Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite
HI Thomas. You will need to update the kernel (or if you build it by yourself you will have to enable "DMA_CMA" and "CMA" when you use "make menuconfig"). I build it for 3.14.1, but I think that it should be possible for you just to do a rpi-update from your SqueezePlug system. Also the firmware needs to be updated (the three *.elf files). Then after a reboot it is all enabled by default - and it is playing extremely well now. Unfortunately I don't have an USB-DAC that uses isochronous transactions, but it is supposed to be working now. If you have one please test piCorePlayer with it and report your findings. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS F19 Release 1
Been meaning to add a thank you post to the thread for some time, but in light of the last couple days posts, wish I'd gotten to it sooner... Thank You JackofAll and all the rest for all the work to bring this project so far. I love my squeezebox system and I love my new Wandboard/CSOS player. I have barely begun the tinkering part, so I haven't been able to add much to the community, but as one of the many lurkers here, I truly value all the work that has gone into this so far. I find it hard to find the time just to tinker, so I am truly amazed at the amount of time being contributed by JackofAll and Triode as well as all the people who have been doing significant testing and feedback, plus John for all the work he's doing on the hardware side... Many, many thanks to all of you! CSOS is something special. The easy to use Web Interface belies the engine which purrs beneath the surface. A Rolls-Royce engine that's fine tuned to the hardware (Wandboard, Cubietruck, BBB?). Where else will you find kernels patched to deal with the hardware quirks and so optimise the performance of your Arm board? Let, alone the fully optimised base packages. Where else will you find a BBB doing upsampling at 384K, a Cubietruck SPDIF not limited to 16bit, etc. etc. etc. ? None of this grows on trees. It takes skill, knowledge, dedication and persistence to develop. I'm as guilty as the next person of taking the software I use on a daily basis for granted. Never giving a second to thought to the human endeavour that's brought it into existence. Like the old saying, you never miss it until it's gone. And now sadly JackOfAll has played the last post ... This is my last post. It's really not helping me posting anything, it seems. In the last 24 hours, directly as a result of my comments in this thread. a) I have been asked to sell the Community Squeeze "brand" and internet domain. (And that f'wit doesn't seem to understand the concept that the CS project isn't over, let alone the fact that there is nothing to sell. The name belongs to the community. It isn't mine to sell!) b) I've been offered a job. (Commercial player. Please bring all the work you've done on CS with you. Yeah, right. If I'd have wanted to build a commercial player I would have been working on an open source project, "giving away" the software and intending to supply the harware on a not-for-profit basis...) c) I've been offered money. (Don't remember asking for any.) d) I've had 3 requests for the images. (The F19 images are available to anyone. The F20 images, haven't been released and they are sure as hell not going to be released by another "entity" before CS has the chance to release them.) d) Conspiracy theory. (There is no f'ing conspiracy. I've retired from the project. End of. The project hasn't retired.) Guys, if you want to be smart, be patient, keep the conversation on track and don't speculate.
