Still the same. Just one string quartet album in the logs.
The only thing I can think of is the Additional Browse Mode Setting. But
all the quartets are tagged as "Chamber Music" and they all have
"Miaskovsky, Nikolai" as the artist.

I removed the password line from server.prefs, and can log in with a
username, and no password. But every time I try to use the web interface
to enter a password, and restart LMS, I can no longer log in.

I guess I need to make a complicated username and no password.

[SlimDevices: Unix] Cannot enter my password

2018-07-03 Thread jarome

I changed my LMS on LEAP 15 to require a password. But the password box
disappears as soon as I try to enter it! How do I fix this, or eliminate
the password without the management console (which is inaccessible)?

The only trick thing is that the LMS changed its startup script to rely
upon the file in /etc. Once I realized this, it installed and ran
easily.

Download the rpm:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.9/sc/2c1e5440bd00d5bcfa24f6b998c34f75550b76a1/logitechmediaserver-7.9.2-0.1.1527861596.noarch.rpm

Install the rpm as root: rpm -ivh
logitechmediaserver-7.9.2-0.1.1527861596.noarch.rpm

As root: touch etc/SuSE-release

You also need to open ports in the firewall (which seems to be off by
default). Use yast2

As root: yast2 &

Turn on the firewall's public zone (the default) ands open ports 9000
and 3483 for tcp and (I think) UDP

point your browser to http://localhost:9000 and follow the
instructions.

Congrats on picking the best, easiest to administer Linux distro.

[SlimDevices: Unix] Server disconnects when WAN is down

2017-06-24 Thread jarome

Yesterday, Comcast was dead. I was trying to play my own music, which is
on my Linux LEAP 42.2 server, on my Transporters. Both Transporters are
connected via hard-wired Ethernet to my server. But the Transporters
lose connection to my Squeezeboxserver for 5-second periods. When it
comes back, I must press Pause twice. Then it is good for 2-5 minutes,
and dies again.
What can be causing this, and how can I fix it?

Yes, it said in the thread that you must use the nightlies.
As for the error messages, the LANG error is always there. The others
look as if you did not specify a directory for videos and pictures. But
if you do not have any (like me) ignore this.

To be better prepared for the coming update to opensuse 12.3 I tried to
install LMS7.8 on opensuse 12.3RC2. And thanks to all the work that has
been done in the thread I got it working! Many thanks to all of you,
especially vaved for the good summary (post #54).Here is what I did
starting from a clean install (a few details are different from vaved's
description, some things are copy and paste):1) Add packages: gcc, make,
patch, zlib-devel, freetype2-devel2) Install LMS7.83) Get the LMS7.8
CPAN packages: svn co
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.8/trunk/vendor/CPAN/4) Get
Class-XSAccessor-1.16.tar.gz and YAML-LibYAML-0.38.tar.gz from
www.cpan.org5) Put these two files in the directory of the LMS7.8 CPAN
packages6) Get the modified buildme.sh from cajus (see post #29)7) Since
opensuse 12.3RC2 uses Perl 5.16.2 and the version of Class-XSAccessor
has changed, the modified buildme.sh has to be modified further. The
path to the perl bin has to be /usr/bin/perl5.16.2, the version of
Class-XSAccessor has to be 1.168) Run the modified buildme.sh9) Copy
newly build CPAN modules: cp -a build/arch/5.16
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch10) Fix the Class::XSAccessor
issue. Edit /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/Class/XSAccessor.pm and
change the version line to 1.16 our $VERSION = '1.16';11) Patch
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Slim/Control/Request.pm. Attention! The last
line contains two consecutive single quotes, not a double quote!# get a
parameter by namesub getParam {- return $_[0]-{'_params'}-{ $_[1] };+
my $r = $_[0]-{'_params'}-{ $_[1] };+ return ($r ne '') ? $r :
undef;}12) As always with opensuse set the following link:ln -s
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Slim/ /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.16/Slim13)
Open ports as necessary, i.e. TCP 9000, UDP/TCP 348314) Stop and restart
LMS service:systemctl stop logitechmediaserver.servicesystemctl start
logitechmediaserver.service

I installed a 12.3 OpenSUSE inside Parallels on my Mac, but it is not

Incidentally, updating my 12.2 distro inside of Parallels trashed it,

12.3. But I need Squeezeboxserver to work. The perl version major number
seems to be the same (5.16.2). Is anyone else working on this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] opensuse 12.2 fails to run logitechmediaserver-7.8.0-0.1.1347896053

2012-10-26 Thread jarome

The key is to modify the buildme.sh script. I was unsuccessful.

