Thank you very much Paul-, after installing the "Streamer for Audio Input" on the pCP Tweaks page the Bluetooth Streamer mode is indeed working. It was not immediately clear to me how to enter the URL of the pCP streaming server in LMS. I figured out that I could enter the URL via LMS Home => Radio => Tune in URL, and save the URL as a Favorite. I am not sure if this is the best way, but it works. Btw, I noticed that this audio stream can also be played back in web browsers like Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. => Suggestion that I have for the next version of piCorePlayer is to add some extra help text on the Bluetooth page under section "Device Pairing/Selection", where the user needs to select the Bluetooth operation mode / device type for connected bluetooth devices. In my opinion it would help a lot if the explanation about the 3 device types that is given in the first post in this thread is added to the web page via a more> section. Now I would like to try the *Streamer* mode. I have used the forum Search as well as Google, but I could not find a description of how to set up this mode. Scenario that I have in mind is as follows: Stream audio track from smartphone to pCP via Bluetooth, and play this track on another squeezebox player in the network via LMS. Questions that I have: - Is this scenario possible using the Streamer mode? If so, how to set this up? - For this mode to work is it required that LMS runs on pCP? I burned the original PCP6.1.0 image to the SD card and apart from selecting the proper audio output device on the Squeezelite Settings page (in my case Hifiberry DAC Zero) I did not change any setting. Then I installed the Jivelite extension on the Tweaks page, and after reboot checked that Jivelite was working as expected. I checked that in the piCorePlayer menu option "Enable Power On Button when Powered Off" was enabled, and that the POWER button was behaving according to this setting (pressing first time => Power off, playback stops; pressing second time => Playback resumes). Then I updated to the test jivelite extension following your instructions. Observations after updating to the test jivelite extension: * Behaviour of PLAYPAUSE button of my remote control has not changed, it still behaves like a PLAY button * I can't enter the piCorePlayer menu item anymore * Behaviour of POWER button has changed. Pressing first time => Power off, playback stops; pressing second time => playback starts for a fraction of a second but then almost immediately stops again. After selecting a screensaver for "When off", after pressing POWER for the first time playback stops and the screensaver is shown. After pressing POWER for the second time the Now Playing screen is shown for a fraction of a second (and sometimes I hear a very short audio glitch) but then the screensaver is shown again. I am not sure why the test jivelite works different in my environment than in yours. Maybe it is because I have a different Raspberry Pi Model (ZeroW) that uses different kernel modules? I am just guessing now. For now the "normal" jivelite version that comes with pCP 6.1.0 works better for me, so I will revert to the configuration that I had before updating to the test jivelite. If I unplug the power supply, wait a few seconds and then plug in the power supply again then after reboot I can still not navigate into the piCorePlayer menu item. Another observation is that after installation of the test jivelite extension the behavior of the POWER button has changed, as if setting "Enable Power On Button when Powered Off" has been disabled. Note that I now installed the test jivelite on a customized pCP installation (installed FFmpeg libraries, Bluetooth extension, evtest extension, hdmi-power-on-off-script, customized InputToActionMap.lua, etc). => I will check what happens when I start from scratch using the downloaded pCP6.1.0 image, only install jivelite on the Tweaks page, and then update to the test jivelite. If I navigate to a track in my library and press the PLAYPAUSE key then indeed the track starts to play, both before and after installing the test jivelite. If this means that you can't map KEY_PLAYPAUSE to KEY_PAUSE without breaking other remotes than I agree that we can better stop our attempts to make the PLAYPAUSE key functional. | LMS 7.9.3 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC+ Zero | CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112709 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] [piCorePlayer] Customization of RF remote control keys?
