Re: [Unattended] Last cvs .... computer freezes ...

2008-04-10 Thread Nyström Anders
hello

I had a similar situation
unattended-4.8
new e1000 driver
nt5x-install (automatically in the meta section)
make download and make all works fine

PXE boot goes alright until
:00:19.0 :eth0 Unable to allocate MSI Interrupt Error -1
Sending Discover
:00:19.0 :eth0: Link is up 100 Mbps Full Duplex Flow Control: RX/TX
Sending Discover
there it stop

after waiting an hour I Ctrl+C and tried /etc/master manually
voi´la - the installation went through, without problems

my question about this little workaround is,

what could be done after the Sending Discover text
to restart the master script or retry the udhcpd command

- I used the same glibc as this on my computer (glibc-2.3.6)

Make download. OK
Make tftpboot OK

So, I tried to boot an Dell Optiplex 755 with PXE, and I saw this messages:
...
*** Now that we have loaded the modules (maybe) let's try DHCP ...
*** Trying DHCP on eth0
udhcpc (v1.9.2) started
:00:19.0 :eth0 Unable to allocate MSI Interrupt Error -1
Sending Discover
:00:19.0 :eth0: Link is up 100 Mbps Full Duplex Flow Control: RX/TX
:00:19.0 :eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO

and now, the computer freezes.

I used: linux-2.6.24.4 glibc-2.3.6 perl-5.8.8 ...

I'll try with linux-2.6.24.3

Can you choose the partitionning ?

sorry Regis

I do not use parted or I actually always use the whole disk,
or perhaps I do use, but dont know it, so no problems for me there.
(remember I am a linux newbie) I did a find and got libparted-1.8.so.8

now this is getting interesting,
about 2 times of 10 it works just fine as it should.

is there anything I can do to make /etc/master and /etc/udhcpc-script work more
secure?
should I put sleep commands in there or something?

I think that you are having problems with the Network Driver. I would
use the one that comes from the kernel. If that gives you the same problem:

1) wait for 2.6.25 kernel

2) Modify Makefile and use 2.6.25-rc8

3) Report your problem on kernel.org

4) use latest version of http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000

5) report your problem to http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000

I didn't have any problems booting from the CD. Are you running the latest
BIOS? They might have had some bugs in earlier revisions. Mine are running
A08.
