Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCoPlayer = Squeezelite on Microcore linux. .An embedded OS in RAM with Squeezelite

2014-09-04 Thread Greg Erskine

Hi CommanderROR,

I have been testing this for most day, very exciting!!! I had the LMS
web interface viewing what was streaming.

Results with the latest (beta) piCorePlayer.

1. If you pull plug and reconnect within a couple of minutes the
playlist resumes at the beginning of track.
2. If you go nearly to the end of song, pull plug, then reconnect, the
playlist may resume at the next track.
3. If you pull plug, wait more than 5 minutes, reconnect, the playlist
is gone, it does not resume playing.

Results with the latest (beta) piCorePlayer and Squeezelite (January
2014)

1. to 3. identical to above

Results with Squeezebox Touch

1. to 3. identical to above

So I am beginning to think it is a really an issue with LMS. I am using
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.8.1 - 1401187905 @ Wed May 28 03:03:01
UTC 2014.

Some things I have learnt doing this.

1. On the LMS web interface the Track play time and time remaining,
continue to increment if you pull the plug while playing. So track play
time increments greater than song length and the time remaining goes
from negative to positive.
2. The terms "Power On" and "Power Off" refer to the soft power buttons
on the web interface, touch interface or iPeng interface not physical
pulling the plug or reconnection.
3. "Power On Resume" player setting works correctly for soft "Power On"
and "Power Off".

With my current level of understanding the best we could do would be to
have an piCorePlayer option where we could always generate and start
playing a random playlist (definitely possible) or automatically start a
predefined playlist (probably possible).

Hopefully more information will come to light.

regards

2014-09-04 Thread CommanderROR

@Greg Erskine
I was afraid you were going to ask...😉
I cannot say for sure, but I'm pretty certain it was somewhere around
version 1.10
My LMS settings haven't changed and neither has my network topology. I
also installed a Picoreplayer/Squeezeplug system for my parents, and it
atopped working there as well, so it is either part of PiCorePlayer, or
Squeezelite that changed and caused the problem...
Somehow it doesn't receive the signal from LMS anymore that tells it to
"resume" it"s former state. It defaults too "pause" when ot starts.

Hi Linvincible,

I guess this product could be made to work with piCorePlayer but may
require editing of the scripts. piCorePlayer uses piCore, which uses
shell not bash and busybox. This usually means minor changes to the
shell scripts. You will probably need to also load additional piCore
extensions.

I would recommend getting it working on Rasbian to verify the process
and confirm things work. Then transfer over to piCorePlayer.

You will have to be aware of what might happen if you reboot or upgrade
piCorePlayer. You may have to reinstall your scripts.

Hi CommanderROR,

What piCorePlayer version worked for you?

piCorePlayer just starts Squeezelite during the boot process. As far as
I know there was no special code in piCorePlayer to make Squeezelite
work the way it did. It was just a function of Squeezelite and LMS.

If you can confirm which combination of piCorePlayer and LMS works, then
we may be able to work out where the issue lies.

I agree. My Pi with USB DAC consumes about 3 W. Why should I leave it on

2014-09-04 Thread CommanderROR

@Apesbrain

What he's talking about is, that Picoreplayer always boots with
Squeezelite set to "Paused" instead of using the last state it was in.
This used to work better a few versions ago, then I could just cut the
power with Squeezelitr playing, and it would continue where it left off
when I turned it back on. This is very handy, but was broken somewhere
down the line, and nobody bothered to fix it so far, although there have
beem people asking about it from time to time.
Leaving the Pi on is not an option. It uses power all the time (not
much, bust still...) and also, my speakers turn on and off with the Pi,
so I need to cut it's power so they go to sleep...

If you are switching off power to the RPi you'll need to wait for it to
reboot; just leave it powered all the time and only switch power on the
radio circuitry.

Anyway, don't valves take some time to "warm up"? My valve DAC has a
circuit that won't unmute for at least a minute. That's plenty of time
for the RPi to boot PiCorePlayer.

I gather from this that changing is not all that straightforward.

I can fid in the unstable debian repository (via synapic) GLIBC 2.19,
but not either GLIBC 2.15 nor a version of ELIBC ablve 2.13.

Can anyone advise as to whether it is wise to install 2.19, and if so
whether it is likely to work with squeezelite. Otherwise, any advice on
how to update GLIBC to 2.15?

Firstly, one I posted above and didn't get answered. I couldn't get my

(as the ip.address is dynamic).

Secondly, I don't have write access to the share (which I need to alter
Dynamic Playlists), how do I achieve this? I think it might be down to
the uid,gid I used when mounting which I copied from CSOS. I have
uid=992,gid=users. Should this be changed? Or removed? Or is my issue to
do with something else?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)

2014-09-04 Thread bpa

1. Look at WebUI Settings/Information and note the full 1st Plugins
folder location path (probably starts with /home and ends with
Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins )
2. In the terminal window do the following commands in red - don't miss
the "." on the squeezelite command and in the "-l" is small letter L
cd
cd LocalPlayer/Bin
./squeezelite-x86-64 -l

I have tried opening a terminal window (and a root terminal window) and
typing (variously) "squeezelite", "squeezelite -l" & "start squeezelite"

each of which gets me the response "command not found"

I really do appreciate your help here. Yes debian recognises and lists
at the tip of the gnome window audio device SB X-Fi analog stereo.
LMS does successfully scan music files. My previous problem was my own
stupidity of having accidentally bookmarked the set-up screen
(/setup)instead of just IP:9000.
I note that the owner for squeezelite is squeezeboxserver.

And when you connect it according to Wiredcharlie diagram, what will be
the difference? Did you try?

Does squeezelite run ok from a shell prompt ?

Exactly correct! If you connect out this way, pressing the off switch on
your app kills the display backlight. It's a brilliant feature.

Apologies for asking stupid questions, but do you have an audio device
that is working under debian? If it does work, and if squeezeboxserver
belongs to the audio group, I don't know why there is no list of devices
on the local player settings page. There should be.

Has LMS successfully scanned your music files yet, and do the menus show
your music?

That's the extent of my experience with issues setting up local player,
so I hope someone else can help.

LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi running Xubuntu 14.04, FLACs 16->24 bit,
44.1->192kbps. Wired Touch + EDO, coax to Musical Fidelity M1 CLiC.
Wireless Xubuntu 14.04 laptop controls LMS via Chromium. Meridian
Explorer USB DAC to listen via Squeezelite on Vortexbox & other PCs as
required. Spare Touch in loft.
