Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Hi Steen, I've tested version 09 especially on the connection issues I had. With version 07 Picoreplayer did not play when LMS started. I had to use the power button in LMS or a reboot of my RPI first. A second problem was that after a few hours of playing I suddenly got a strange static noise. I have good news both problems are solved with this new version 09. You did an excellent good job Steen. Thanks for all the good work! My HiFimeDIY Sabre USB DAC 96khz/24b is still playing very fine. I love the high end sound quality. My Musical Fidelity V-DAC II still does not work (music is hearable but only with clicks and pops). Thanks again. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)
I don't know to interpret this, but I have found that I can get fairly repeatable crackly results on my Vortexbox by stopping squeezelite, starting it, and then playing tracks. Ignoring occasional glitches on starting playing, I get crackle after 7 to 11 minutes, for about 1 minute, which then stops and re-occurs later. This is true with CD quality, 24/96, FLAC instead of PCM from LMS, using plughw:... instead of hw:..., and most other variations I have had time to check. If I start squeezelite and play nothing for 4 minutes, then play a track, sure enough after another approximately 8 minutes it usually crackles. I haven't repeated this enough times to make sure it's a reliable measurement, but I will do some more runs. These results aren't entirely consistent. but around 85-90% of the time seem to hold true. I even tried various types of music (piano, choral, pop etc) to see if the difference balance of sound to silence made a measurable difference, but it doesn't seem to. There is nothing on the debug log. I have repeated some of the tests on my other system and still get no crackle at all, so the DAC really is OK. So what does it all mean? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)
hi, I'm running squeezelite under Debian Wheezy as VMs under VMware workstation. It's all working really well. One thing I'm finding though is that I have 3 VMs with 3 squeezelite instances permanently in a sync group. If I stop the music at night and then leave everything until the morning (nothing powered off), I'm unable to play any music until I unsync the group and then resync it again. The behavior seems quite predicable. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I'm thinking it may be to do with some power saving mode or similar inside the VMs? Has anyone seen this on either physical or virtual machines? ashleyw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58923 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Hi Willem - thank you for the PayPal donation. Good to hear that your experience with the piCorePlayer has been improved. Hopefully we will be able to make your Musical Fidelity V-DAC II DAC work as well. Adrian has a Musical Fidelity V-Link192 which also have some problems with clicks and pops, so maybe it is the same problem you both have? It#8217;s sad to report but this evening after a few hours of playing I got the strange static noise again. I had to reboot my raspberry pi. So apparently the problem isn#8217;t solved yet. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
Hi Steen, Willem, Steen had pointed me at this post http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?97803-piCoPlayer-Squeezelite-on-Microcore-linux-An-embedded-OS-in-RAM-with-Squeezelitep=748415viewfull=1#post748415 I applied that this evening, and all of the files that had been playing back with errors are now played back perfectly. I believe slackhead' correctly identified the cause of the issue, and has resolved it with this easy addition to cmdline.txt. For me, the pops and crackles were rarely heard with CD-quality FLAC files, and as the samplerate and bit-length increased the problem became more and more obvious. My thanks to Steen and Slackhead:-) All I need now is for Triode to respond to the several requests for a 'donate' button, as I think I really owe him a beer or two for producing the excellent squeezelite code:-) adrianr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16258 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97803 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Triode wrote: I've added a couple of small changes to the git version of squeezlite which I would be grateful if those building their own binaries could test. Changes are: 1) fallback to discovery if it fails to connect to a server for 30 seconds and no service IP address was given on the command line 2) send the player name from the -n param on every connection to a server, not just the first time This version seems to be working fine. One cosmetic issue I just noticed, that's probably worth changing when you build the next production release: squeezelite -? snip -c codec1,codec2 Restrict codecs *to* those specified, otherwise loads all available codecs; known codecs: flac,pcm,mp3,ogg,aac (mad, mpg for specific mp3 codec) You're missing a 'to'. paulster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23073 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

OK, I will concede WiFi won't work as desired (noted above). Q: How do I disable WiFi during the boot sequence (disable wlan0 sudo ifdown wlan0 without login)? gregb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=47178 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98709 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
