When clicking MPlayer Media Player (gmplayer) from the menu, CPU works
for a bit, but no gmplayer opens..

When launching gmplayer with no arguments from shell:
$ gmplayer

mplayer: No such file or directory

#skin = Abyss

# aptitude why mplayer-skin-blue

i A mplayer-skin-blue Provides mplayer-skin

After adding the following line to /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf:
skin = blue

gmplayer opens, but it's control panel is all black (no controls are
visible)

and the following output is shown:
$ gmplayer

That is gmplayer from mplayer package.

However, gnome-mplayer from package gnome-mplayer, works fine...

[Bug 403212] Re: [upgrade] sdlmame new upstream release 0.134

2009-10-01 Thread Cesare Falco

Hello Fabrice,

and thanks for your help.

1. I agree, the watch file should not track unstable releases. I'll
put it very high in my to-do list. :)

2. No, 0.133 and 0.134 are so called stable (major) releases. Mame
developers agreed to a tight development cycle, with each release
planned in about 6 weeks, during which a weekly u (unstable) update is
released. Unstable releases may include major code refactoring or simply
support for new games, but they are not guarantee to work for all users
(as an example, I can remember a couple of builds which broke sound on
my box). No major releases are done until regression tests are passed or
nearly so, so I consider them reliable enough for the repository.

So we have to stick with 0.132 for Karmic, as 0.133 has not been
uploaded before FF and is still in the queue.

On user demand, I run a site with unofficial packages for each
intermediate build at http://sdlmame.wallyweek.org, in a very similar
way WineHQ works.

Hope this helps,
Cesare.

[Bug 435968] Re: vlc assert failure: vlc: /build/buildd/libdvdnav-4.1.3/src/vm/vm.c:1485: process_command: Assertion `0' failed.

2009-10-01 Thread Sam Liddicott
I think this is a duplicate of 370884

I also have the bug, back-traces attached.

The bug affects me with totem, vlc and xine

xine doesn't crash, but reports (as does totem):
libdvdread: Found 3 VTS's
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
libdvdread: Can't seek to block 1011614
libdvdread: Invalid IFO for title 2 (VTS_02_0.IFO).

Sometimes totem works (usually for me) but often fails as reported
(usually for my wife). Today it fails for me!

Sometimes VLC works (without DVD menus) but then when skipping to later
chapters reports:
[0x9658a18] libmpeg2 decoder error: DpbUnlinkPicture called on an invalid
picture
libdvdread: Can't seek to block 614496
[0x947b698] dvdread demux error: read failed for block 600501
QPainter::begin: Paint device returned engine == 0, type: 1

but yet dmesg doesn't report any failures to read

[BTW when I try to report a bug from within totem, the console reports:
Error: Failed to send command: 500 command not parseable]

2009-10-01 Thread Colin Watson
Thanks. This is obviously filesystem corruption of some kind (and I
don't know why; it's particularly weird that it seems to happen
repeatably), but for this particular case I'll make grub-common's init
script check for a zero-sized file on boot, and if so then make it just
delete it.

[Bug 439865] [NEW] resume from hibernate not working correct after hibernate from logon screen

2009-10-01 Thread walter----
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hibernate

Following scenario works ok: I am logged on, select to hibernate;
computer hibernates , I restart the computer and he comes back to where
I was (or to the unlock screen). Perfect! And this works also for all
other users of the computer.

But when I hibernate from the logon screen, the resume is not working
correctly. The computer restarts, ubuntu says it is starting up, but the
computer never goes to the graphical UI. It seems to hang in text mode (there
is hardly any message); even worse: when I then press Ctrl-ALT-DEL the
computer restarts (actually doing a graceful linux shutdown in text mode).
I can press alt F2 to login in text mode, and when I then 'exit' the computer
starts the graphical UI en brings me back to the logon screen.

Actually, I believe that the computer when I hibernate from logon
screen, directly goes to text mode before it shutsdown. So maybe the
issue lies in the hibernate process itself.

