I haven't changed the web port (80), but the web GUI controls (along the
top of the pCP web page) don't work.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-10-15 Thread Furry

I have just upgraded my Qobuz subscription, to the new 'Studio' hi-res
streaming-only subscription.

All works fine except that, after playing hi-res stuff, playing
non-hi-res instead (and possibly a different hi-res rate) results in
silence until/unless I power pCP off and on again (rebooting is not
necessary).

It appears that the format/rate is not being changed. I don't know if
this is internal to the pCP, or due to some failure to communicate with
my PM7005 amp's DAC, connected via USB (are setup messages exchanged
with external USB DACs?).

Do I need to do some USB Audio tweaks to fix this? If so, which
settings?

I notice that, on the Tweaks page, in the USB Audio tweaks section, it's
stated: "The USB controller can have issues with external DACs. If set
to 0 the new FIQ_FSM driver is disabled and the old NOP FIQ is used."
But it also states: "This is needed for Emotiva XMC-1 DAC." Could this
also be necessary for my amp's DAC?

TIA.

I don't know if the ancient version had a GUI, but this version does.
Take a look at this in your browser, and set your DAC in "Audio Output

I have stored alsa settings, and backed them up, also set pCP to use
'Custom' settings, but it still defaults to maximum level for my PM7005,
after a power off.

Perhaps 'Custom' only works for the on-board RPi sound card?

Using the DAC in my PM7005 amplifier, alsamixer shows the default PCM
Playback level as maximum, 0.00dB, coloured red on the slider graphic.

I can, of course, adjust this downwards (all the way to -127dB), but I
don't hear any subjective difference in audio level. What, if anything,
is this actually adjusting?

Is maximum here actually a 'good thing' for a digital output?

Neither of these plugins cause LMS to appear as a renderer in an Android

No, I haven't done that so far; it worked before without doing that.

I had somehow missed the 'Configure' button, and didn't realise that
there was anything to configure. I found that the output device was
(still) set for the hifiberry card, so now I've set that to
"sysdefault:CARD=PM7005".

Until I got the device definition right (apparently), starting play on
the iPad would stop Shairport-sync, and I'd have to restart it, only for
it to stop again. The target would also intermittently disappear from
the iPad. Oddly, "hw:..." wouldn't work, whereas that's the form that
works for Waveinput. I haven't set anything in the output control
field, because I don't know what I would put there.

Anyway, it's working now (regardless of whether pCP is powered up or
down in LMS), but I'm not getting anything appearing on the pCP screen,
whereas I saw artwork before.

My iPad has played via Shairport on pCP in the past, however it's not
working now.

Shairport is running on pCP, iPad 'thinks' it is playing towards the
pCP, which shows no sign of 'noticing'. I'm using LMS on pCP.

Things I have changed since this did work are: the pCP output to the DAC
in my PM7005 amplifier, from hifiberry digi coax, to RPi USB; I have
installed Waveinput.

I have tried rebooting the pCP and the iPad.

Any ideas?

I am using a Flirc USB IR receiver gen 1.

It works fine except for the next and previous track buttons (<< and

using a Touch remote control.

Can I fix this in a conf file somewhere, or do I need to buy a gen 2?
Would using a gen 2 fix this? Are there any other reasons why a gen 2
would be better?

Also, the configuration software now dowloadable from the Flirc site
won't work with gen 1, and I can't find the software for gen 1 (although
I'm not sure that having that would actually help).

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 4.0.0

2018-09-14 Thread Furry

I have the piCorePlayer and LMS running on the same RPi (3).

I put my music library on a USB flash drive, plugged into the RPi, and
pointed the piCorePlayer's LMS at that.

Playback only on one player is fine, but when attempting to play a
24-bit/44.1kHz FLAC track on the piCorePlayer and then sync a SB Radio
to that, the playback becomes intermittent, sometimes stopping for a few
seconds on the pCP, other times on the Radio. As though a buffering
problem.

By elimination, I found that it wasn't due to the network, whether WiFi
or wired to the RPi (but always WiFi to the Radio); using another LMS on
a Windows server, with the music library on a disk on that server,
sync'd playback is fine (and using WiFi for RPi and Radio).

