brute force turning off the USB power to allow the DAC to go into
standby. The link provides an alternative and better way to achieve the
same thing. Another way to allow the DAC to enter standby is to select
an unused input. The optical input also does not allow standby if the
light is still present when the source is off.

Thank you for your advice, I'll keep an eye on it, but right now I'm not
experience any pop going from DSD to PCM, nor when the E30 wakes up from
standby.
Anyway, after playing with bluetooth config the problem I was describing
has disappeared. I really don't know how, because the things I was
working on were not related to DAC config or USB config. Finally I have
paired my E30 with a BC3 to add LDAC bluetooth receiving capabilities as
lately I'm using Amazon HD much more. Now the system is back, up and
running in no-time.

You can also use VFAT or ExFAT for the LMS database. I am using a HFS+
partition for the music files (this is mounted read-only), as it is a
1:1 copy from my Music-program on my Mac. All is possible.
I changed the filesystem for my LMS database on an USB stick to ext4
last week. Before it was exFAT.

There are a few main reasons.
1) New versions get new hardware support. (Most are captured on the
Opening Post)
2) New versions get all of the feature updates. (Which are listed on the
Opening Post)
3) Old versions no longer receive updates.

Otherwise you are perfectly fine to stay on old versions. Probably the
biggest reason to get off of pCP6 is that it uses openssl 1.1.0, which
is now obsolete. In the future(I cannot predict when) it will affect
https connections to internet streaming.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0

2020-12-27 Thread P Nelson

Last week, I installed picCore 6.1.0, and running LMS v8. After a few
minor issues, I have it up and running and I can communicate with the
3B+. I see there is a new version of 7.0.0 and I am wondering if I
should upgrade. On the first post of this thread, I clearly understood
the following:

Includes support for RPi 400, and CM4 modules.
  Support for 64 bit processors

To be honest, I did not understand most of the highlights of the new
version.

I am using a 3B+, unless I want to use the 64 bit version, is there a
reason to upgrade at this time? What are the new capabilities or
features?

Thank you

Paul

So if it's just memory handling then it sounds as there will be little
benefit given the addressing overhead with a 4GB Pi4? I saw that
Raspbian 64 bit beta only appeared once the 8GB model came out.
Can LMS address more than 4GB if the database memory config is set to
maximum?

Hi Paul

I just had another check, and it doesn't look like they get added. I
set back to USB, removed the lines I'd manually added, rebooted, changed
it back to HDMI, rebooted, and squeezlite wouldn't load. I checked
config.txt and those lines aren't there - adding them manually and
squeezelite works fine again.

I had the same problem when I did a clean install of 7.0 as well, which
is what made me go and look for it again.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this project. It is a month I have a RPI4 4gb and a USB DAC
to play with.
I have just done a fresh install of piCorePlayer 7.0.0 64bit on a RPI4
4GB. I have done my standard config adding a 64gb USB for music and
configuring LMS, material, and USB DAC (Topping E30).
I'm experiencing a strange behavior... when I turn off the DAC, after
5-6 seconds it turns back on. To be sure that nothing was playing on
piCore, I have tried to reboot it first and then switch off the DAC, but
nothing has changed. I have also detached everything from the DAC
inputs, leaving only USB attached. This append only when it is connected
the RPI, like there is a signal sent to DAC. It was not happening when I
first updated to piCorePlayer 7.0.0 32bit from 6.1.
Any clue about what is happening? What can I try?

Thanks.

with Win32diskimager, *write* the piCoreplayer 7.0 image to the SD card.
No need to use the "verification" option in win32diskimager. I recall I
get an error like that if i try to do the verify AFTER writing the
image. So just write, then insert the SD card in your rPi and connect
to network. In my own case, I couldn't use the "'http://pcp.local\; to
find the IP address of my rPi.

' (http://pcp.local) Instead, just use some sort of free IP scanner
software on a computer or smart phone on your network, or login to your
router to see what's connected, etc. Then once you find it, just go to
a web browser and enter that IP address, e.g.:
http://192.168.1.132

Although write is successful when I try verifying in Win32 I get a
''verification failed at sector 8192'' message''. RPi/pcp won't show up
on network.

I'm recovering from Covid and my brain is really foggy which makes

64bit really only has a benefit with memory handling.but that
encompasses everything. The biggest issue with 64bit are related to
some of the Broadcom chip proprietary libraries are only available in
32bit. But those do not come into play with pCP, as we do not use the
graphics part of the chipset.

Just use a spare SD card and give it a try.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0

2020-12-27 Thread psketch

Hi

When I created new images for my PCPs for 7, I was reminded of an HDMI
problem, which is perhaps more relevant now with the different handling
of HDMI in the new kernel.

If you're using HDMI output, not all devices show as connected if the
display or amp isn't on, or isn't switched to the correct input. In the
old kernel, Squeezelite would still start, but not output video to the
HDMI port. Now, with the seperation of HDMI and headphone, if you
select HDMI output, but don't have that display turned on when you do
it, Squeezelite won't start because the HDMI devices aren't available.

To make this work reliably, you need to add

Code:

hdmi_force_hotplug=1
  hdmi_drive=2

to config.txt. hdmi_force_hotplug=1 sets the pi to use HDMI mode even
if no HDMI monitor is detected. hdmi_drive=2 sets the pi to normal HDMI
mode (Sound will be sent if supported and enabled). Without this line,
the pi would switch to DVI (with no audio) mode by default.

I wonder if it's worth adding a "Force HDMI Output" tweak to the tweaks
page to write this to config.txt

I did have a dig around the Squeezelite GitHub repository yesterday

You need to set the screen resolution to 1920 x 1080 in the Jivelite
settings in the Jivelite section of the pCP web setup page first.

After a reboot you can then use the HD Skin (1920 x 1080)

I do exactly what you want to do, I use IR remote though for control.

It is turning out to be a lot more hassle than it's worth particularly
using a Bluetooth mouse which doesn't really play nicely with Raspberry
Pi. Others have similar issues on other Linux variants where the mouse
will continually connect and disconnect after a reboot.

Hi Michael,
thanks for the reply. So probably it is something with permissions or
users...
Let me first map the config to a map r/w for all users I have on the

The most likely cause is that you're setting a skin resolution that the

My network is unencrypted . we are 0.5km away from public!

The players were using "#Maintained by user" in the wpa_supplicant.conf.
I have tried setting up a test encrypted SSID. AND it all works
perfectly!

So the problem seems to be that the Security Mode will NOT accept OPEN.
When I first set up WiFI I seem to remember I had problem using the PCP
interface hence why i maintained my own wpa_supplicant.conf file. But
even that seems to be broken. I can set up a dedicated secured channel
on my WAPS but I have 8 of them and it is rather painful setting up a
dedicated channel for PCP.

Just to flag the issue in case you have a suggestion. My original
wpa_supplicant.conf was

network={
ssid="Vicarage"
key_mgmt=NONE
auth_alg=OPEN
}