Thanks Ralphy for spending time on making KEY_PLAYPAUSE functional! I followed your instructions for installation of the test pcp-jivelite extension. Unfortunately it does not work as expected. These are my observations: 1) The PLAYPAUSE button still does not work, i.e. audio playback is not paused. When I press the PlayPause button the only thing that happens is that the jivelite GUI moves a few millimeter to the right on the connected monitor and then within a fraction of a second moves back to its original position. 2. I can't enter the piCorePlayer menu (Home => Settings => piCorePlayer) anymore. So I also can't check if the Dutch translation of menu item "MENU_ENABLE_POWER_ON_BUTTON_WHEN_OFF" has changed. When selecting the piCorePlayer menu item and pressing the OK button I only see the short movement of the GUI (same as when pressing the PlayPause button). FYI, I copied the updated pcp-jivelite.tcz file from the pCP SD Card to my Windows PC and inspected the content with 7-zip. I found that /opt/jivelite/share/jive/applets/piCorePlayer/strings.txt does contain the updated translations for menu item "MENU_ENABLE_POWER_ON_BUTTON_WHEN_OFF" Based on my observations, do you have an idea what goes wrong? | LMS 7.9.3 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC+ Zero | CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112709 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

After enabling the Power On button in Settings -> Picoreplayer the Power button behaviour is indeed as I want it. Thanks Ralphy. PS: The reason that I did not select the proper setting for the Power button is that I was wrong-footed by an incorrect translation (normally I have the Dutch language (Nederlands) selected in Jivelite advanced settings). English text says: "*Enable* Power On Button when Powered Off" While the Dutch text says (translated back to English): "*Show* Power On/Off Button when Player is Powered Off". Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] [piCorePlayer] Customization of RF remote control keys?
One more question about the response of Jivelite/LMS on pressing button KEY_POWER on my RF/USB remote control. The response on pressing this button is not as I expected. I made following observation: In file InputToActionMap.lua, keys["q"] and [KEY_POWER] are both mapped on action "power": charActionMappings.press ["q"] = "power", keyActionMappings.press [KEY_POWER] = "power", Yet the reaction of LMS on pressing q and pressing KEY_POWER appears to be different: - pressing q *toggles power* (pressing q first time => power off, pressing q again => power on) - pressing KEY_POWER gives *power off* (pressing KEY_POWER first time => power off, pressing KEY_POWER again => player stays off). To power the player on after pressing KEY_POWER I need to press a different key, for example a numerical key or the KEY_HOMEPAGE button. My preference would be that pressing KEY_POWER toggles power. *Question to Raplhy*: Can it be explained why pressing the POWER button results in a different action than pressing q? For completeness the full output of evtest on pressing KEY_POWER after selecting event2 is given below: Code: sudo evtest No device specified, trying to scan all of /dev/input/event* Available devices: /dev/input/event0: FREEWAY TECHNOLOGY RFIC-MOUSE Keyboard /dev/input/event1: FREEWAY TECHNOLOGY RFIC-MOUSE Consumer Control /dev/input/event2: FREEWAY TECHNOLOGY RFIC-MOUSE System Control /dev/input/event3: FREEWAY TECHNOLOGY RFIC-MOUSE /dev/input/event4: FREEWAY TECHNOLOGY RFIC-MOUSE Select the device event number [0-4]: 2 Input driver version is 1.0.1 Input device ID: bus 0x3 vendor 0x25a7 product 0x2402 version 0x101 Input device name: "FREEWAY TECHNOLOGY RFIC-MOUSE System Control" Supported events: Event type 0 (EV_SYN) Event type 1 (EV_KEY) Event code 116 (KEY_POWER) Event code 139 (KEY_MENU) Event code 142 (KEY_SLEEP) Event code 143 (KEY_WAKEUP) Event type 4 (EV_MSC) Event code 4 (MSC_SCAN) Properties: Testing ... I do have the Bluetooth extension installed, so maybe then the -C option was set. I suppose that with the -C option disabled I need to turn off the squeezelite player (such that also the HDMI output is switched off) to be able to play audio from a bluetooth source. The only disadvantage that I see with the existing script is that the HDMI output is switched off in case that playback is paused, since apparently the power state ( variable $1) of the squeezelite player is set to 0 when playback is paused. @WadDad, are there other situations in which the screen is turned OFF while you would want to keep it ON? paul- wrote: > The script is called from Squeezelite based on the power state in LMS. > So LMS tracks the state. paul- wrote: > vcgencmd needs to run with root access. Pretty much everything in pCP > is running under root anyway. Which is why we don't have a ton of udev > rules to change device permissions. Hi Paul and paul-, Thanks for your help. I can confirm that when I run vcgencmd as root I can turn on and off the HDMI output. This is what I did. First I installed rpi-vc.tcz by setting HDMI power to "off" on the Tweaks page. After reboot, the HDMI output is turned off at the end of the boot sequence and the connected monitor goes in standby mode. When I then type: "sudo vcgencmd display_power 1" the HDMI output is turned on, and the Jivelite GUI is displayed on the connected monitor And when I then type: "sudo vcgencmd display_power 0" the HDMI output is turned off, and the connected monitor goes in standby mode. And then typing: "sudo vcgencmd display_power 1" turns on the HDMI output again. When I then use the power button on the Remote Control to turn off pCP, the audio stops and the screen turns black, but the monitor does not go in standby mode, indicating that the HDMI output stays ON. So now I need to figure out if I can issue command "sudo vcgencmd display_power 1" at the end of the boot sequence (and when turning on pCP after the player was turned off), and issue command "sudo vcgencmd display_power 0" after turning off the player. I will try if I can get this to work on one of the coming days. And of course suggestions on how to accomplish this are welcome. | LMS 7.9.3 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC | CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112748 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] [piCorePlayer] Customization of RF remote control keys?
