Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Minimum CPU/mem req for Slimserver without X
I'm running SlimServer (and other incidental stuff, such as NFSD, SSHD etc) on a Kurobox HG. This is a 266MHz PPC box with 128Mb RAM. SlimServer, along with AlienBBC etc, runs fine. Gentoo took a while to install, but it works great now. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Minimum CPU/mem req for Slimserver without X
Hi, I'm running slimserver on a VIA mini-ITX 500Mhz rig, linux (ubuntu), alongside the usual web-, mail and fileserver tasks. No performance problems. Flac's are served up without any hickups. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Playback on Slimserver box via Softsqueeze slow
I'm experiencing the same problem with slow playback. I noticed that when I click play twice in the Moose application, it starts playing at normal speed. Does anyone know of a better fix for this? Thanks csduetto;97917 Wrote: Hi all, a newbie here - with the help of great documentation I have had slimserver running well on my Fedora 4 box. I have it networked to 3 other PC's in the home which run Win2000 and softsqueeze runs great on all of these. My files are all stored on teh Linux box and are flac files. I can also use the Music player installed on the Linux box and play the flac files just fine via the soundcard (audiophile2496). However, when I try to use the softsqueeze applet or s/w the playback is like 1/8th of the playback speed of what it should be. Has anyone had this issue and what is the workaround? thanks c.S. -- Sulat Sulat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10305 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22504 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Recommendations for Linux compatible USB Hard Drive?
As said before, it doesn't matter. Linux has no problem running usb, and even 24/96 over a usb2 is hardly going to tax your interface. However, there are a few things to consider: - a very large drive in a tiny usb enclosure will get hotter than in a well ventilated case. Don't smother your drives. It pays to shop around a little and find a nice metal case that can help in getting the heat out. - have you considered e-sata? The last 2 usb enclosures I bought also support external sata. So you can get the full sata speed to an external drive. I haven't checked if those are hot-pluggable under linux, this is on the to-do list. - external hd's are a bit more fragile if dropped, bumped etc... - you will need more cables, sockets. Search a bit around before commiting to a file system. Ext3, Reiser and XFS (and to some extend JFS) each have some strenghts. -- Havoc Havoc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5064 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32886 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
[SlimDevices: Unix] (Ubuntu) APT-get update Error
Lately I can't get any updates from slimdevices anymore. When I do: Apt-get update I get these errors: Failed to fetch http://debian.slimdevices.com/dists/testing/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 416 Requested Range Not Satisfiable Failed to fetch http://debian.slimdevices.com/dists/stable/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Sub-process gzip returned an error code (1) I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. Updates from other sources give me no problems. When I download the Package.gz manualy with wget I can't unzip it with gzip. But I can read it like a normal text file with cat. I tried reinstalling but that doesn't help. Because of all the depencies I realy don't want to install it manualy. Is there some way to fix this or is this a problem with slimdevices? -- jaap114 jaap114's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32909 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix

[SlimDevices: Unix] Actual permissions of files/directories
Hi- running 6.5 on debian sarge i added a bunch of files/directories to my internal drive. added a symbolic link to them in the music folder. scanned and nothing new. led me to look at permissions. whoa. a lot of the directories have set user id permissions. not sure if this is correct. so here's the user scoop: slimserver running under user slimserver I do my file work under user name elio ownership of the music files/directories is under elio Just what permissions should the music directories and actual files be?