[Bug 439868] [NEW] UEC images could be smaller

2009-10-01 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Filed against vm-buidler but I'm not sure that's where it belongs.
Current UEC images are very large (10Gb+ filesystems) which make them:
- difficult to use or test in UEC
- oversized for lots of typical cloud usages
- needing m1.xlarge by default in UEC

I think we should make sure they can run into a default UEC c1.medium
(1CPU, 256Mb ram, 5Gb disk).

Note that this happens more often on Karmic Koala (alpha), with it's use

[Bug 439784] Re: invalid: environment block

2009-10-01 Thread Glen Turner
I just had a look at the fix, and I suggest a better fix would be to
allow load_env to continue with just a warning if it fails reading the
file. It's not like scripts don't have to handle unset environment
variables in any case. That would allow for more exotic forms of
filesystem corruption.

[Bug 439906] [NEW] Push to debian the ubuntu-dev-tools that are relevant for them

2009-10-01 Thread Peter Antoniac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-dev-tools

This comes from the Debian interest expressed in Debian bug (debbugs
#543315) where they suggested that they could use the ubuntu-dev-tools
scripts into the debian sbuild packages. It is also related to the work
and comments that are provided in Ubuntu Bug #416438.

To summarise, someone should try to filter out the scripts that are
generic and push them to debian to include them in their packages.

[Bug 439784] Re: invalid: environment block

2009-10-01 Thread Glen Turner
What I meant is that I trialled your idea by hacking my init scripts as
you suggest. You might want to test your idea further when I modify the
script to just delete it the boot sequence still fails complaining
about a read failure on grubenv. You need to say /usr/bin/grub-editenv
/boot/grub/grubenv create. Not sure if /usr is mounted at that point,
as everything on this machine is in one partition.

The simplest approach might be to patch grub2 loadenv to be more robust
when seeing failure.

[Bug 439415] Re: Bundling UEC image with uec-images-provided kernel/ramdisk results in an EMI that fails to boot

2009-10-01 Thread Scott Moser
I'm sure that we can get this fixed. Theres just some thing different
in the initramdisk created in the chroot with the -virtual flavour of
the kernel and on with the -server flavour on real hardware. It seems
more likely to be the -server/-vritual difference to me.

We'll get this fixed soon, but not for beta.

Thanks for the report, the commit you're pointing to is

;i don't think that might cause the issue, but would be nice to test it,
could you please revert that commit localy and test ? Thanks. BTW i have
the same version installed and DVD playback works great here.

[Bug 370932] Re: maradns init script silently fails during the boot, but works when run manually

2009-10-01 Thread Miika Komu
I am one of the maintainers of software called HIP for Linux (HIPL). I
tripped into this same issue with HIPL. I solved the problem as follows:

http://infrahip.hiit.fi/cgi-bin/archzoom.cgi/hipl-...@freelists.org--
hipl/hipl--userspace--2.6--patch-2564/test/packaging/hipl-
deb.spec.diff?diff

Notice that we're using debbuild building system instead of normal
debian one, but I hope you got an idea. We're starting the service in
rcS.d instead of rc2.d. This is really a workaround, not a real
solution, but it's better than removing splash.

Is this stuff occurring because of upstart?

[Bug 439589] Re: Fails to build on Karmic, tiny gcc 4.4 issue

2009-10-01 Thread David Sugar
It might be something strange I had on my end at the time I did a test
build, or some more recent change in the type in one of the dependent
libraries that also fixed this, because I think uri-scheme was not
originally a const char *. I will re-confirm that it still breaks
without this, otherwise we can close it...

[Bug 439682] Re: remotefs fails to build karmic, gcc 4.4 strict aliasing

2009-10-01 Thread David Sugar
I had thought about that, but the actual type of client_address is
conditionally determined from an #ifdef for IPV6, hence unless it is
cast to a known type in advance, you do have to do the cast in line 240
because it might either be a struct sockaddr_storage * or a struct
sockaddr_in *. Hence, I did not see a less intrusive way to solve this
at the time, at least for all possible compile paths. If you suggest we
keep the code change and I simply correct the Maintainer field, I could
re-upload for that.