Hi Ralphy, I was thinking, when you make the next update of Jivelite for piCorePlayer (maybe for the next version of piCorePlayer?), can you consider to add "KEY_PLAYPAUSE" to the jive framework and to InputToActionMap.lua? This would help people that use an RF remote control like myself. Let me know if it would help when I create an issue at https://github.com/ralph-irving/tcz-jivelite/issues. Also, for setting presets 0 to 9, it would be convenient if this could be done by long-pressing numerical keys 0 to 9 at the front side of the remote control. This is how presets 1 to 6 can be set on the front panel of the Squeezebox Boom. Is this something that could be implemented in a next release of tcz-jivelite without breaking existing functionality? [SlimDevices: Unix] [piCorePlayer] Switch off HDMI output when turning off player?
Hi all, I am using piCorePlayer 6.1.0 on a Raspberry Pi ZeroW. I installed Jivelite for displaying the "Now Playing" screen on a monitor or TV via HDMI, and control piCorePlayer via an Android App or via a RF (USB) remote control. It appears that the HDMI output of my ZeroW stays active when I turn off the player, also when the screensaver for the "player off state" set to Display Off (via Jivelite Settings => Screen => Screensavers => When off => Display Off). When I turn Off the player via the Android App or the Remote Control, the screen goes black, but the HDMI output stays active, meaning that also the attached monitor stays turned on. In fact I don't see a difference between screen saver settings "Blank Screen" and "Display Off". => Can anybody tell it is possible to switch off the HDMI output when turning off the player? If so, how? PS1: I know that turning off the HDMI output gives only a small reduction in current consumption of the Raspberry Pi. My main concern is the power consumption of the attached monitor. PS2: When I set HDMI power to "off" on the pCP Tweaks page, then the HDMI output is switched off at the end of the boot process, and the attached monitor goes into standby mode. This shows that the HDMI output of the ZeroW can be switched off, only it does not happen when turning off the player. | LMS 7.9.3 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC | CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112748 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

For people that use a simular RF/USB remote control to control piCorePlayer via Jivelite I have attached a zip file with following content: - Original InputToActionMap.lua file that comes with Jivelite - Modified InputToActionMap.lua that changes the function of a few buttons on the Remote Control, as discussed in my previous post - Excel sheet that shows the keycodes that are generated by the model T3 remote control - README.txt file that explains how to install the modified InputToActionMap.lua in piCorePlayer. This text file also contains some extra information about how to use evtest for detection of keycodes that are generated by a RF/USB remote control. Attachment => 31253 HOW TO INSTALL A CUSTOM INPUTTOACTIONMAP.LUA FILE FOR JIVELITE IN PICOREPLAYER Instructions below make use of Win32DiskImager, Putty and WinSCP on a Windows PC. Also it is assumed that Jivelite is installed in piCorePlayer, and that the Joggler skin is used. Lines that start with $ are commands that are entered on the Putty commandline. 1) First make a backup image of the piCorePlayer SD card using Win32DiskImager. To minimize the file size of the image select "Read Only Allocated Partitions" in Win32DiskImager. 2) Boot piCorePlayer and SSH into piCorePlayer using Putty: login as: tc password: piCore 3) Create folder temp in /home/tc $ mkdir temp 4) Create folder jive in /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath $ cd /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath $ sudo mkdir jive 5) Copy customized InputToActionMap.lua from Windows PC to piCoreplayer using WinSCP. Copy InputToActionMap.lua to folder /home/tc/temp that was created in step 3. 