software you can go to the "User
preference" options using CTRL U, and navigate to the "System tab"
  options.

Now, compare the system tab of both. 2/3 of the options are missing in
  the default apt-get (*)ubuntu install.

Many thanks for fixing this !

Status in fonts-liberation2 package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

fonts-liberation and fonts-liberation2 in bionic have skewed font metrics.
This is causing visible formatting issues in any program rendering text using
those fonts, most notably libreoffice (recent versions fail to build because
some unit tests that check the rendered layout fail).
This was fixed in debian and synced in cosmic
(https://salsa.debian.org/fonts-team/fonts-liberation/blob/master/debian/patches/unset_OS2_UseTypoMetrics.patch).

Backporting to bionic is a prerequisite to backporting a recent
version of libreoffice (6.0.6, bug #1785679).

  [Test Case]

See original description (at the bottom of the description) for
example text documents and their expected layout when opened in
  libreoffice.

A good test case is whether libreoffice 6.0.6 builds successfully (all
unit tests pass - some unit tests exercise text layout and they fail
with the broken version of fonts-liberation2).

  [Regression Potential]

Rendering of text across a variety of programs (especially word
processors and web browsers) should be checked to ensure that this
  doesn't introduce regressions.

  [Other Info]

This is backported straight from Debian, no Ubuntu-specific
  modifications.

  [Original description]

Ubuntu/Xubuntu 18.04 package includes fonts "Liberation Sans" (etc
"Liberation") with sligtly shrinked font metrics. This issue leads to
all office documents typed in Liberation Sans fonts have corrupted
formatting in Ubuntu 18.04 (but these documents correctly opened in
other OS's, for example Ubuntu 17.10). Documents with corrupted
formatting can not print properly: all paragraphs are shifted up,
embedded tables in text - splitted on page breaks. Document
circulation in system based on Ubuntu 18.04 operating systems
temporarily paralized, because Liberation fonts are basic fonts for
  open-source document circulation.

In attachment I have type a example office document with 2 pages and
enumerated strings. On normal ordinary conditions this document have
54 strings on first page and 54 string on second page. But if this
document open in Ubuntu 18.04, it's found than 5 strings from second
page moves to first page. Compare font versions embedded with Ubuntu
packages we can see that versions are different (sudo apr search
  fonts-liberation* command):

  Ubuntu 17.10 - 1:1.07.4-2, 2.00.1-3
  Ubuntu 18.04 - 1:1.07.4-5, 2.00.1-5

I have create a bug 117411 "Font metrics slightly changed after update
  OS to Ubuntu 18.04", see
  https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117411, but I
think that this bug concerns a Ubuntu/Xubuntu 18.04 package.

[Ubuntustudio-bugs] [Bug 1787359] Re: Update to 1.1.6

2018-08-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package alsa-utils - 1.1.6-1ubuntu1

---
alsa-utils (1.1.6-1ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * Resynchronize on Debian (lp: #1787359), remaining changes:
- Move init script volume settings to new alsactl database:
+ Set sane level for 'Speaker' and 'Headphone', needed for Dell Mini 9
and Dell E series
+ ute PC Beep on hda cards that support it during initial volume setup
+ Mute *Analog/Digital Control for Creative cards by default
+ Default Digital Input Source to be Digital Mic 1 so that users
with digital mic will be able to use it out of the box
+ Mute "IEC958 Optical Raw" by default
+ Set sane level for headphone 1 for Dell Studio XPS with 2.6.30
+ Prefer built-in digital mics on newer Dells
+ Unmute 'Line HP Swap' for Dove boards
+ Set reasonable volume levels for VMWare guests using snd.ens1371
- debian/README.init.cs4236: Include in /usr/share/doc/alsa-utils so that
users of snd-cs4236 (e.g., ThinkPad 600) can have audible sound
- debian/patches/unset_pulse_internal.patch: We don't want alsamixer to
show the pulse mixer by default, since it can be controlled from
  pulseaudio itself
- Add udev rule to apply UCM profiles for panda and equivalent hardware
- Add Vcs-Bzr field
- Put the daemon file in /var/lib/alsa
- Create /run/alsa directory so that systemd services don't fail
  *

alsa-utils (1.1.6-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Elimar Riesebieter ]
  * Add missing alsaucm manpage. The respective alsaucm.rst file is missing in
the source tarball. The file is replaced by a patch for now. Should be
fixed in next alsa-utils release. Thanks Antonio Ospite for the patch.
[closes: 852299]
  * Added python-docutils to Build-Depends. It is needed to build the alsaucm
manpage.

  [ Jordi Mallach ]
  * New upstream release.
  * Update Vcs-* fields to reflect conversion to Git and move to
salsa.d.o.
  * Add debian/gbp.conf with current git repo layout options.
  * Update to debhelper compat v11.
  * Switch from dh_install --list-missing to dh_missing --list-missing.
  * Correct several typos in debian/copyright.
  * Drop alsaucm manpage patch, included upstream.
  * Update to Standards-Version 4.1.4.
  * Drop obsolete systemd_standardoutput.patch, and refresh the rest.
  * Temporarily Build-Depend on systemd while detection in configure is fixed.
  * Fix typo in patch description (lintian).

  Ubuntu 18.04 LTS - Shotwell 028.2

The Shotwell slideshow opens and works with some pre-defined settings.

When I try to access the slideshow settings, the monitor freezes but I
can unfreeze the display by pressing the Esc key.

I opened shotwell via the terminal and extracted this comment:-

  (shotwell:6518): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 10:37:09.819: Error building
template class 'SlideshowPageSettingsDialog' for an instance of type
'SlideshowPageSettingsDialog': .:20:1 Parsed template definition for
  type 'SettingsDialog', expected type 'SlideshowPageSettingsDialog'

Sometimes getting the attached error message from GIMP that there is

Bitstream Vera Sans Mono: Combining diacritics out of place

Status in ttf-bitstream-vera package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In the Bitstream Vera Sans Mono font, combining diacritical marks are
drawn over the following character rather than the preceding.

According to the Unicode standard since at least version 3.0, chapter
3.6, verse D56, combining characters apply to the preceding base
character. However, this font renders them on the following base
  character.

  Version info:
  Ubuntu Intrepid
  ttf-bitstream-vera 1.10-7

  To reproduce:
  1. Open gedit.
  2. Type the following three code points: U+0061 U+0301 U+0065 (Latin small
letter a, Combining acute accent, Latin small letter e).
  3. Via Edit|Preferences|Font & Colors|Font, select the Bitstream Vera Sans
Mono font.

  Expected:
  * Two grapheme clusters are displayed: Latin small letter a with acute
accent, Latin small letter e.

  Observed:
  * The grapheme clusters displayed are: Latin small letter a, Latin small
letter e with acute accent.
