Re: [uknof] The Future of UKNOF

2023-10-03 Thread Nat Morris
Hi Denesh,

On the same topic, I had a Companies House notification on Saturday
that the UKIF Ltd accounts for the year upto Dec 2022 had been
posted...
https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/05296550/filing-history

I saw again that there was no mention of the RIPE /23 PI that is still
registered to UKIF LTD for UKNOF, could it be sold to help with the
cash flow issue? 6-7 years ago it wasn't valued so highly, but today
it could well be the largest asset that UKIF has.

https://apps.db.ripe.net/db-web-ui/lookup?source=ripe=ORG-UL35-RIPE=organisation

https://apps.db.ripe.net/db-web-ui/lookup?source=RIPE=inetnum=91.207.198.0%20-%2091.207.199.255

This would fetch ~16k GBP on the market and go some way to helping to
run events in 2024.

Worth remembering that Hyperoptic are in a position to offer landlords
incentives that Openreach can't, such as revenue share and free connections
for building management systems etc.

carriers are no-bidding this as they have no network in the area, and the
quotes I am getting are stupidly expensive - so I need to think outside the
 box a bit.

The only serious providers in that part of West Wales are BT and Talk Talk.

You could get a BT etherflow from Aber to Swansea, then pick up SSE /
Virgin / Surf Telecoms. The Surf network west of Swansea is all radio,
only customer of it really is Western Power.

Talk Talk have an LLU presence there and would be my best bet, they
have multiple 10G rings heading up through Haverfordwest, Cardigan and
on to Aber. You could get it handed off in Cardiff or back in London
if you have an existing TTB hand over.

it doesn't want to work at all. A UPS that drops the load as soon as the
mains power fails is of limited use to anyone.

We don't have a service contract on it or anything like that.

Can anyone recommend someone to come out and take a look before we consign
it to the scrapheap? We've found a couple of places that are full APC
dealers but got the distinct impression that they would have a look, charge
for a callout and then declare it a write off and simply try and sell us a
new one (and their repair callout charges are around £900 as well). I
don't mind if it really is dead but would rather have an honest opinion
from someone rather than just being seen as a sales opportunity.

We're based in Sussex, near Gatwick - so I'm guessing someone based in
London or the home counties would be ideal.

 Thanks

Hello,

I'd suggest looking at the managed switch, you will have better
visibility of the link, speeds/duplex/DOM stats for the optics. With a
media converter, unless its a managed one who knows whats going on.

Be careful about connecting your switch to the exchange, I'd suggest
reading this page on the LONAP site,