6) Copy InputToActionMap.lua from folder temp to folder /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive $ cd /home/tc/temp $ sudo cp InputToActionMap.lua ../.jivelite/userpath/jive 7) Quit Jivelite, by pressing key o at the back side of the T3 Remote Control. Jivelite should restart automatically and pick up the custom InputToActionMap.lua file 8) Check that the modified remote control keys work as expected. If the Jivelite GUI does not start, SSH into pCP and delete the custom InputToActionMap.lua from folder /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive as follows $ sudo rm /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive/InputToActionMap.lua 9) This is an optional step to reduce data that is saved to SD card in the next step. If the modified keys work as expected, SSH into piCorePlayer again and remove InputToActionMap.lua from folder temp: $ cd temp $ rm InputToActionMap.lua 10) Save the customized key map /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive/InputToActionMap.lua to SD card using your Remote Control: Jivelite HOME => Settings => piCorePlayer => Save Settings to SD Card This saves piCorePlayer settings to SD card, including all files under /home/tc. These settings are restored when booting PiCorePlayer 11) Reboot piCorePlayer by selecting "Reboot piCorePlayer" in the same piCorePlayer menu 12) Double check that the modified keys work as expected. For selecting a different input source for my Stereo, I need to long-press one of these function keys in IR mode. It happened a few times that I long-pressed one of these keys for selecting a different input source for my Stereo, assuming that the RC was operating in IR mode, while in reality the RC was operating in RF mode. By disabling the function keys in RF mode it is avoided that presets are accidentally changed. Apart from changing the behavior of the function keys I also modified the mapping of the special characters for setting presets 1 to 9. I did this because the order of special characters on this T3 Remote Control is different from the order that is used on standard PC/Laptop keyboards, refer to picture below: 31247 I changed the mapping of special characters to presets by selecting the special character that is physically located directly below the corresponding numerical key. Following changes were made to section charActionMappings.press in InputToActionMap.lua: Code: -- [")"] = "set_preset_0", ["!"] = "set_preset_1", ["^"] = "set_preset_2", ["#"] = "set_preset_3", ["$"] = "set_preset_4", ["%"] = "set_preset_5", ["&"] = "set_preset_6", ["*"] = "set_preset_7", ["("] = "set_preset_8", [")"] = "set_preset_9", With this mapping I can set presets 1 to 9 by means of the Remote Control. Only limitation is that preset 0 (corresponding with preset 10 in LMS) cannot be set with the RC. > If the KEY_PLAYPAUSE doesn't respond as KEY_PLAY or KEY_PAUSE you won't > likely be able to map it without modifying the SDL library and > recompiling it and jivelite. Not being a programmer, at this moment in time I consider modification of source code and recompilation of Jivelite a step to far. It is a pity that I can't pause/play audio with the PLAYPAUSE key at the front side of the RC, but I can still do this by using the SPACE bar at the back side. This is a limitation that I can live with. Thanks again Ralphy for your help! With the help of your instructions and the evtest program I found the keycodes of all buttons that are located at the front of the T3 RF remote control. The picture below shows the keycode for each button, as well as the input / event (event0, event1, event2) on which the keycode is received. 31226 ralphy wrote: > ... and 'this one' > (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?105117-lirc-rpi-gpio-IR-support-for-picoreplayer&p=883651&viewfull=1#post883651) > outlines how to modify the jivelite key mapping in picoreplayer. I am struggling with this step. After extracting the default InputToActionMap.lua file from /tce/optional/pcp-jivelite.tcz, I modified the content of this file. My plan was to change c.q. create following key mappings (keycode => wanted action): Code: [KEY_PLAYPAUSE] = "pause", [KEY_F3] = "go_search", [KEY_F4] = "disabled", [KEY_F5] = "disabled", [KEY_F6] = "disabled", [KEY_F7] = "disabled", As it happens to be, none of these 6 keycodes exist in the default InputToActionMap.lua file, even if jivelite does respond on pressing the F3 to F7 function keys by playing presets 3 to 7. It seems that (for example) key code [KEY_F3] is mapped on action "play_preset_3", even if code [KEY_F3] is not defined in InputToActionMap.lua. Since the 6 keycodes did not exist I added the code shown above to the end of section "keyActionMappings.press", and copied the modified InputToActionMap.lua to /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive/InputToActionMap.lua, as instructed in the linked post (btw I first created folder jive