Pi has a built in hub. However it has a broken USB implementation which
means that UAC 1 doesn't work for many dacs You probably want to
search for PI specific details of how to improve usb performance, but I
have not been able to get my MDAC to work with one.. Other ARM hardware
with real usb implementations work fine.

B-U didn't exist for F18 so I doubt there's anything for F19. I tried
simply using the scripts from the Debian bluez-utils - got a whole bunch
of errors (seg. fault if I recall). The only way I got BT working was
to set up the devices in Debian (another pain), then copy over the
config files, etc. to fedora. It was a pain in the proverbial - totally
hit'n'miss.

Strange that no-one has a definitive guide to setting up BT in linux
terminal.

I get "3.2.27+" from that line command so likely not to work I guess
unless Squeezeplug is updated. Looked at my Ubuntu PC 3.8.0-30-generic
so maybe 13.10 will have the support.

I will keep the CM6631 (was thinking I will sell it) in the hope that it
may work in the future.

My longer term aim is a high quality USB DAC with the Wandboard in my
larger system using XMOS/ES9023. Possubly the SUBBU DAC if it gets
developed with USB rather than the current SPDIF version.

Again, many thanks for the help and info.

Alsamixer isn't actually a mixer in the traditional sense, it doesn't
actually change the bits going to the DAC. It sends control codes to the
DAC to tell it to change the volume. That is only going to work if the
DAC has an internal volume control of some sort, the 2707 does not have
a volume control so you can change the volume all you want in alsamixer
and nothing is going to happen.

Have you tried using a USB hub between the Pi and the DAC? I think that
chip is trying to connect with UAC1 which usually needs a hub when
running on most ARM platforms.

2013-09-04 Thread Krisbee

I fully accept my test has, as you put it, violated the FHS. But wonder
it that alone is what is causing the above error. The command I used to
start slimserver.pl is just a slightly modded version of what would be
inside an initscript, and was executed as root.

So, some of the dirs under /opt/logitechmediaserver-7.7.2-33893-noCPAN/
are redundant.

I did not start the other per 5.18 thread, I simply followed up on the
OP and then Michael. I have tried to keep this thread on subject, re:

off when I can snatch a bit of time. A poor approach.

I'm going to start from a clean slate, and see if don't end with the
same YAML problem. I'll shut up now.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS F19 Release 1

2013-09-04 Thread JohnSwenson

I've been running F19-R1 for about a week now, it has been extremely
stable and responsive. As mentioned before I've been doing DAC
development where I need to reconfigure squeezelite parameters
frequently and connect and disconnect DACs. The previous R7 version was
somewhat unstable with this. Even with great care sometimes it would
take 2-3 minutes to restart, or hang altogether. With this release it
has been completely stable, bringing up down, restarting, changing
paramters etc without a glitch.

Everything just seems to be more responsive with faster response times
in the guis etc.

I'm still having problems with bluetooth. The subsystem seems to be up
and running, I can run things like hcitools, but still can't pair
anything. I've tried to run simple-agent (which is a python script) but
it can't find the BLUEZ-UTILS python module. I tried and can't find it
anywhere. I probably don't have the right repository set for yum, but I
can't find anything on the net which says where I can find this.

I was poking around fedora this morning on the net and it looks like
they might have switched to bluez 5.x which says it's only campatible
with 3.4 and up kernels. But if that is true I wonder why the susbsystem
seems to be working. It has blueman, but I need X-windows for that.
Anyway still no luck connecting with bluetooth.

All in all, it just works, great job.

Hi Zsolt,

Please read that and respond there. I'm interested in why you
specifically want HALT, is it just to save power or is there some other

XMOS is the smart choice, from a Linux driver point of view. There is a

no nonsense, and works!