Prerequisites:

1. install nasm using zipper or yast2

2. install any missing perl modules using cpan
3. install the C development tools and perl
4. I recommend a nice GUI text editor such as edit (from the OpenSUSE
build service)

I did everything in my download directory as root (su), or you can use
sudo

Download the version
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.8/sc/520ec9c/logitechmediaserver-7.8.0-1350572233.tgz
Untar it
#tar -xvf logitechmediaserver-7.8.0-1350572233.tgz

The above distribution contains a CPAN/arch directory structure
organized by version and platform that should let you see where to put
your own built binaries. To get the vendor directory you need to check
it out with Subversion:

svn co http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.8/trunk/vendor/CPANNow we
need to build everything for perl 5.16.0

But the buildme.sh script in the CPAN directory will not work as given
since perl is just /usr/bin/perl. I modified the 5.12 part to be:
---
# Path to Perl 5.16if [ -x /usr/bin/perl ]; then
PERL_516=/usr/bin/perl
elif [ -x /usr/local/bin/perl5.12.4 ]; then
PERL_512=/usr/local/bin/perl5.12.4
elif [ -x /usr/local/bin/perl5.12.4 ]; then # Also FreeBSD 8.2
PERL_512=/usr/local/bin/perl5.12.4
elif [ -x $HOME/perl5/perlbrew/perls/perl-5.12.4/bin/perl5.12.4 ];
then
PERL_512=$HOME/perl5/perlbrew/perls/perl-5.12.4/bin/perl5.12.4
elif [ -x /usr/bin/perl5.12 ]; then
# OSX Lion uses this path
PERL_516=/usr/bin/perl
fi

if [ $PERL_516 ]; then
echo Building with Perl 5.16 at $PERL_516
fi

# Install dir for 5.16

BASE_516=$BUILD/5.16--Then do search and replace to change
all 512 to 516 and 5.12 to 5.16

I did not get past running the script, which took a long time, and still
failed.

If you get past this, Andy says:

After running buildme.sh the same arch directory structure is created
and just needs to be copied over to the CPAN directory of the above
distribution.

Maybe someone else can figure this out.

The issue is not that the newer perl will not work, it is that the
Squeezebox code has the older version hard wired into it, so you have to
fool it by making the links as I described (updated for your installed
version of perl). At least that has always worked in the past--I have
not yet upgraded to 12.2.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] 7.5.5 update fails on OpenSuse 11.4

2011-07-16 Thread jarome

The problem is that buildme.sh wipes out any changes you make. So here
is what must be done to get it to work.
1. Run the script once, which will make all the files.
2. In mysql-5.1.37/configure on line 18628, get rid of the abi_check
definition:

# Enable the abi_check rule only if gcc is available

if test $GCC != yes || expr $CC : .*icc.*
then
ABI_CHECK=
else
ABI_CHECK=
fi

3. in buildme.sh line 426, comment out the tar file extraction:
#tar jxvf mysql-5.1.37.tar.bz2

Then buildme.sh will work. Not yet sure whether that fixes the server.
About to try.

The mysql file should not have this abi test in it. It is no needed and
causes grief for users. Andy needs to get it modified so its configure
file get rid of this part of the build.
And it needs to be in the release file, not in a nightly build.

It goes automatically where your other perl modules are. You need to be

Andy,

It is time to dump perl for these compatibility reasons. The software
should all be done in Java. It would be faster too. I could understand
it and help also.

In the old days, the Slimserver distribution always had a Source
directory in which one could build everything. That always worked.
Where did it go?

And you did not tell me how to fix my installation to use your GD.

Thanks,

[SlimDevices: Unix] lose connection to the server

2011-06-15 Thread jarome

Ever since the last two server upgrades, I intermittently lose
connection to my server:
Version: 7.5.4 - r32171 @ Thu Apr 14 10:15:57 MDT 2011
Hostname: jarfx
Server IP Address: 192.168.1.13
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: SuSE - EN - utf8
Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
Perl Version: 5.12.3 - x86_64-linux-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.1.53
Total Players Recognized: 5

For example, on my squeezebox in the bedroom, it loses the connection
withy just my weather-time screensaver running. One might say this is
the wireless connection, but I am also watching (very successfully)
Netflix at the same location. And, things also stop when I am connected
by ethernet from my Mac to my Linux server using SoftSqueeze. Music just
stops for up to a minute.
Top reveals nothing taking up all the cpu on the server.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Won't start in OpenSUSE 11.3

So I upgraded to 11.4. squeezeboxserver-7.5.3-1.noarch.rpm was working
on 11.3.
Just to be sure I uninstalled it and installed it again.

The perl link must be changed (it was 5.12.1 before):
ln -s /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Slim/
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.12.3/Slim

I think it is working now.

But it should not start indexing things until the user has had a chance
to, for example tell it to not use iTunes, and to treat multiple discs
as a single album.

My fingers are crossed.

+ Setting up the firewall to masquerade the internal 192.168.x.0/24

### How is this done?

+ Explicitly setting *Custom rules* on the firewall to allow ports 3483

So, do your devices discover your server?

Thanks for that critical piece of the puzzle.

I always do insserv on the things in /etc/init.d, and link them to an
rc in /usr/sbin, so I can control them from the command line via
sudo or root.

I also had to install Inotify2 using
cpan -i Linux::Inotify2
to get the nice autorescan plugin to work (add
http://www.hickinbottom.com/sc-plugins/repo.xml to your sources at the
bottom).

And I also had to install LAME to get all the audio conversions in the
server.

So the question is what caused this to break? Was llvm-gcc installed
in SUSE 11.2? Did the links change? Should we file a bug with SUSE (for
breaking things)?

Still, as in 11.2, NONE of my Squeezeboxes or Controller can see my SUSE
server. I have to manually enter the server ip address, which is a real
pain, and is especially hard to find in Controller.

My Mac server is visible right away.

When I complained on 11.2, people said it was a firewall setting, but I
think I have it set properly. It was an issue of allowing broadcasts
through.

Any ideas?
