[uClinux-dev] [ANNOUNCE] uClinux-dist-20070130 release

2007-02-01 Thread Greg Ungerer

Hi All,

I have generated a uClinux-dist-20070130 release. You can get it
from the usual place:

http://www.uclinux.org/pub/uClinux/dist/uClinux-dist-20070130.tar.gz
http://www.uclinux.org/pub/uClinux/dist/uClinux-dist-20070130.tar.bz2

The uClinux-dist CVS, at cvs.uclinux.org, has been updated as well.

It contains:

. linux-2.6.19-uc0
. linux-2.4.32-uc0
. linux-2.0.39-uc2
. uClibc-0.9.27
. _lots_ of other application packages (as usual :-)
. _many_ new targets as well

Regards
Greg

The link to the .bz2 archive on the website appears to be malformed.
And they're both slightly different addresses to the above anyway

Seems faster. I just downloading the .bz2 image in just over an hour --
instead of about a day and a half, which is what the old server seemed

Re: [uClinux-dev] [ANNOUNCE] uClinux-dist-20070130 release

2007-02-05 Thread Bernd Büttner

Hi,

is there any reason why the mtd-utils are not updated?
I think they don't really work with the actual jffs2 driver.
Expecially the -j switch in eraseall is missing.
Merging in the mtd-utils-1.0.0.tar.gz package is difficult,
because the Makefile is very different.

Is there any hint what to do?

There is no easy answer, you just need to come up with a
clean merge of the new code. I seem to recall that the
current mtd-utils/Makefile has been heavily modified from
the original.

Re: [uClinux-dev] [ANNOUNCE] uClinux-dist-20070130 release

2007-02-22 Thread John Williams

Hi Gerg,

Is there a (good :) ) reason why uClinux-dist/Makefile clean: target now
deletes the $(LINUX)/include/asm symlink?

This means that after a make clean you have to make oldconfig to get the
symlink back. Perhaps this should be in distclean rather than clean?

Cheers,

John

It sure is annoying, I have seen the same thing.

Lets ask Davidm, since he made the change :-)
From the CVS commit of that change:

2.6 doesn't remove the include/asm link on clean and switching targets
  breaks (ie., arm to sh)

Wouldn't it be best to require "make distclean" after switching
targets anyway?

In other packages, I think "make clean" is not required to remove all
files which must be changed when swithing targets. (Seems implied by
GNU Standards for meaning of "clean" and "distclean").

Beats me whats best, I have always been able to switch from one target
to another without a distclean, so I made it do the same (a long time
ago by the way ;-) Obviously the other 2.6 targets are rebuild the link
at build time, which fits with 2.6's just make it work and make it
right rebuild approach.

A distclean when switching targets does make sense though, can't think
of anything (well except perhaps top level config.in files etc) which
will get removed and affect the build. Try it an see.

Cheers,
Davidm