Not necessarily - your testing it this way is part of the problem (see

There is a structure to a Unix filesystem (see 'here'
Runtime data goes to /var (that's why the squeezebox user gets
permissions to write there (the chown commands in my original post))

If you start slimserver.pl manually, you have make sure it runs as the
correct user (squeezeboxserver) and to pass the appropriate --prefsdir,
--logdir and --cachedir flags, otherwise it will try to write somewhere
(probably the current directory), which is not what you want (If you
start it with the init script, the script will take care of this). You
should also remove all stuff created in the /opt/logitech.../ directory
from your previous attempts.

btw, could you kindly refrain from randomly posting to two different

Eh, that's bonkers! sox, sox, sox, what has sox got to do with it?

Are the flac files high-res, so they are being down-sampled via sox
transcoding recipe on the server-side, because squeezelite client is

Testing now.

Seems FLAC playback is broken. I can play radio streams (AAC, OGG &
MP3) and MP3 files but not FLAC files (through local squeezelte). When
I play FLAC the WebGUI responds as expected but there is no sound.
If I go back from playing FLAC to MP3 or radio I have to restart
squeezelite to get sound again (the WebGUI again displays as expected).

There is no entry in the SBS log, but /var log/messages show:

This is playing through my cheap PCM2704 DAC with these settings '-p 10

run picoreplayer from a telnet session, and select option 5.

Steen, are these settings always recommended for HDMI audio?

Try adding the following to your existing /boot/cmdline.txt file:

Code:

  smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N

This made a huge difference with my RPi.

One of these, USB to SPDIF, not much detail I'm afraid, thats what you
get for buying off eBay I guess.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CM6631-CM6631A-USB-turn-coaxial-optical-sound-192KHZ-24bit-I2S-jack-Lcm-/200950590232?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Amplifiers&hash=item2ec996ab18&_uhb=1

It has "Mode CMD-3" on the case if that is of any meaning.

I was looking for an asynchronous converter, should have gone XMOS.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] LMS and perl 5.18 - can it work?

2013-09-04 Thread Krisbee

Roland0,

I'd miised the edits to scanner.pl and slimserver.pl. The output of
"/opt/logitechmediaserver-7.7.2-33893-noCPAN/slimserver.pl --user
squeezeboxserver -d_startup" shows the correct version of perl is being
used, but final lines show errors:

Is this simply a permissions problems? Should all the files/dirs under
/opt have an owner/group of "root:root", or
"squeezeboxserver:nogroup"? My untar of
logitechmediaserver-7.7.2-noCPAN.tgz resulted in odd values for
owner/group of 201:201 and I wasn't sure what it should really be.

I need to fix this error before testing any initscript.

If you created your own initscript is there any reason why can cannot
use refs to the Logs, Plugin and perfs directories that exist under
/opt/logitechmediaserver-7.7.2-33893-noCPAN/?

CM6631.. I'm not surprised. I still haven't seen a user report of
the CMedia chipset working under Linux. I think it may still be a
chipset to avoid if you intend to use it with Linux.

ISTR, that the CMedia datasheet suggests that CM6631 should work in UAC1
mode with the "standard" Linux snd-usb-audio driver, but that UAC2 was
only "supported" on Window$/Mac with their proprietary driver. Which DAC
do you have with the CM6631? Do you know if it is being used in UAC1 or
UAC2 mode? ie. does the DAC claim to support >96kHz via USB?

Hi, Steen, I tested v1.06 today with the "dwc_otg.fiq_split_enable=0 in
/boot/cmdline.txt".

There is no difference in my TWO USB DAC, one is based on TE8802 and the
other is based on TE7022. They both have continuous crack sounds.

The version Hifimediy show on their website now has a different volume
control. Mine (its actually a friends, I just wanted to try the TE7022
chip) has a volume pot rather than the touch buttons on the newer one.

Michael,

Just out of interest, is this the same HiFimediy TE7022/ES9023 USB DAC
as ChrisMmm has working in the post above? (The reason I ask, is that I
believe there are now 2 versions of the Hifimediy ES9023 DAC, the latest
revision is using a new chipset as the USB input receiver, the Savitech
SA9023, not the Tenor chipset.)
