Re: [UC] The defeated NID, link

2012-02-06 Thread Glenn
The state law was crafted to be almost impossible to stop with the
requirement to have 51% provide written opposition. People don't
realize that it is not 1 citizen/ one vote. Large owners are given
voting power equal to their units.

This suggests almost unanimous rejection of this NID by indigenous
residents and a herculean effort to reach the 51% Still, city hall
attempted to serve their corporate masters and defy the people!

[UC] Privatization of city hall, weekly press

2012-02-06 Thread Glenn
Since CCD and the condo developers sneaked through the rental of
Dilworth Plaza for 30 years, they've been pushing this basic propaganda
piece. Taxpayers got $1 and remain liable for utilities.

http://weeklypress.com/local-and-national-leaders-supporters-gather-to-break-ground-for-dilworth-p2953-1.htm

Lies:

"The Center City District thanks all who have supported the
transformation of Dilworth Plaza into what will be one of the most
vibrant civic spaces in the city. This critically important capital
investment will generate more than 900 construction jobs, will enhance
the pedestrian and transit-rider experience..."

"Planning and design for the Dilworth Plaza project began in 2008, and
more than 60 meetings were held with various stakeholder groups who
reviewed and commented on its design. Following publicly-advertised open
meetings of the City of Philadelphia's Art and Historical Commissions,
City Planning Commission, and City Council, the project was formally
approved

I just saw the devastated site. All the trees have been slaughtered and
the granite taxpayers invested in 30 years ago, has been destroyed.
THERE WERE SIX CONSTRUCTION WORKERS PRESENT. These "900 jobs" are
simply a list of job descriptions of anyone who will be connected to the
site for even 1 day! You'll never see more than 5- 10 workers on such a
project on any given day and often as few as 1 or 2. This is a huge lie.

If you google the history of Levy's antics you'll see they had the usual
INVITATION ONLY meetings for condo developers, etc. They never told the
people of Philadelphia how they were misusing taxpayer money earmarked
for public transportation or ending the 1st amendment by renting the
former public space for corporate parties. 50 million dollars could
have created many jobs installing shelters and seats at all bus and
trolley stops, DOING A REAL PUBLIC GOOD!

Nobody outside of the plutocracy knew they were privatizing and misusing
taxpayer money. The subsequent announcements from the damn planning and
historical commissions NEVER conveyed that the space was being given
away. You're supposed to feel stupid and uninformed if you weren't at
the invitation only meetings. These propaganda pieces are supposed to
give cover for the treachery behind these back room deals!

Dilworth plaza was in perfect condition and designed appropriately for
the most important gathering space for the redress of grievances in the
city of Philadelphia. We only found out about this rental agreement
because it was used to justify the eviction of occupy Philly.

Please ask yourselves- If this theft of public space and taxpayer funds
was actually good for the people of Philadelphia, why would they keep it
secret and then bombard the public with these extreme lies??

This was accomplished just like all NIDS/BIDS and the privatization of
Clark Park. Please reconsider support for privatizing all public spaces
and ending the first amendment!!

We need to take back city hall!

Glenn
PS: Video of brutality at Occupy DC. Every encampment I visited from
Miami to Boston has been brutally attacked. Thousands and thousands of
my brothers and sisters have been brutalized across the country on
formerly public spaces

The article sounded almost exactly like the so-called "NID/BID" UCD tried to
push through. As they used to say on the old "Dragnet" TV show: "...Only the
names have been changed to protect the innocent..."

Bless these brave citizens! Of course Levy wasn't concerned. These
plutocrats fix these schemes behind closed doors and don't give a damn
about democratic processes or the will of the people

"THE ANGRY crowd in City Council chambers in September held up signs
blasting "Taxation Without Representation," but Paul Levy wasn't concerned."

More civic association leaders get co-opted:

"Sarah McEneaney, president of the Callowhill Neighborhood Association,
said the group continues to believe that an improvement district "will
have significant benefits for the community and the neighborhood."
