[SlimDevices: Unix] usb remote control picoreplayer

2016-03-21 Thread foxsam

Does anyone have any experience setting up or using a usb remote control
with LMS or more specifically picoreplayer? I tried searching but get
more sites discussing software remotes and apps than the usb type of
remote control I am looking for.,
Thanks

It is in development We rely on our base operating system from
TinyCore (Check it out here
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/board,57.0.html). We probably
wont have a release until the system comes out of beta on
TinyCore.but who knows.

Thanks for the info, and yes, I plan to keep pCP/LMS on the SD card. The
external USB drive will only have music (FLAC files) stored on it.

Look for a product that is based on Raspbian. The Raspbian developers
get advanced warning of new hardware and obviously have the software
ready for launch day. Unfortunately the piCore team are not privy to the
Raspberry Pi Foundations new product releases and have to play catch-up
*after* the release of a product!

It should work as a native USB drive. It should show up as /dev/sda1
(If you only have one USB drive plugged in). You may want to change
the format of the drive.
Since pCP loads the root fs into ram, I would keep pCP running from the
SDcard, and just use the hard drive as a data storage device.

I would compare prices, there is no reason you cannot use a off the
shelf USB hard disk. I've had a 1TB MyBook hooked up for years.

Both these work:

Max2Play beta is pretty good

http://www.max2play.com/download/18906/

and Raspbian-lite or full is also possible (add in Squeezelite to use a
player)

http://raspberry.gerrelt.nl/

If headless is a bit daunting, then add a monitor and keyboard/mouse.

As said, good experience.

This describes how to install Raspbian on the PiDrive.

and this link also (from the above link)

https://tech.enekochan.com/en/2013/11/02/make-raspbian-run-from-an-external-usb-hard-drive-or-usb-memory-stick/

I would guess that following the same procedure would work with
PiCorePlayer.

If you have a spare SD card and hard disk, you can practise.:)

I've opted to add the -Z option from JackOfAll as it also allows the
user to choose the sample rate to report to the server.

So instead of -x you'd use -Z 384000

Many thanks Steen et al. I didn't realise that the Pi would be capable
of 'seeing' USB drives under PiCorePlayer. All my problems are now
solved and off I go to build it !!! Is there a USB drive capacity limit,
I quite fancy sticking an 8TB archive drive on it via USB ? Wouldn't
that be something !!

Hi Steen,

No problem, as I said the -G 13:H in various inputs works fine anyway.

I have updated to the latest Ralphy ffmpeg squeezelite v1.8.3-718 and is
the same (I believe the SL packaged with 2.03 does not run at all)

I think the parameter is not being passed to squeezelite from the config

Hi Jeff

Sorry for that, it is entirely my fault. I packed version 2.03 with an
old version of Squeezelite that can't use the -G option.
Try to update your Squeezelite from the main page - update Squeezelite.
Then I hope everything is working for you.

A similar error was identified on another thread. I suspect the version
of PERL is incompatible with something in SDT.

That's one way to see it. Another one could be that SDT is using an
instruction which is not compatible with more strict Perl versions. Perl
is even kind enough to give you the solution to your problem. Just get
rid of the "defined". It's an easy fix.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 2.00

2016-03-21 Thread SeanMiddleton

I'm trying to set up Jivelite running under PiCorePlayer on Raspberry Pi
with Touch screen. Everything is working perfectly and I can connect the
PicorePLayer to my Vortexbox running LMS. All works well.

When the piCoreplayer (Jivelite) is turned off I want to display the
photographs which are stored on my vortexbox in
folder'../storage/pictures'. When I set up the screen saver in Jivelight
to do this I have the option to add a custom location for my pictures,
so I simply enter /storage/pictures But this doesn't seem to work. I've
tried all sorts of variants on /storage/pictures but Jivelite seems
unable to locate the images. The default image screensaver works fine
and picks up images from the web OK

Anybody got any idea what address I should be using for my images ??

OnOn
Sean