since this folder did not exist under /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath) : ralphy wrote: > Just copy the modified InputToActionMap.lua to > /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive/InputToActionMap.lua and "quit > jivelite". When it automatically restarts jivelite will use your version > instead of the one in the tcz package. => Can you )Ralphy' or anybody elsre tell me how to "quit jivelite"? Since I did not know how to do this, I rebooted pCP expecting that jivelite would pick up the modified InputToActionMap.lua. But the respons of jivelite on the 6 added keycodes had not changed, and when I used winscp to check the contents of folder /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath it appeared that folder jive with the modified InputToActionMap.lua file had dissapeared. It seems like folder /home/tc/.jivelite is recreated after reboot? In a second attempt, I again copied the modified InputToActionMap.lua to folder /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive, but before rebooting pCP I stored settings to SD card via the Jivelite GUI. In this case after rebooting pCP, at the end of the boot process the jivelite GUI did not appear on the screen. Maybe this is because jivelite does not recognize the 6 added keycodes? I noticed that in this case file /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive/InputToActionMap.lua was there. After deleting folder /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/jive the jivelite GUI did appear on the screen. Can anybody tell me what I should do to create the 6 custom keymappings mentioned above? +---+ |Filename: T3_RF_RC_keycodes_front_buttons.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31226| +---+ | LMS 7.9.3 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC | CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112709 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

[SlimDevices: Unix] [piCorePlayer] Customization of RF remote control keys?
Dear Squeezebox community, I have a few question about the possibility to customize RF remote control keys in piCorePlayer. But let me start with describing my pCP setup. I built a Squeezebox player using a Raspberry Pi ZeroW board in combination with piCorePlayer. I can control pCP with a smartphone control app (I am using Squeeze Ctrl on an Android phone), but also wanted to be able to control pCP using an RF remote control. To accomplish this I installed the Jivelite extension in pCP, and bought an RF remote control to control Jivelite. The Jivelite screen is displayed on my TV via the HDMI output of the RPi ZeroW. The RF remote control that I bought is a "model T3" device that is described here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=278842 . This remote is sold on Aliexpress for circa 10 US dollar, for example here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000671247122.html . It is actually a multi-function remote control that can be switched between RF mode (in this mode it can also work as a mouse) and IR mode. I am using the RF mode for remote control of piCorePlayer via Jivelite, and the IR mode for remote control of my Stereo set. The remote comes with an RF receiver in the form of an USB dongle, that is connected to the USB port of my RPi ZeroW using an USB to micro-USB adapter cable. After connecting the RF receiver to the USB port of the RPi ZeroW, RF remote control was working immediately (i.e. without installing LIRC or IR tools for Jivelite), and most keys at the front side of the remote have a function. So remote control is actually working quite well, but if possible I would like to change the function of a few keys. For example, with the existing key mapping, somehow I unintentially changed presets a few times. I think I can avoid this by removing c.q. changing the function of the 4 coloured buttons at the front side of the remote. Also I would like to change the behavior of the pause/play button, i.e. give it the same function as the space bar at the bottom side of the remote. Finally here are my questions: 1) Where in piCorePlayer is the mapping of RF remote control keys defined? Is it in piCore Linux or in Jivelite? 2) Does anybody know if it is possible to customize the key mapping? If so, how? 3) Is there a linux tool to detect the key code of RF remote control keys? I suppose that I first need to know the key code of a specific key before I can map the key on another action. Thanks in advance for your help. | LMS 7.9.3 | Squeezebox Boom | RPi0W + pCP 6.1.0 + HiFiBerry DAC | CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112709 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

