Yes I'm aware of the wonderfully easy way one can add extra storage to
pCP. I simply wanted to not have to keep manually balancing what goes
where on several HDDs. Many thank Claus for your reseach and help. I'm
afraid I'm a bit "long in the tooth" to start getting in too deeply with
Linux programming. I've made too many annoying blunders lately so I'll
give LVM a miss and compensate by splashing out on a new, bigger HDD.

Cheers

I've added some links to 'this post'

It'll be great if you can parcel this up into a dtoverlay. I have one
of 'these' (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07MH93747) arriving
today. No buttons or audio, so parts of such an overlay would be
redundant I guess (I'm not sure which bits you plan to include in the
overlay), but the display looks like the one used on the Pirate Audio
audio board, and uses the same driver, so the display setup and the 240
skin should all work out of the box I hope.

Can you perhaps update the OP with all of the latest instructions.
Also, can you give references to where you got the flexfb and
fbtft_device driver init strings from?

2020-01-27 Thread M-H

Chill,
The modprobes at the right moment do help a lot.
Not far in the boot process the output switches to the SPI display.
And the flashscreen is quite fast after that - Jivelite seems working
OKE

Paul-
The suggestion of *gpio=25=op,dh* in te config.txt does help.
Without it the right channel did output Left and Right at hal volume,
like it was in mono mode
But the Left channel did output left only, and with some crisp ticks at
loud volumes.
Still using the generic TI5102 driver though.

I did some reading on the used DAC+Damps they are the MAX98357A DAC /
amplifier chip.
Looking at the typical deployments it seems they are set into left or
right or mono mode with resistors.
If they divide voltage though or from an other signal.. GPIO 25, F.I.
Setting it is needed for proper operation.
We can build this into PCP-Gui, and have this config.txt part set when
choosing Pirate Audio boards.

Chill, Grumpy Bob, Yatsushiro and Paul- ,
please test with this , and report what results are detected , with what
board. ( headset, line-out, speakers-out or speaker-onboard )
I hope we can confirm there is just 1 setting for the whole range. As is
suggested from the Pimoroni examples on their website.

I did notice that, and I included it to see if it made any difference.
The DACs on both of my boards were working without it, and they work
exactly the same with it. It appears to be unnecessary.

Today I got a Micro HDMI to HDMI cable and could test the output of
piCorePlayer. So I can say that always a "pcp sd" is executed, also when
I press longer. But that is Ok for me, I only need switching off. I will
only start a reboot via the webpage. But now it is clear that the
command is executed and that is the great part!

Now I saw the following:

Code:

Finished piCorePlayer v6.0.0-b7 startup.

To setup piCorePlayer, use the web interface via a browser:

  Press [Enter] to access console.

In the background, ntpd is syncing time between piCorePlayer and the internet.
A large offset between 1970 and now is normal.
  /bin/sh: vcgencmd: not found

It seems that the first time the command to get the actual temperature
is not working. But I think that this is no real problem.

My ALSA settings are whatever pCP creates as the defaults - I haven't
touched them. The only thing I have changed is to set the output device
the the HiFiBerry device noted previously. I haven't even disabled the
on-board audio, and the sound plays perfectly. Have you checked that
the speker wires aren't touching each other where they enter the
push-fit connectors on the board?

I'm confused about what could be going on with sbpd-script.sh. Can you
confirm that you see the boot up messages prior to the splash screen if
you don't have sbpd-script.sh as an automatic user command, but that
when you add it in as a user command you do NOT see anything prior to
the splash screen? This makes no sense to me, because the only
difference between having it as a script and running it manually is the
timing. Perhaps you could add a 10 second delay at the start of
sbpc-script.sh to see if it makes any difference?

Code:

#!/bin/sh

  sleep 10

  # start pigpiod deamon
  pigpiod -t 0
  sleep 1

  # load uinput module - required to be able to send keystrokes
  .
  .
  .

I've been looking at the framebuffer setup, and I noticed that the
initialisation string we've been using so far is not the same as the one
that Pimoroni defined on their 'github page'
So I've taken their settings and converted them to an init string.
I've also reformatted it slightly so that it's easier to decipher. So
it might be worth changing the two modprobe commands in
/opt/bootlocal.sh to match mine. Ah - waydaminit - I'll bet the
location of these modprobe commands has a bearing on this. Have you
(and/or Grumpy Bob) got these modprobe commands after pcp_startup.sh by
any chance? My /opt/bootlocal.sh now looks like this:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
  # put other system startup commands here

  GREEN="$(echo -e '\033[1;32m')"

  #modprobe flexfb setaddrwin=0 width=240 height=240

It is set to ask every time, I tried them all, the setting doesn't honor
if you are using Jivelite, in Sqeezeplay all is good.

