Subject: NEIGHBORHOOD ALERT

I just got this from Lieutenant John Washington, UPenn Public Safety
patrol. There are two very suspicious guys in the area casing
houses and bikes. Be advised--see below... stay safe... and please
pass the word to your neighbors on either side of you or to multiple
members of your house. FYI, Leslie!

FYI Ms. Banks:

While riding around last night I set up observation of two young
males that were on your block. They had one bike, one was acting as
an observer and were eyeing up the bike that was locked to the
railing near the USP Frat House. They finally realized that I was
watching them and started to wonder the neighborhood – our plain
clothes team followed them until they went to the 300 block of S.
43rd where the male without a bike went down an alley and retrieved
a bike that he had obviously previously stashed there.
The males were stopped (one was 19, one was 17, both from SW Phila)
and were found to have numerous wire cutters and hacksaw blades –
all used to steal bikes. We sent them on their way but they
promised to ‘be back’… we will keep an eye out for them and try to
ensure that there are no issues on your block but if you can let
everyone know to secure valuables out of sight in their cars and to
use a kryptonite lock and not cable of chain locks for their
bicycles that would be doing us a favor.

Thanks. jwjr

[UC] Antiques burglary at 45th and Locust

2009-08-29 Thread Ana Kostich

I really want to report this:

There was a burglary last night [around 3am] at 4528 Locust street.

The house is not inhabited as the renovation work is still going on] and some
construction material at the porch
was a sure indicator of the status. Nevertheless, all the houses around are
well occupied. The neighbor heard the noise which must have been horrendous
because they kicked the front door to get in and teared the second one out of
the frame [old oak with leaded glass I had remade last year]. That was the
intended loot. That's all they managed to get as the neighbor called the police.
I believe they are coming back for more antiques [mantles, leaded glass
windows].

I know this has been going on in the neighborhood for some time. Could you
please let me know of the case you know [the latest wave] so I can compile
something. I am determined to recover this. It cannot disappear. Later, I'll
post the picture. I appreciate any help. Have to go now and get something to
try to secure the house.
There is a d...@#! ring of antiques burglars and the accomplice dealers in
Phila and that needs to be broken!

The police came [reportedly] quickly last night but did not want to call me
[the other neighbor was trying to call in their presence] nor come the house I
was at [less than a block away] and did not make a report till finally just
before I wrote this. I called at 10am.
These are not the just plain burglaries.
Let's stop it, please.
Thank you.
Your frustrated neighbor,
Ana

Folks, Just saw this on c'slist.

This might be the kitten (Wyatt - blk&grey stripes, with white) that
was lost two weeks ago around the same location. Please be on the
lookout! I've written to both parties but no reply yet. Thanks!

Found black and white kitten. Very friendly. Wearing white flea
collar, but COVERED in fleas. I cannot take her in my house because I
have a dog and a cat that I do not want to get fleas.
I found him/her hiding in a open box in my recycling bin. I took her
out to see if she was injured, but she just followed me to my door
meowing. Don't know if it's male or female, but she seems under a year
old. I also don't now if she was intentionally dumped in the bin or
just jumped in there. It's been about an hour and I've gone out there
several times, but she is still out there waitingI really don't
want to take her to the spca. I hope she belongs to someone.