FYI, I noticed that in the mean time bpa has updated his PlayWMA plugin to v1.1, see screenshot below. 30938 The updated plugin comes with an updated custom-convert.conf file that defines that ffmpeg is used for server side transcoding of WMA files to (for example) flac. With the updated plugin all WMA files that I have (WMA, WMA Lossless, WMA Pro) play fine. After restarting LMS there are no error messages anymore in the LMS log file, and all 3 WMA types are played back correctly with SqueezePlay on my Windows desktop PC. WMA is transcoded to flac. I noticed that in SqueezePlay I can now even navigate (i.e. jump forth and back) within the WMA track, which is something that does not work with WMA tracks that are transcoded on LMS Windows. For information: the PlayWMA plugin also has issues. After installing this plugin on LMS 7.9.3 running on Lubuntu 18.04, I cannot play any WMA file on a SqueezePlay software player that runs on my Windows desktop. PlayWMA makes use of mplayer. On the Lubuntu server, mplayer does play my WMA, WMA Lossles and WMA Pro test files when starting mplayer from the commandline. But transcoding using PlayWMA plugin on LMS does not work. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer | Issues with native playback of WMA Lossless and WMA Pro files
Thanks Paul for the info. FYI, native playback of WMA Lossless and WMA Pro files is not really important to me. Apart from the test files that I created I don't use these formats in my music collection. I would prefer however that future versions of piCorePlayer still support normal WMA 9.2 files, since even my old Squeezebox Boom plays this format natively. And ffmpeg seems to decode this format correctly, at least the ffmpeg libraries in the PCP repository. Just my opinion. I was thinking the same, but then it is not nice that improper operation of ffmpeg can result in a crash of pCP/squeezelite, such that a pCP reboot is required. Your response triggers two questions: 1) I wonder why playback of ALAC files on PCP requires installation of ffmpeg libraries. When LMS transcodes ALAC to FLAC, it uses faad to decode the ALAC file. Can't Squeezelite pCP also use faad for native playback of ALAC files? 2) You say that when support of WMA is dropped in future versions of pCP/squeezelite, it will still be possible to transcode WMA files with a version of ffmpeg that works with my WMA files. I assume that you are talking about transcoding in LMS on Linux (since transcoding using wmadec.exe + flac.exe on LMS Windows already works fine) ? Can you provide information (or maybe you have a link) on how to install ffmpeg in LMS Linux for transcoding of WMA files? [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer | Issues with native playback of WMA Lossless and WMA Pro files
Hi All, Since a week I have piCorePlayer running on a Raspberry Pi ZeroW, and am very pleased with it. I encountered a few issues however with native playback of WMA files (to be specific: WMA Lossless and WMA Pro files) that I want to report here. For native playback of ALAC and WMA files I installed the "FFMpeg libraries for Squeezelite" via the pCP web interface (pCP Main Page). After installation of the FFMpeg libs I performed some playback tests. For these tests I created WMA files with different WMA formats using Windows Media Player 12. The test results do not meet my expectations. Summary of the test results: 1) Native playback of ALAC and "normal" WMA files works fine. So far so good! 2) Native playback of the WMA Lossless file does not work. For some reason WMA Lossless is transcoded to 705 kbps FLAC by LMS. If I disable transcoding for WMA Lossless in LMS, pCP does not play the WMA Lossless file. 3) Native playback of the WMA Pro file starts OK, but after some time playback stops. It seems that squeezelite has crashed. After playback has stopped I cannot play any audio file anymore with pCP. A pCP reboot is required to get pCP working again (when disabling native WMA Pro playback in LMS, LMS correctly transcodes the WMA Pro File to FLAC, and then playback works fine). DETAILED INFORMATION BELOW Software versions used are as follows: PLAYER: piCorePlayer 6.1.0 piCore v10.3pCP Squeezelite v1.9.7-1256-pCP FFMpeg libraries that come with pCP 6.1.0 SERVER: LMS 7.9.3 - 1591161343 @ Thu Jun 4 04:07:50 WEDT 2020, running on a Windows 7 64-bit system. Also tested with LMS running on Lubuntu 18.04 64-bit. LMS Linux does not do transcoding from WMA to a different audio format, meaning that only "normal" WMA files can be played back on my pCP player when running LMS on a Linux system. For completeness here are links to the WMA test files that I used for my playback tests. Each file is the same music track with length of 1:32 (1 min 32 secs). 