I do have an unused Max2Play licence and my TV HDMI is CEC enabled. But
I don't have the time to experiment I'm afraid. I'll watch with interest
and see where this goes.

Never liked the word Beta there. Sometimes it really is a Beta option,
but in other cases, it's marked Beta if it writes to the SD card.

Anyway, glad you like it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 2.00

2017-08-22 Thread Greg Erskine

hi andreame,

I'd recommend always use Ethernet wire from your LMS server to the
network via a router. That will be more reliable as you add players
either via cable or wireless. Always try and avoid double wireless
routing.

Generally, you should connect end devices to routers or switches rather
than trying to bridge them.

regards
Greg

You have no connection to the internet from the "Player only" pi unless
you've bridged ether to wifi on "Pi Server" or arrange a route on the
"server pi"
You have a connection from the "Player Pi" to the "Server Pi" hence you
can play music from the server but not from the internet
As Paul- says proxied streaming may work

The only drawback would be if you do a lot of typing. This might be
awesome with an on screen keyboard and a TV remote.
As Paul says: there is no need for individual configuration files for
TV/remote combinations. If a TV is CEC capable, it should work with any
CEC capable application on the Raspberry. You might want to fetch a SD
card and install Kodi just to get an idea how smooth the integration
is.
In my (amateur) point of view, to enable jivelite for CEC, the CEC
library libcec (http://libcec.pulse-eight.com) would have to be "docked"
to the software interface where jivelite also gets (and translates) the
commands received by LIRC. But I recognize that my vision might be
somewhat simplified ;)

I'm no network expert, but i'd try connecting the 'player' Pi to the
router, either cable or wifi.
if you can, use ethernet cable for both Pi's into the router
