Re: [UC] Blow-in insulation?

2014-09-12 Thread Dan Ohlemiller
Any new recommendations? I never did find someone. Home Depot told me that
they wouldn't be able to measure the space so they couldn't provide an
estimate, and also that they wouldn't be willing to make a hole to blow in
through.

Re: [UC] Mason referral

2012-09-06 Thread Dan Ohlemiller
Hi all,

I'm trying to find a masonry contractor to do a little bit of fill and
cinderblock work in a structural wall. I have left messages with the two
folks below who Liz suggested three years ago, and with Chris Eaton, a
great mason I have used before. Does anyone have additional suggestions?

Thanks,

Here is a name worth saving for when you next need work done.

   215-725-4436 - Office

   267-809-4321 - Cell

   6630 Glenloch St
   Phila, PA 19135

Cris is a youngish, strong mason with 17 years in the business.

He and his crew can do:

Beautiful Stone pointing (Box, Raised Ribbon, Butter, Flat, etc.)
Brick Pointing
Masonry washing and restoration
Repositioning of Key Stones and 'Eyebrows' above doors and windows.
Basement windows in glass block
Parging of basement (w or w/o wire lathing)

Chris is willing do high work and behind downspouts and gutters.
He cleaned up after himself, and after a previous crew who had dumped
several gallons of cement behind a bush.

He refers sidewalk and driveway work to my other great mason Conor Kelly,
215-722-1574, who can also do basements.

 Best!

[UC] repairing cracked window glass?

2011-10-14 Thread Dan Ohlemiller
Hi out there,

Can anyone recommend a contractor who could repair a small crack in
the glass of a vinyl replacement window?

I feel like the ideal solution would be if a company like Safelite did
house windows in addition to car windows, but I can't find anything
like that from some quick googling.

[UC] squirrel removal

A squirrel has been getting into my house. I'm having the area
repaired right now where I think it has been entering, but I don't
want to trap it inside--the contractors saw it go in. Anyone know any
strategies for getting the squirrel to leave long enough to at least
spray some foam into the hole?

Thanks...

Re: [UC] Anyone know a wrought iron gate builder/installer?

2007-05-26 Thread Dan Ohlemiller

Andy Upright is a local metalworker who does some amazing work. I'm
currently in the process of figuring out a design for a wrought iron
alley gate for him to build me. He said he wouldn't be able to start
working on it until early July, however. www.andyuprightmetalworks.com

My neighbors have also talked to a shop called something like
Anvilworks Iron or Anvil Ironworks or something like that...

I need a gate (approx. 5 1/2 ft wide) made and installed at the bottom of my
front steps ASAP!.

I am tired of cleaning up after (and getting citations for) the
not-so-locals who choose to perch on my steps. I've tried sprinkling all
sorts of powdered cleansers on the steps to discourage them. Of course after
raising so much {bleep} they move when they see me coming home, but I still
have to walk through a cloud of not-so-legal smoke and pick up debris. I
tell my kids to hold their breath and run into the house.

Because of the daily drug sales/use, I've written to both Jannie Blackwell
and LI over a year ago. I've also called the police, but these characters
are smart, they scatter and then return later.

The gate will certainly stop them from getting so close. So information
Please!!!

Thanks
Sheryl