1) The normal WMA 9.2 file that is played back fine by pCP can be downloade here => 'Prelude WMA.wma' (https://www.dropbox.com/s/gmp3sl6g2yxlcay/Prelude%20WMA.wma?dl=0) 2) The WMA 9.2 Lossless file that is not natively played back by PCP can be downloaded here => 'Prelude WMA Lossless.wma' (https://www.dropbox.com/s/gxuwngwi615bva6/Prelude%20WMA%20Lossless.wma?dl=0) 3) The WMA 10 Pro file that makes pCP/Squeezelite crash can be downloaded here => 'Prelude WMA Pro.wma' (https://www.dropbox.com/s/qznf7hgjgqzvzd0/Prelude%20WMA%20Pro.wma?dl=0). When natively playing back this file, my pCP 6.1.0 player always crashes at 1:18. Does anybody have an idea why my pCP 6.1.0 player does not play back my WMA Lossless file natively? And more important, why pCP crashes when natively playing the WMA Pro file? I can provide more information on request. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SqueezePlay on Linux does not connect to Logitech Media Server
With the help of bpa and BosseJ, we have now the following *3 solutions for the Squeezeplay connection problem* on Linux. The solutions assume that you use Ubuntu / Lubuntu / Xubuntu with the ufw firewall: - SOLUTION 1: DISABLE LINUX FIREWALL > sudo ufw disable This solves the connection problem, but compromises the security of your Linux system. For this reason it is better to use method 2 or method 3 SOLUTION 2: ENTER IP ADDRESS OF LMS SERVER MANUALLY IN SQUEEZEPLAY After initial install of Sqeezeplay, you temporarily need to disable the firewall, otherwise the Squeezeplay settings menu will not be availabe: > sudo ufw disable Then start Squeezeplay, and manually enter the IP address of the LMS server on your home network: Squeezeplay >Settings > Advanced > Networking > Remote Libraries > Add New Library => Enter IP address After you have tested that Squeezeplay can connect to the LMS server, you can enable the firewall again: > sudo ufw enable SOLUTION 3: DEFINE AN APPLICATION BASED RULE FOR SQUEEZEPLAY IN LINUX FIREWALL Open an xterminal in folder /etc/ufw/applications.d Create a text file called jive (replace leafpad with the text editor that you use): > sudo leafpad jive Copy the following text to text file jive: Code: [jive] title=Squeezeplay description=SqueezePlay is a Logitech Media Server software player that can play music and internet radio streams on your personal computer. ports=1024:65535/udp The application rule allows Squeezeplay to receive udp packets on any port between 1024 and 65535 Save the text file, and load the application rule that you just created in the firewall: > sudo ufw app update jive > sudo ufw allow jive Now start Squeezeplay, and check that it can connect to the LMS server. *Closing notes*: Advantage of method 3 over method 2 is that Squeezeplay will automatically detect the LMS server on the network. So no problem when the IP adress of the LMS server is changed. After defining the application rule for Squeezeplay (=jive) in ufw, "sudo ufw status verbose" shows the following: Code: Status: active Logging: on (low) Default: deny (incoming), allow (outgoing), disabled (routed) New profiles: skip To Action From -- -- 1024:65535/udp (jive) ALLOW INAnywhere 1024:65535/udp (jive (v6)) ALLOW INAnywhere (v6) A screenshot of Squeezeplay running on my Lubuntu system is shown below. 26164 Regards, CJS +---+ |Filename: Squeezeplay_screenshot.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=26164| +---+ CJS's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109829 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

After setting the IP address of the LMS server in Squeezeplay, Squeezeplay can connect to LMS with firewall enabled. Firewall rules for ports 3843 and 9000 can be removed. Only caveat is that after a fresh install of Squeezeplay, you will need to temporarily disable the firewall (sudo ufw disable), otherwise the Squeezeplay Home menu is not available such that the Settings menu can not be entered. I am now thinking about defining a rule in ufw that allows incoming traffic on all ports for Squeezeplay, which is shown as process "jive" in the Lubuntu process monitor. When this works I will post my final solution in this thread. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SqueezePlay on Linux does not connect to Logitech Media Server
