[SlimDevices: Unix] LMS Setup Network Disk Mount to NAS

2020-05-19 Thread romanempire

Hi All,

A little puzzle that might be more to do with my ignorance than anything
else. My background is mostly Wintel although I have wrestled with
Linux, BSD, Solaris, etc. My topology is:-

NAS (Qnap TS-251)
SharesMusic (all music ;-) )
¦__ slimserver (to hold LMS data and cache)
¦__ {various others...}
¦
¦
¦
RPi3/pCP/LMS
¦
¦
¦
{several RPi3/pCP players}

So I set the following:-

30343

(FYI - to make this work I found the NAS by default only accepted SMB 1
to 2.1. To change it:-

NAS Control Panel
-Network & File Services
--Win/Mac/NFS
---Microsoft Networking
Advanced Options button

Change "Highest SMB version:" to SMB3

Apply, Apply)

But what I get is this:-

30346

And when I go to move the data and cache to the dedicated share:-

30345

Your guidance would be appreciated.

Give your two mount points different names.
You probably thought that the share name is appended ... it isn't.

You can give the mount point any name you like, It's just an identifier.

2020-05-19 Thread paul-

That's a crazy setup. Running wireshark on your PC likely wont help, as
the WOL packet is sent to a specific Mac Address (Not broadcast) The
switches will filter that activity going to your PC.
Try sending the WOL packet to your PC's mac address. That will at
least tell you if its getting there.

My guess is that the "Travel Router" is blocking the activity.
Connect the pi via the ethernet port to the same switch the NAS is
plugged into to validate things are woking.

Thank you both. That's clearer. I'd assumed the 'mount point' was a
reference to an actual entity or path but its more like a 'drive letter'
in Windows.

So now I have:-

30347

But I'm a little puzzled why the radio button is not showing against the
currently set item:-

30348

Is this expected behaviour or a bug?

Cheers,

On Windows I use Win32 Disk Imager v1.0

https://win32diskimager.download/

Tick the box "Read only allocated partitions"

and this will copy the "Resize FS" partion of pCP. So you have a pCP
install on a 8gb card, and the FS has been expanded to 500Mb, the copy
is 500 Mb and will burn to a 4gb card at that size.

Using Windows it is best to always type in the .img when filling in the
Image File box.

If one has a copy of Raspbian Desktop on a SD card (and why not ?) there
is PiShrink

https://github.com/Drewsif/PiShrink

which will reduce the size of a copied or cloned image.

So, using the previous example of a 8gb card that has been fully
expanded, PiShrink will reduce that to a minimum size. One needs a spare
usb stick or card reader for this.

Hope this helps:)

Code:

  mount | grep -E 'cifs|nfs' | awk -F' on ' '{print $2}' | cut -d ' ' -f1

to see which network devices pCP thinks are mounted (which is what that
radio button means).

The other reason for my request for an app-level backup is that there is
no easy sd-card access on my SmartiPi case.
Though Greg may only take a couple of mins to configure his PCP it took
me several hours (elapsed) inc LMS scan, and I've still not done all the
various screen brightness and screen saver bits sorted out on Jivelite,
oh and Replaygain player settings etc. etc.

hi SteveLazer,

This is probably a network issue but normally you will get timeout
errors. Try it again, but don't wait for hours. Try a reboot also.

On the bottom right hand side of the screen there is a tab to select our
mirror repo.

I added the MAC address in Jivelite, but later on I entered in the
Tweaks page and the MAC address was there too. So I assumed they were
equivalent.

I thought the -b switch would make it a broadcast.

Anyway... I was working today when I heard the NAS starting up (the fan
is quite noisy, I need to replace it). I went upstairs and my wife had
just turned on the piCorePlayer. So I guess it fixed itself somehow. Go
figure...

I appreciate your help. If it starts acting up again, I already have a
couple of things to try.

Thank you both,

VMat

I added WOL in piCorePlayer and I was unaware of WOL in Jivelite, so
there is no connection between the too software wise.

I had the impression that the options in Jivelite were just an
accessible UI to configure the piCorePlayer WOL without having to access
the pCP web interface.

You are right! I don't do any of the Jivelite programing and wasn't
aware that someone had added it to Jivelite. (The truth is I probably
forgot about it )
