This was meant for the "pro" boards. The first versions of the board
interfered with the rpi3 wifi. I'm not sure when they fixed the
problem.

it's probably me justing wanting to do it for the sake of doing it
rather than any logical reason, but I do like the idea of having a boot
file on the sd card and the 'core' OS and config files hosted on my nas.

now, just wondering aloud here - for those updates that currently
require a total rewrite of the uSD card, would this allow me a 'no easy
access' build eg. the Pi could be buried in an amplifier, where access
to the SD card is time consuming/PITA.
and, if config changes were required would it be a case of SSH into the
client Pi or would it be better if the config was also remote and a
plain text file for easy updates ??
or is it more likely a case of having seperate images for each client
hosted on the NAS therefore defeating my desire to have a singular pCP
image hosted ??

Again, thanks for your efforts, I've started reading up on U-boot and
other ideas like that, it's quite mad what a little Pi is capable of
these days :)

that file plays fine for me. running pCP 3.11, internal wifi rPi3,
hifiberry digi+ coax out to a audio-gd dac. a number of 44.1 and 48

hi Francis-Kabrel,

Sorry to hear about your issue.

It sounds like your USB device falls off after you power it down and it
doesn't automatically reconnect when you power it on.

Hmmm... I am not sure what to do but I hope someone can help.

Thanks for doing that. Good to know the files are OK. I have tried
96KHz with 3.11 (WiFi), 3.11 Audio (WiFi), 3.20beta5 (WiFi),
3.20beta6audio (LAN connection) all with the same result.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Netbooting piCorePlayer 3.x

2017-04-12 Thread epoch1970

Yes a Pi 3 can netboot clients, I can't tell how many because atm I have
a single Pi serving alternatively as client and server... But since the
OS is light, the Pi should be able to manage quite a few clients
simultaneously. I expect to be able to test for 5 clients booting
simultaneously.

You can't netboot from wifi on Pi 3. With an external ethernet-wifi
bridge that should work, though. Actually I have an old "gaming adapter"
somewhere, I could verify that...

If you keep a system on an SD, then I think you're somewhat looking at
an upgrade system like pCP has already.

One way would be to have the iPhone play http://lms:9000/stream.mp3
and then you will see it appear as a player in LMS that you can control
as normal.

I expect that something like iPeng and then use its local player would
be even better.

You would have to edit ~/www/cgi-bin/pcp-functions
One way to do it would be to change the 8.8.8.8 that is in there to an
external IP address that you know that you can reach (if you want it to
be a real test of Internet being reachable) or make it an internal
address (e.g. your router) if you want to check that you are connected
to something.

so ssh into pCP (login as tc with whatever you have changed the password
to) and then vi www/cgi-bin/pcp-functions
then move down to the line with 8.8.8.8 in it (type /8.8.8.8)
then remove the 8.8.8.8 (type x a few times)
then insert your new one (type i and then your replacement IP address)
then
ESC Key
then
:wq

(vi is not a great editor to use if your are not familiar with it but I
have not checked to see which other editors are in pCP).

probably need to do a pCP backup to make that survive a reboot (but I
have not checked)
type
pcp bu

Maybe pCP team could put that 8.8.8.8 into the pCP config so that it
could be modified from web UI.

I am new to the Apple world but need to setup something this time, to
play music in my new car that will only accept an iPhone as a source.
iPod not reconized...
Can we stream from PicorePlayer TO the iPhone somehow? And use the Music
default application, since it's the only one recognized by carplay.
Thanks in advance for the tips!

Just checked and this flac file plays on my Digi+ Pro on a rpi2 using
pcp 3.11, standard kernel and I can play a standard 44.1K flac right
afterward using coax.

Code:

$ cat /proc/asound/sndrpihifiberry/pcm0p/info
  card: 0
  device: 0
  subdevice: 0
  stream: PLAYBACK
id: HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro HiFi wm8804-spdif-0
  name:
  subname: subdevice #0
  class: 0
  subclass: 0

  $ cat /proc/asound/sndrpihifiberry/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
  access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
  format: S32_LE
  subformat: STD
  channels: 2
  rate: 96000 (96000/1)
  period_size: 960

  $ cat /proc/asound/sndrpihifiberry/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
  access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED

  subformat: STD
  channels: 2

Are you using the audio kernel?

2017-04-12 Thread huxmut

hey epoch1970, thanks a lot for this. this idea has interested me for a
while ...

this question is more for steen and pCP dev guys, is it possible to have
to have a pi3 (or other NAS/server) as a LMS and a netboot master of
everything ?

i guess i'd love if the client Pi's could have a uSD card with the basic
info to get it started, like wifi password and i2s dac config and
whatever else might be different across the clients.
that way i only need to update a single Pi when there is a new version
of pCP

i realise that you guys are super busy with other things. maybe add it
to the "one day i'll get around to it" list :)

thanks again

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.10

2017-04-12 Thread jacobacci

Hi all
I am having problems playing DSD files to a PCM DAC. Here are the
details of my setup

System configuration: Raspberry Pi 3
piCorePlayer v3.11 | linux 4.4.39-pcpAudioCore_v7+ | piCore v8.0 |
Squeezelite v1.8.6-830 |
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 1453293926 @ Thu Jan 21 04:09:26
UTC 2016
Synology DS1815+ on DSM 6.1 15047 Update 2

Playing DSD Files to PCM DAC works using an ancient SB3, so the
configuration of LMS seems to be ok.
Using the RP3 / piCorePlayer streams the file ok, but the DAC does not
give any sound. So I suspect the file is being streamed in DoP, instead
of being converted DSD -> PCM by LMS.

I suspect I have missed one of the settings in squeezelite.
One thing that came to my mind: The field Squeezelite Settings / Device
supports DoP is empty. Do I neet to put anything there?

Grateful for any help.
Thanks a lot
