[UC] RECOMMENDATION
Hi Neighbors: I don't normally do this but this recommendation is worth sharing. I have a recommendation for a contractor who does excellent painting, plastering and restoration. He just finished restoring the woodwork on our 1st including the staircase to the 2nd floor. He also repaired all of the cracks in the walls and ceilings and then painted the walls and ceilings. His work is professional and he is honest, that’s a great combination. He has also done the exterior of several homes in the neighborhood. His name is Patrick Forte and his telephone number is 267-679-3710, call for a free estimate. Thank you John Valentino

[UC] For the Birds
Dear Neighbors: It's getting to be that time of year again when our feathered friends will be returning to roost in the well-groomed trees and bushes of University City. As was mentioned in prior years, some of the biggest fans of this migration are our neighborhood kitty-cats. You can almost hear their little feline-hearts palpitating with expectation of their little buddies' return. Many a colorful songbird bypasses our community for safer branches north and west of here, once they witness the toothy reception that awaits them. But I've recently discovered that there is an intervention, a program if you will, that your kitties can attend to help them learn to love their little friends, but not eat them. It is called Birds Anonymous (B.A.) and my veterinarian just told me that a chapter will be opening soon in our community!! Here is a link with some of their literature and moving testimonials by former bird-hounds. I advise you take a look at this and see if we can find a good place to start a meeting. http://www.thewb.com/shows/looney-tunes/birds-anonymous/0a3ffaa3-c5aa-4beb-9de6-f18644431ca8 Your friend and Bird Lover, Joe (Tweet tweet) C. -- It’s difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it. *Upton Sinclair*

One of my favorite Looney Tunes! Let's see what's cookin' on TV: After-a bastin' you'll find that your bird-a will be-a GOL-den-a Brown-a. Ev-er-y a-SUCCulent-a MORsel will-a SIM-ply MELT-a in-a YOU Mouth-a. THEN That was 'Bye-bye Blackbird'. Now we'll hear 'When the Red Red Robin Comes Bob-Bob-Bobbin' Along. Don't make them like that anymore. This link is not as clear as yours, but is really funny because we have to watch out for dogs who chase cats who chase birds. [UC] vicious dog alert - part 2
Neighbors, A quick word of thanks to all of our friends and neighbors who have expressed support over the last couple days. Our beloved dog, Blakey, is badly torn up, but should survive his injuries barring any unforeseen complications. According to the PPD officers that took my information and filed the report, there is little that they can do as this is regarded as a civil or property crime. They also said that I should contact the SPCA so that they have record of the attack. Aside from filing a lawsuit (and the owner did not look like he could afford our vet bills) it seems that we have little recourse. I want to ensure that this animal is euthanized so that it does no more harm, but I am unsure where to begin. If anyone has any ideas about where to start please contact me via email at steveandm...@hotmail.com. I have also posted some photographs of the dog/ owner I took before running off to PennVet - http://www.flickr.com/photos/sminicola/sets/72157626431017242/ If you live, work, walk near 47th and Chester I recommend watching for and giving the owner a clear path. Judging by the way he handled his animal after the incident he knows a thing or two about dog fights. Please be careful, Steve Minicola From: steveandm...@hotmail.com To: univcity@list.purple.com Subject: vicious dog alert Date: Sun, 3 Apr 2011 22:37:13 -0400 Neighbors, Our dog was viciously mauled late this afternoon. The dog that attacked (a big, dark, brindle pit bull terrier) was tied up outside Salt and Pepper at 47th and Chester, but broke its leash, raced across the street and attacked our dog. As we wait to learn about the extent of his injuries from the good folks at PennVet, I wanted to warn everyone to be especially cautious, especially those with small children and animals. Thanks to the kindness of a few strangers the police have identified the owner. Please be careful. Steve.

The owner also looks like he has been fighting too. ?-Maybe attacks from his own dog? Sad. - RC On Apr 4, 2011, at 9:35 PM, Mimi Iijima wrote: Neighbors, A quick word of thanks to all of our friends and neighbors who have expressed support over the last couple days.