The problem therefore appears to be with using the USB flash for my
library on the RPi. But this is supposed to have a read speed of
130MB/s.

What might the problem be? What can I do about it? (to be able to use
the USB flash on the RPi, and sync'd players).

TIA.

True; I didn't think about that when I (successfully) tried piCore with
192k; I'd sort of forgotten that I'd installed EDO so that the Touch can
do 192k.

I was using the DAC in my Marantz via USB, but found that piCoreplayer
needed restarting each time after the Marantz switched itself off, if
not used for half an hour.

So, I decided to add the Hifiberry Digi+ so that I could use the coax
connection instead, as I do for my SBT.

If this seems a bit 'unnecessary', then consider that actually I don't
even need another squeezebox at all, but just wanted to make a potential
direct replacement for the SBT (which, as I've said, I connect to the
amp via coax), for the heck of it / on the off-chance that the SBT dies.
And the Digi+ is only about 30 quid.

I have just assembled a RPi + FLIRC + RPi 7" display + Hifiberry Digi+,
and am using the 2nd method. I've ordered a short (15cm) cable for
this.

The Digi+ prevents use of the 3rd method, and the 1st method seems
overkill.

Although I'm not using a 2A PSU; the total current being drawn from the
USB supply is about 0.95A.

Thanks.

I discovered that, if I install v1.2.6 GUI, use flirc_util, and select
the 'dfu' command, then 'default' firmware is installed into the FLIRC -
although I'm still confused, because it also refers to '2.6' (rather
than 1.2.6); some confusion (at least on my part) between GUI version
and firmware version (and see my post above).

Anyway, I was then able to install the .cfg, and the FLIRC works well
now with my Squeezebox IR remote.

Thanks again!

I'm awaiting delivery of a FLIRC USB dongle.

The latest GUI version downloadable from the FLIRC site is v1.3.7.

Do I understand correctly that the firmware comes 'with' the GUI, but
that it's not possible to use the GUI to downgrade the firmware?

I understand that I can install other versions of GUI/firmware, and need
v1.2.6 to use Ralphy's config (I've already downloaded this, ready).

But, if the GUI won't let me downgrade the firmware in my new FLIRC,
then how do I use the command line utility you refer to above? (I assume
this is 'flirc-util' within the install folder for the GUI).

The 'upgrade' command of flirc_util seems to expect a .bin file - where
would I obtain this? (there doesn't appear to be one in the GUI install
folders, and the location for FLIRC firmwares above just contains .exe
(GUI?)).

Yes, I thought so, but wanted to check, just in case - because I would

So, with a Sublime subscription, you can stream stuff from Qobuz in HD

After much re-installing, Dos-fsck -ing (a 'dirty bit' was found, often,
apparently), and rebooting, I do now have it running on WiFi. I don't
know why it wouldn't run before, and I did look in the diagnostics but
didn't see anything untoward. It just seemed 'reluctant' to work with
WiFi. I'll see how it goes.

Is this one of those issues?:

If I pause playing, and then return some time later and press play, no
audio is heard, even though SqueezePlay indicates playing is happening.
A restart via the GUI restores audio. Is the USB-DAC connection somehow
being dropped when not in active streaming use?

Otherwise, the sound is excellent, via the DAC in the PM7005 so, if this
were my primary player (i.e. if I didn't have a Touch, connected to the
PM7005 via coax), I would be reluctant to add a USB-DAC board.

2015-09-05 Thread Furry

I hadn't really paid much attention to this (Pi as a squeeze player),
until I happened to see another thread where it was recommended as a
replacement player (not that I need one yet, fortunately).

I have a RPi B+, so decided to give it a go; I downloaded piCoreplayer,
dropped it onto SD, plugged RPi into power and network and browsed to to
the GUI (RPi/piCoreplayer obtained IP address from DHCP). I then
connected RPi to my Marantz PM7005 (DAC built in), and found the player
in the GUI squeezelite output settings. After a restart, I used
SqueezePlay running on laptop to control the new player.

Wow, I'm impressed; after about 10 minutes I have another squeezeplayer
for about £20 that just works, and works well.

I don't know yet how many bits it's sending (or can send) to the Marantz
at what rate yet; I guess I'll found out shortly.
