[UC] "Hack" tonight

2003-10-30 Thread Mosetter

Do your realize that most of the trucks Big ticket is using only require power for inside lights? That's 1 15 amp circuit at most. They set up the elaborate spread of stuff only too let each truck sit there all night with a loud generator providing enough power in most cases to run you house with everything you have running for a light bulb.

Well, tonight I proved it and saved the folks on 44th street by asking Daemon to take the extra effort to run land line power from one source to these trucks thereby reducing the noise level fro 87.8 dB a weighted to just under 77 dB.  The two generators they have on site are super quiet production types and provide three phase 600 amps a leg each, that enough to power all of the blocks they consume during the shoot and then some.

Hopefully from now on they will tie all the truck together with land power and not generators.  If only the parking would be that easy!

Why can't they film in front of Jannie's House?

2003-10-30 Thread Lillja
I have a compost bin (container?) that was provided to me by the city. Sounded like a good Idea when I took the class and got the free bin, but I quickly realized it was way too big for my needs. It's about 4' high x 3' in diameter, has a removeable top and door for dumping and turning.

If anyone is interested, you're welcome to it.

[UC] bad smell

2003-10-30 Thread yok yok
In our house, which we moved only four mounts ago,
there is a bad smell. I hadn't noticed it untill a
coupla weeks ago. It is a smell like basement but I
can't see any mold on the walls. There is humunity in
the basement and in the corner of the dining room.
However, I don't really know if that humunity causes
the bad smell in the whole house or not.

Did anyone have this problem? Do you have any
suggestion what I can do about it?

RE: [UC] Stop & Go ... Going ... Gone!

2003-10-30 Thread Knight, Sandra \(US - Philadelphia\)
Does anyone remember the Stop n Go that operated across from Davis
Drugs? As soon as it opened, very young black women with baby carriages
appeared out of the blue to stand on the corner. Along with young black
men sitting in parked cars in front of the store blaring rap music out
of the car speakers. I wanted to recommend Matt Wolfe for sainthood
along with Hermann Behrens that year! Matt was instrumental in getting
rid of that store. In its place is an car insurance store now called
Nieleen's (sp).

PHILADELPHIA (AP) A City Council committee voted to approve a bill that
would forbid restaurants that sell take-out malt liquor and beer from
opening in certain parts of the city.

The full Council could consider the bill, sponsored by City Councilwoman
Jannie Blackwell, as early as next week. The Council's Rules Committee
voted 5-0 on Wednesday to recommend the bill.

The bill would prevent so-called "stop-and-go" stores from opening in
sections of West Philadelphia, South Philadelphia and the city's
downtown
area. It would not affect stores and restaurants already in operation,
Blackwell said.

Blackwell said some of the thousands of similar stores in her district
attract drug-dealing and drinking.

Also Wednesday, the Council committee voted to table a bill that would
have banned large retailers such as Target and Wal-Mart from opening
big-box stores in the city.

City's Lawyer Moved Quickly to Preserve Subpoenaed Records (10/22/03)by KYW's Mike Dunn
One day after the FBI raided city offices last week, the Street administration's top lawyer issued an internal memo warning all staffers not to destroy any records.
The memo from city solicitor Nelson Diaz (left) provides an insight into the Street administration's reaction to last week's very visible raids by federal agents on the Finance Department and the Pension board.

A day after the raids, Diaz wrote to commissioners and department heads, "As you are aware, the city has been served with a grand jury subpoena by the United States attorney's office."
Diaz says all records from January 1st of this year until present must be preserved.
The solicitor says this includes everything from e-mails to contracts, from appointment books to telephone records, from data on handheld computers to records of meetings.
Diaz writes that no record in either hard copy or electronic form should be altered or destroyed without consulting his Legal Department first.

This is aimed specifically at the Parking Authority. When the Republicans
took over, they promised to improve collections on tickets and contribute
the extra proceeds to the School District. So far, they have hired a lot of
patronage employees and sent nothing to the School District.

This would make a long overdue adjustment for inflation.

According to the Inky's Voters' Guide, "this question concerns the creation
of an office to deal solely with car-insurance rates. . . One of the
question's sponsors, Frank DiCicco, said it would cost several hundred
thousand dollars annually. . . Mayor Street has already created an Office of
Consumer Affairs which focuses on lowering homeowners insurance, eliminating
predatory lending practices , and tackling high utility rates" Wouldn't it
make more sense to add car-insurance rates to the existing agency rather
than creating another one?

Not exactly a terrible thing, of course. I do know that the Green Line

I was out early this morning walking my dogs (6:30am) and saw a car that
had been broken into on 47th street just north of Pine. There was glass on
the ground so I know it must have happened last night.

Our car was broken into Tuesday night. Someone took a screw driver to
the trunk of the car and broke the lock. There was nothing in the
trunk of great value, but the damage and repair costs will be
significant. I am posting this in order to alert everyone who lives in
the area. We have reported this to UCD and will notify the police.
