Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Vortexbox ( Fedora release 14 (Laughlin))

2011-03-26 Thread chn68b

Can someone tell me what the password is for the squeezeboxserver uid?

I'm trying to ssh into this now as user squeezeboxserver to see if I
can still ping internet addresses.

[SlimDevices: Unix] Vortexbox ( Fedora release 14 (Laughlin))

2011-03-25 Thread chn68b

I have vortexbox running on a home server and have no problems playing
my own music, however I'm unable to get the server to access the
outside world.

On checking the logs I get Couldn't resolve IP address for:
www.mysqueezebox.com

I can ssh into the vortexbox server and ping www.mysqueezebox.com

I've set the vortexbox with various configurations to resolve this,
believing that its a DNS issue. I've set it with static IP using the
gateway address as the DNS, Static with blank DNS and also DHCP.
Rebooting the server each time. Neither configuration has worked.

I should also apparently be able to get into the box via \\vortexbox
however this doesn't work and I can only access it via the ip address.

Does anyone have anything to recommend?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Vortexbox or Windows Home Server

2011-03-18 Thread chn68b

I'm about to take delivery of a HP server and wonder what I should put
on it.

This will be used for the squeezebox and for serving videos and photos
around the home network to XBMC and an Andriod device. Will Vortexbox
be suitable for this or would Windows Home Server do the job better?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Album Art and Linux

2010-07-13 Thread chn68b

I'm building a pc for a mate to run his Squeezebox Duet from and he only
wants to browse the net and read email from it other than this, so I'm
thinking, for the purposes of speed and viruses (his kids keep
installing all sorts of rubbish), Ubuntu may be a good idea.

I haven't dabbled with it (Ubuntu) for ages as I built a HTPC using
Windows 7 (due to a video relay issue with the video card in Ubuntu)
and haven't looked back. His PC is going to be far less specced than
mine, his pc will be a 2.8mhz processor and 1Gb of ram.

I think it'll be good for everything, however, it must update Album art
easily. This is extremely important to him. At the moment he's using
Itunes on an XP machine and its all working well, just painfully slow
doing anything and the kids...

Is there a quick an easy way to get Album art on a Ubuntu based machine
now, as I seem to remember it being a bit hit and miss?

[SlimDevices: Unix] Freespace not increasing????

2010-01-19 Thread chn68b

Hi

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and I'm trying to copy some music onto an
external drive but its unable to do so as there's not enough
spacewell it was on 2.7Gb of freespace so I've just deleted a load
of old stuff (some 7Gb) and the bloody thing is still telling me there's
only 2.7Gb free!

I've unmounted it and remounted, rebooted, cleared the trash.

Any idea whats going on?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SCC 7.4.1 can't see my USB drives?

2009-12-13 Thread chn68b

this is a real pain

I can mount the drive, but every time I reboot, it cannot see the
library unless I go into the library settings, point it to another
location (on the mounted drive as it still see all the other folders),
hit clear library and scan, then abort and point back to the music
folder and rescan all over again.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SCC 7.4.1 can't see my USB drives?

2009-11-28 Thread chn68b

to get this to work so far I've done this:

into terminal then:

sudo fdisk-l

this returned the drive info I needed, my usb drive being sdc1, then
I needed to find the uid details for the user squeezeboxserver which
is the default user id for the program, to do this do the following:

id squeezeboxerver

this returned a uid of 113 and a gid of 65534 (needed for squeezecenter
to have permission to see it)

I unmounted the drive from the desktop then back into terminal

sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /media/external -o
uid=113,gid=65534,utf8,dmask=027,fmask=137

Reopened squeezebox and had to point it to a new location initially
(don't know why) started a scan on the new folder (with no music in it)
aborted the scan and then pointed it back to the usb drive and it worked
fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] SCC 7.4.1 can't see my USB drives?

2009-11-24 Thread chn68b

I think that theres a problem with automounting and squeezecenter.

I added this to my fstab when I was having the same problem:

/dev/sdc1/mnt/media/music vfat
users,umask=1000,rw,noauto 0 0

where the plural users gives read/write access to all users and it
disables the automount of the USB drive. Probably not secure, but I use
the drive for watching movies as well and if I set it to mount using the
squeezeboxserver user id it stopped my xbmc accessing the drive as well.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] FreeNas / Slimnas probs

2009-11-07 Thread chn68b

Hi Mike

Just sorted this by downloading the latest Freenas version. Followed
your instructions and it then worked fine.

I've got slimnas and squeezecentre installed to the dom on the T5700
and it seems to be running very quickly.

Many thanks

[SlimDevices: Unix] Where is my usb drive?

2009-10-26 Thread chn68b

Hi

Just installed ubuntu 8.10 and its all up and running, downloaded and
installed squeezebox server and just going through the setup...when it
asks for the music folder I cannot for the life of me find my USB drive
in the list and not sure what to put into the path?

Its mounted and shows on the desktop as FREECOM HDD and the folder I
want is simply named music. The Mount Point listed in the volume tab for
the usb drive is /media/FREECOM HDD which doesn't seem to work, so I'm
assuming the path should be /media/FREECOM HDD/music, but in the
squeezebox list media only shows the 2 cdrom drives. I can access the
drive fine from the deskop and places.

Any ideas?