I tried every skin in Jivelite and I even copied the whole Joggler skin
folder from Squeezeplay to Jivelite and it works fine until you select a
song and the same happens.

Is there somewhere in Jivelite that is hard coded to just "play"?

What is the value of the player *Defeat destructive Touch-To-Play*

As a test, if you change the skin in jivelite to match the one that

Press and hold the function keys F1 - F10 to set what's currently
playing to presets 1-10.

Press the number keys 1 through 0 to play the corresponding preset.

You can also define/edit presets through LMS 7.9.2 or higher.

Well I'm thoroughly confused in that case. The sbpd script file only
runs after pCP has finished all it's other boot up tasks, including
starting Jivelite. Here's an extract from my pcp_boot.log, which
flashes past on screen during boot up:

Code:

  .
  .
  .
  Starting Squeezelite and/or Shairport-sync...
[ INFO ] *Starting Squeezelite player: Squeezelite...
  Done.*
  Starting httpd web server... Done.
  Starting user commands... Done.
Setting CPU scaling governor to ondemand... Done.
  STARTING JIVELITE... DONE.
  Loading Keytables... Done.
  Creating static footer... Done.

  *sbpd* -v b,5,KEY:KEY_EQUAL,2,0,KEY:KEY_SPACE,250
b,6,KEY:KEY_MINUS,2,0,KEY:KEY_Q,250 b,16,KEY:KEY_UP,2,0,KEY:KEY_RIGHT,250
b,20,KEY:KEY_DOWN,2,0,KEY:KEY_ESC,250
  .
  .
  .

The last line in the above snippet is an echo of the final line of
sbpd-script.sh.

So I don't see how it's possible for the running of
/home/tc/sbpd-script.sh, as the final step of the startup sequence, to
suppress the on screen messages. I'm hoping one of the pCP guys can
offer some suggestions.

How odd. The boot up messages should appear, because that all takes
place long before Jivelite or sbpd attempt to start.

So you never see the boot up messages? You should see the normal
console messages if you've got the two 'modprobe' commands in
/opt/bootlocal.sh and if you've added 'fbcon=map:10 fbcon=font:VGA8x16'
to the end of cmdline.txt. Note that the text in cmdline.txt should be
one continuous line, with spaces between each parameter, like this:

Code:

tz=GMT0BST,M3.5.0/1,M10.5.0 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_mask=0xF host=piCorePlayer
dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=tty1 root=/dev/ram0 elevator=deadline rootwait
quiet nortc loglevel=3 noembed smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N noswap consoleblank=0
waitusb=2 fbcon=map:10 fbcon=font:VGA8x16

If you've perhaps missed the space between 'waitusb=2' and
'fbcon=map:10', or perhaps you've added these extra parameters on the
next line, that could explain why you're not seeing the boot up
messages.

It seems it's been superseded by 'BBEdit'
(http://www.barebones.com/store/UpgradeToBBEdit.html). I haven't tried
that, but apparently the free version has all the same features as
TextWrangler.

If I reboot via the Main page of the PCP web interface, I see the usual
shutdown messages, finishing with "Requesting system reboot". This
screen remains once the Pi has booted, squeezelite is running and music
can be heard.

If I reboot by powering down the Pi, then powering up, squeezelite
eventually starts and music can be heard. Buttons A and B seem to work
(long press A raise volume to max, long press B mutes it). The screen
remains black.

I can see a process {jivelite.sh} /bin/sh /opt/jivelite/bin/jivelite.sh
via top.

Robert

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Using Argon One case with fan and powerbutton together with piCorePlayer?

Ok. That is easy.

The LMS is running now without any problem and the Pi 4 runs at 45°C,
which is Ok I think. Even if I build the database new the temperature
stays at this value.

The last two times the file systems are clean after switching off via
powerbutton.
Regarding the switching off via the powerbutton. Is it possible to see
online without a display attached to see if "pcb rb" or "pcp sd" is
executed? Maybe via tail -f .log?