Thanks for the suggestions. After entering firewall rules for ports 3483 and 9000 and enabling ufw, command Code: sudo ufw status verbose shows the following: Code: Status: active Logging: on (low) Default: deny (incoming), allow (outgoing), disabled (routed) New profiles: skip To Action From -- -- 3483/udp ALLOW INAnywhere 3483/tcp ALLOW INAnywhere 9000/tcp ALLOW INAnywhere 3483/udp (v6) ALLOW INAnywhere (v6) 3483/tcp (v6) ALLOW INAnywhere (v6) 9000/tcp (v6) ALLOW INAnywhere (v6) Outgoing traffic is allowed by default, and the firewall rules are supposed to allow incoming traffic on ports 3483 (udp and tcp) and 9000 (tcp). However Squeezeplay still can't connect to the LMS server. After starting Squeezeplay, the firewall log file /var/log/ufw.log shows the following (MAC address disguised for privacy reasons): Code: Dec 3 21:56:01 ATHLON5050 kernel: [ 2594.313035] [UFW BLOCK] IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:00 SRC=192.168.0.101 DST=192.168.0.100 LEN=105 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=23868 PROTO=UDP SPT=3483 DPT=40162 LEN=85 192.168.0.101 is the ip address of the Windows 7 machine that runs LMS 192.168.0.100 is the ip address of the Lubuntu machine that runs Squeezeplay Note [UFW BLOCK] in the ufw.log file. Even though incoming traffic on port 3483 is supposed to be allowed by the firewall rule, UFW still blocks UDP traffic on this port. The result is that Squeezeplay can't connect to the LMS server. After disabling ufw everything works fine again. Suggestions on how to solve this firewall problem are welcome. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SqueezePlay on Linux does not connect to Logitech Media Server
FYI, I figured out what the problem was. It appears that a firewall called ufw was enabled on my Lubuntu system, that blocked incoming traffic on ports 3483 and 9000 that are used by Logitech Media Server. I should have thought of that. To allow communication between SqueezePlay and LMS, I needed to open ports 3483 and 9000 on the firewall, by means of the following 2 commands: sudo ufw allow 3483 sudo ufw allow 9000 After opening ports 3483 and 9000 on my Lubuntu system, SqueezePlay Linux works fine. [SlimDevices: Unix] SqueezePlay on Linux does not connect to Logitech Media Server
Hi all, I am trying to get SqueezePlay on Linux (Lubuntu) working on my home network. For an unknown reason SqueezePlay Linux does not connect to LMS (Logitech Media Server) that is running on a Windows PC in the same network. I also installed SqueezePlay on a Windows PC in the same network, and in this case everything works fine. Details on my configuration: Linux PC running Lubuntu 16.04.5 32-bit Player: squeezeplay-pulse-7.8.0-1116-i386.tgz, downloaded from the LMS linux clients page on SourceForge (since this is my first post I am not allowed to insert an URL ...) Server: LMS 7.7.6, running on Windows 7 64-bit I can access the LMS web interface with Firefox on my Lubuntu system by entering the IP adress of the LMS server + port number 9000 in Firefox. The squeezeplay tarball is extracted to folder /opt/squeezeplay on my Lubuntu system, as instructed on the LMS linux clients page on SourceForge. After starting squeezeplay.sh in folder /opt/squeezeplay/bin, SqueezePlay starts up. After selecting the English language in the initial screen, Squeezeplay shows a Welcome screen that says "Let's get started by getting you connected to your network". After clicking Continue, for a second or so SqueezePlay shows "Connecting to mysqueezebox.com". I would have expected that SqueezePlay first tries to connect to LMS running on a Windows 7 system in my network. Maybe it does not see LMS and then tries to connect to mysqueezebox.com? Connecting to mysqueezebox.com does not work. Since I did not get a chance to enter username and password for mysqueezebox.com, I guess it is normal that SqueezePlay cannot connect to mysqeezebox.com. Finally I get following screen that says that says "Problem Connecting". After this final screen there is no possibility to enter the IP address of the LMS server manually. Can somebody help me with troubleshooting this connection problem with SqueezePlay on Linux?
